The seafood platter for two is a must. It’s $ 99.00 and has everything. I’ve also had the Asian inspired cod wrapped in banana leaf with spices(not too spicy). It’s good, but did not knock my socks off. The lamb is nicely done as is the shaved beef sandwich. I enjoy the vegetables. They are cooked to perfection. The rice was bland and a bit chewy. You can share the desserts because they are huge. I liked the apple cake with ice cream. Wines start out at $ 47.00 per bottle. Half price on Mondays. Our eager server was a bit pushy a first until she realized we were going to take our time. Then she paced herself perfectly. I prefer to eat in the lounge. It’s not noisy and seems like you have a bit more room between tables.

We came here looking for a good steak and it happened to be the buck a shuck night as well for oysters! We sat down in the lounge which has some good background music playing but it’s not overpowering at all. You can still clearly hear the people at your table and have a good conversation without yelling. We ordered a dozen oysters and they were quite good. I’m not a huge oyster fan but these were quite tasty. The steaks we had were amazing. My New York strip was a perfect pink all the way through. Amazing flavour. If you want to go more formal as well they have their dining room that is much more dressy then the lounge side(I was still in a suit jacket but jeans instead of dress pants and a tie) Awesome experience. Definitely coming back.

Went to vons for dinner and watched the hockey game. Great little place to eat and catch the game. They have half price appys during the game too which was a nice surprise. We ended up ordering 13 out of 15 items off the apps menu and had rib eye steaks as well. Left stuffed and the bill with 20 percent tip was still under 200 with bevies for two. the oysters were tasty the steak was okay but could have been better but overall was a good dining experience. Service was great the girl was very attentive and nice. If I lived closer I’d come more often and they have only one location. They also pay your parking tab with Impark as well. Now only if the Oilers can win the game it would have been a great night.

Just left after a great meal, there by myself and found the food great, had oysters as recommended and they were worth the price. I followed with the lamb and it was amazing. The service was adequate, she did her job well but didn’t hit my 20% threshold for exceptional service! I would recommend!

Last night we came to Von’s for the half priced appetizers during the Oilers game in the bar only. We ordered a ton of food! We started with the oysters, delicious! Once the game started we ordered almost a plate of every appetizer. It was all really really good. My favourite was the coconut shrimp(the one dish we ordered twice of) and this new food craze in the culinary world calls the charcuterie. Everyone needs to try this! It’s was so tasty and flavours just explode on your tastebuds. Too numerous to mention in detail just google this dish. Dessert was good. Service was excellent. And to nicely finish off the evening, the Oilers won 5 – 1!!!

A decent seafood restaraunt that’s aiming for upscale. Been several times over the years. It has been here for quite a while, which is a testiment unto itself. Certainly worthwhile if upper end seafood is what you are after.

Von’s is a 4.5 stars for me. In my opinion they easily serve the best steak in town. OMG, I love the filet mignon– so juicy and melt in your mouth. The garlic mashed potatoes are pretty good too. My main complaint is that they do not have béarnaise sauce; how can you not have béarnaise sauce at a steak house? Service is consistently good at Von’s every time. Our server yesterday was friendly and helpful. I really appreciated her suggestions for wine and oysters. It was my first time trying oysters, but she recommended a very nice mild one, and I found them delicious. I may be attempted to try some other varieties at their Buck a Shuck special hours. The dessert variety is very good, and it is a nice touch that they bring around a plate with the desserts available to your table to explain and help you choose. The cheesecake is always a hit for me, and the recent pumpkin bread pudding with ice cream is a must try. Only other thing that I wish could be changed at Von’s is the lighting in the dining room– too dark in my opinion.

