Ordered two black dragon rolls for takeout. Not the best dragon rolls I’ve had, but certainly above average. Included with my order was a complimentary serving of sesame glass noodles, which were excellent!

Went here for the first time today for a late dinner! Probably the only sushi place on Princess street open until 11pm. We ordered the spicy salmon, green dragon and yam and avocado roll. It came with a small yummy dish of sesame glass noodles — but only one for two of us, not sure why? The spicy salmon was really good! The other two were mediocre, I’m not a fan of the white sauce over top the avocado on the green dragon. They’re also a really good price! $ 3.50 for 6 pieces(spicy salmon and avocado/yam) and $ 7.95 for 8(dragon roll). The service was pretty slow, it took them a long time to take our order and they never came to check up on us or refill our water. The owners were sweet, apart from that.

I was very disappointed, and don’t understand why it is so overrated. The fish(especially tuna) seemed very cheap, and the sashimies were as thin as the ones that goes on nigiries. The server wasn’t attentive. We ordered a sashimi starter, a sushi delux, and an order of takoyaki. There were 5 pieces of salmon, two piecs of snapper, a piece of tuna, and one piece of yellow tail in sashimi starter. The sushi delux was supposed to have 18 pieces of «assorted» sushi, but half of them were salmon. The rice portion was big, the sizes of fishes were irregular, and again I don’t understand. why too much salmon? The delux had only 4 different kinds of fishes. The fishes were room temperature, as well. Not visiting this place ever, EVER again. I thought i was in salmon restaurant not a sushi restaurant. I recommend sima sushi restaurant which is couple mins down the road. Same amount of price with higher quality.

I used to love this place but the last two times I have gone in it has been lacking in flavour. Gone are the explosions of yum I used to experience. Still fresh fish and a great variety, just not sure it’s the best in Kingston anymore. Ownership change could be reason for the shift.

Completely disappointed with the experience… We passed by Kingston on our way to Ottawa and after reading many good reviews we decided to come to this restaurant for lunch. I ordered a sushi/sashimi/roll tray(small one) and 2 extra pieces of uni sushi but was told uni sushi is not available. Fine, at least I hoped the tray will satisfy me. Unfortunately the $ 45 tray was nothing but a dump of not even fresh salmon sushi(like 10 of them) and 2 white tuna sushi and 2 red tuna sushi, sashimi are pretty much the same combination, 80% salmon, 20% red/white tuna, rolls are just some spicy tuna and California. I was instantly shocked and thought I was in an AYCE sushi restaurant, after eating half of it I was pretty fed up, it’s nothing better than an average AYCE restaurant, if not worse. For a $ 45 tray I’d expect at least some more variety and much better quality sushi/sashimi. My wife’s tempura udon soup was also a miss and tempura’s texture is completely off. We left very disappointed and I completely agree d with one of the other review, after the change of ownership, this restaurant doesn’t deserve the current rating any more.

Izumo used to be one of my fav places in Kingston. However, the store changed owner/chef in 2014 Summer. I didn’t get around to trying the food til recently. I ordered rainbow roll, and the food is NOTFRESHATALL. Fish has to be fresh, or they stink A LOT. I almost threw up after eating one piece. I tried a bit of each piece(salmon, tuna, snapper etc) and they were all really old. You can see, smell, and taste that the food are wayyyy too old to be served. I also tried the fried squids which were also poorly made. I ordered around $ 50 dollars worth of food for myself which I end up dumping away in the end. Very disappointed!

Izumo wins. Coming from Toronto, I was full of trepidation about what would become of my sushi cravings. Luckily, I checked Unilocal and was directed to this delicious little spot with the promising tip that the chef came from Japango. Once again, my stomach is forever indebted to the advice of the experienced and wiser. The sushi and sashimi at Izumo is wonderfully fresh, and you can tell the ingredients are selected with love. The rolls are quite good as well, but I’d definitely opt for the sashimi instead; though if you love your rolls, there’s a(not on menu?!) option that Pete can make for you(dynamite roll with spicy salmon on top) that is definitely worth trying and reminds me of the fancy shmancy rolls I enjoyed so much from Torontonian sushi restos. Oh, did I mention that the prices are also super reasonable? There are some great bento options at lunch for $ 11. And 10% discount if you pay with cash. Overall, a lovely little place that serves amazing sushi/sashimi for surprisingly cheap — no wonder the associations with Japango. Thank you, Izumo, for bringing a slice of Toronto sushi to Kingston. I will be back, and back again(and again…)

I’ve long dreamed of having a local sushi shop that I love within my neighbourhood, and I’ve finally found that place! Izumo is a very small(seats 15 – 20) place with dedicated and enthusiastic chefs that really work hard at providing fantastic and creative sushi. I’m a pretty boring customer who orders basic sushi and sashimi, but every single time it’s amazing! Service is great, and everyone wants to make sure that you are satisfied. The most recent time I was in was for dinner, and although we didn’t have a reservation, the staff fit us in, and what made dinner especially special was the chefs custom roll he presented to us following dinner. It was so nice to feel specially treated and it makes me want to come back again as soon as possible.

Izumo is a really nice sushi place. It’s small, quaint, cozy(as is most sushi places in this town). I like the decorations, it feels a bit more bamboo-y, which I like. Had a spicy tuna roll(as usual) and it was pretty good. Not the best in the town, but it’s damn close.

Kingston, consider yourself very lucky. This is my favourite sushi place in the world and the ONLY place for sushi in Kingston. The sushi and sashimi are always fresh, and the rolls are creative, tasty, and perfectly balance the rice, fish, and other ingredients. We walked in on the first day they opened, and go out of our way to stop in on road trips between Toronto and Ottawa or Montréal. Kevin and Amy are among the nicest and most attentive restauranteurs I’ve gotten to know. Go to Izumo!

When my husband and I moved here a year and a half ago from BC, we knew we had to find a new favourite sushi restaurant. We tried pretty much every sushi restaurant in Kingston, until finally stumbling upon Izumo, and we haven’t been anywhere else since. It really is the best sushi in Kingston, as Kevin and Amy take great pride in their product and service. Make sure to call ahead for a reservation, as they fill up quickly depending on the night.

My husband loves sushi and has pretty high standards. Izumo Sushi is the only place we’ll go in Kingston. The owners Kevin and Amy are so nice and welcoming, and the food is always delicious. My husband loves the torched salmon and butterfish, and we never go without getting a spicy salmon roll. We eat there about once a week and always leave satisfied and happy. Go!

This is my first Unilocal review and I saved it for Izumo! This is the best place to get sushi in Kingston. My husband & I always get the Sushi Moriwase and the Sashimi Moriwase and it’s a hit every time. If we don’t get any appetizers then we make sure we get the Black Sesame Ice Cream — it is to DIE for! An added bonus is that the owners are so incredibly nice. Great sushi, great service, great time!

Yup… still the best sushi in Kingston Came back again because I was so impressed and they didn’t falter at all. Just top notch freshness and construction. The special Izumo, 30 pcs of quality sushi, cali roll and dynamite roll. Just perfect. It turns out the chef previously worked at Japango in Toronto, one of the better downtown sushi locals I’ve been too. No wonder they excel. I hope people realize what they’re missing because the sushi game seems pretty tough in Kingston but Izumo should be here to stay.