After 3 years of living in Edmonton I finally made it Von’s and it was… pretty good. I wanted it to blow my doors off and it didn’t but I enjoyed it all the same. I went on a Thursday night with two girlfriends. It’s deffo a good ladies night out spot and an added bonus that Thursdays are martini night. I like dark, broody, modern look and feel to Von’s. I think my next trip will be to the lounge instead of the dining room. I like the idea of sitting at the bar doing a steady flow of martinis and oysters. We all had apps. My companions enjoyed coconut shrimp and oysters. The oysters were declared as some of the tastiest my friend had ever consumed. I had the crabshack oysters. 4 half she’ll oysters baked with crab and bacon and cheese and creamy sauce. They were too overwhelmed with bacon in my opinion. The oyster was all but drowned out. I also did not at all care for the fish being served on a bed of pink salt. It inevitably got all over the oysters and way over salted the whole bite. Presentation win, taste fail. We all went to have steaks, one blue cheese one Oscar and one Tbone. Steaks were good, we’ll cooked and the side were nice. A solid steak dinner. Nothing mind blowing. I definitely will return to Von’s. Again, likely for a visit to the lounge. I didn’t find much value in the full Monty dinner experience. But a great atmosphere, delicious drinks and excellent service is worth a second visit.

Made a rezo for 930. We show up and get seated in the sportsy lounge pumping ‘90s dance hits. We ask if we can move to a table in the restaurant for a chill dinner and they ask us if we’re only there for the«buck a shucks.» Weren’t aware of the«buck a shucks» so we say«No.» For whatever reason this seemed like the wrong answer, or at least not the easier answer to shut us down with. The hostess then tells us to wait and they’ll make us up a table in the dining room. We wait 5 minutes and watch a handful of staff debate what to do with us while glancing at their watches. Resto closes at 10 so we figure we’ve become the pain in the ass rezo keeping everyone from leaving work early on a Sunday night. Sorry about that. Five minutes later the hostess returns to tell us the dining room is closed. We’re hungry, so we accept we’re having our steak dinners in a lame sports bar /lounge. The young waitress comes up to our table, vocal frys us and we decide to go with a dozen of the buck a shucks we figured out were the«All Night Sunday» special. Waitress tells us the deal ended at 630. Chalkboard says«All Night Sunday» but we’re not looking for a fight so we say nothing. I order a rib eye rare, it shows up medium rare. First world problems. As far as steakhouses go, you’re better off at the Keg b/c at least the Keg isn’t pretending to be anything more than what it is. You want a real steak cooked by someone who actually gives a F, go somewhere else and pay the extra dough. On the upside, the bill was pretty cheap for a steak. This place is a wannabe player in a game it’s never played.

I’ve been to Von’s Steak House many times over the years for special events and private bookings but I’ve only had the pleasure of ordering off the menu once. I adore their yorkshire puddings with au jus(as that is what I had nearly every time I was there for a work function in the past). Overall their food quality is good and they are quite accommodating. While I was here for a family dinner, the servers were really understanding of the challenges that eating out with a 2 year old posed. The service was wonderful! It is quite certainly priced such that it is only a special treat type restaurant for me, however that’s worth having on occasion. I really loved my tomato salad — it was unlike any other salad I’ve yet had. The venison carpaccio was also really quite good. The desserts looked great during my last visit though I didn’t partake in any.

I have been here multiple times so I feel like I can write a fair review. Stay away when this place is busy! They cant handle it! The food is great though. Half price wine on Monday and 4:00 — 6:30 buck a shuck for oysters. Put those 2 together you have an awesome night. The Lounge is mostly uncomfortable chairs so try and score a booth. The waitress was really great at keeping my wine glass FULL kudos to her!

We met up with friends last night at Von’s for Buck a Shuck, the oysters that are only available in the lounge. And for me, it was a great experience from start to finish. Our waitress was super attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. She was there when you needed her and had some great suggestions for me when it came to picking oysters. They have a large selection of $ 1 oysters for Tuesdays, along with $ 2 and up. My only disappointment is that you have to order the $ 1 oysters 6 at a time, and 6 of the same kind. I would have ordered way more than I did if I could have picked different kinds to try. It’s hard to commit when you don’t know enough about them. But they did come with lots of different seasonings(lemon, wasabi cocktail sauce, hot sauces and horseradish) so I could try them all to see which was my favourite. Wasabi cocktail sauce for the win! i also had the caesar salad which was awesome — super creamy dressing(and a lot of it!), huge chunks of cheese and more. I really enjoyed it. The menu ranges in price from medium to high, depending on what you want. I would definitely go back for Tuesdays in the lounge from time to time. It’s a comfortable space with great service and fun food.

Great place that serves fresh oysters! I think they are the only ones who have buck-a-shuck which is amazing, with lots of oyster kinds and unlimited quantity during winter and spring, not so good during summer though due to red tide which is basically everywhere. Service is always very nice and prompt, good atmosphere. Just how it suppose to be in a real restaurant.

I’m updating my review a year later to reiterate how amazing this place is! Easily my favourite restaurant in town. The steak is cooked to perfection, the potatoes are soft and buttery, and the vegetables are crisp but cooked at the same time. YUM. I could probably die here. Ordered a bottle of the Artesan Zinfandel that paired really well with our steaks. I definitely recommend ordering this wine! My boyfriend let me finish the majority of the whole bottle because it was so delicious. What a great guy eh? Thanks Von’s for another delicious night! Honestly 10⁄10. Fantastic food and service.

Been here a couple of times and both visits were similar. Sat in the lounge, which does not feel too unlike restaurant sitting. Food was good, had the rack of lamb, though kind of wished I ordered the prime rib like everyone else at the table. A couple of them really liking the horseradish. Service was good. Basically what I expected, which is my feeling about the entire visit. It meets expectations, but did not surprise in any particular way. In general, partially because of its location, it is not a place that I would volunteer when choosing a place, but if someone else says let’s go here, I would happily go along. One note, it was a Monday when we visited and a bottle of wine was half price, believe that is a regular deal.

Yes, it has been quite a while again to visit Von’s…and am very glad I/we did. In honesty, I would like to have been able to give Von’s a 4.5. This time around, we went on Dec. 26th, my companion’s birthday. Yeah, it is a day where many places are closed however am SO glad Von’s was open so we could celebrate his birthday. On the 26th, the restaurant was not full at all… there were 4 tables occupied, but in truth, I didn’t mind as it was a nice evening and it was as though we had the place to ourselves. Our waiter was really attentive and chatted with us a few moments as he knew that there was a birthday and happily remarked that they don’t «sing»(hurrah!) and for my companion to not worry ;-) When we looked at the menu we decided straightaway on the Seafood Platter which serves two. It was DELICIOUS… the crab legs were wonderful, as were the shrimp and scallops. The mussels were good too and had a bit of a spicy bit. There were also two small lobster tails nicely plated and steam sauted vegetables. It was the perfect amount for the two of us – we enjoyed the bread beforehand with the horseradish butter(REALLY good and the bread too :-)). To start, I had the Borscht Soup which I had never had and really enjoyed. It was not creamy(though served with sour cream and chives which our waiter asked if that was okay), rather a nice broth with chopped red beets which were firm and not mushy. My companion had the house salad which he enjoyed. For dessert, I didn’t ask for anything special as I wanted my companion to choose what he wanted. He chose the Banana Crème Brulee’ which he really enjoyed… it was a nice serving and came with a celebratory sparkler :-) Our waiter was nice enough to take our picture at that point. I have the bread pudding. It was good, however, it isn’t as good as I remember the one at Jack’s Grill(hence the 4.5). I found out that the kitchen chef and staff had changed at Von’s not this past summer, but two summers ago(in fact, I recall at the Unilocal Elite Event at Taste of Edmonton, the new chef was there. I am SO glad :-) I would recommend Von’s with no hesitation :-) Hope to return in the summer to sample the summer menu :-)

The good: Oyster bar — Hard to find oysters on the prairies, and these were good. The server was fantastic, the service in the bar is good, and the drink selection is good. The bad: Restaurant menu — while there is a lot of variety, and interesting sounding items(venison carpaccio for example), there seems to be a lack of a chef to prepare the food. We ordered 6 appetizers, and not one of them was even ok. For example, «Mushrooms Neptune» = condensed mushroom soup with cheese. The venison carpaccio were slices of dried meat on top of dried up Yorkshire pudding. Really not good at all. Would go back for«Buck a Shuck» in the bar. Wouldn’t bother with the rest of the food menu.

All you can eat oysters!!! Yum. Enough said. Well for a buck a shuck. So its pretty close. Steak is great too. But plates are bare and u need to order your sides. So it adds up. I like their hollaindaise with seafood with my steak. Cooked right.
