I went to Red Boar for a lunch date with my young daughter and thought it was wicked good. I wasn’t sure if they would have anything on the menu for her, but to my surprise they had her favourite — Mac and Cheese! I had a tasty BBQ salad and a lovely sparkling water — a custom flavour that they recomeneded — SOGOOD! I can’t wait to return with my Husband and try other items on the menu :)

Wasn’t impressed, have tried the food here three times, been completely underwhelmed all three times. Service at counter was mediocre and unfriendly at best, price was high which I don’t mind but the lacklustre, bland food that was served to me was not good. Portions are average to small. Will not be back.

I shared the farmhouse with 4 people, one is a small eater, but a half pound of the meats and a half chicken was a good amount for us. The meats were pretty good and moist, except the pulled pork wasn’t the best I’ve had. Sausage was good not as mind blowing as a few reviews lead me to think. The pork belly was a nice option I haven’t see a lot other places. You didn’t need sauces but most of us added a bit. There are sides but not my area except the Mac n Cheese could have a bit more salt maybe or was just not exceptional and usually is a BBQ staple. The price was pretty reasonable I think, ya more than in Texas, but not bad crazy at all.

Delicious beef brisket sandwich; beans left something to be desired — more tomatoey than BBQ. They weren’t terrible, just not a highlight. I added some BBQ sauce and they were better. The interior has kind of a warm, rustic feel, with big wooden tables and benches. Led Zeppelin on the stereo — OK by me. Nobody would call this a budget place, as the prices are as healthy as the animals(hopefully) once were. Nevertheless, it seems like a good stop for some tasty smoked meat.

Overpriced and I’ve had much better smoked meat. However, I think it’s the best red deer has to offer in terms of the«southern bbq» feel. I’d go back if I had a craving, but I might wait to go back to Edmonton or Calgary to eat smoked meat.

First time and I loved it! I had the brisket sandwich with hickory BBQ sauce. It was melt in your mouth delicious! For my side I had the red boar sausage. My mom had the pulled chicken sandwich and it was just as tasty. Even though you have to go up to the counter to order and back up to get your food, they still came to the table to see how everything was and they came to clear our plates as well. Great service! We will be back for sure!

If you like having deliciously smoked tender meat with a side of meat(yes, even meat salad), then look no further. Red Deer landed a smokehouse that can handle Alberta’s quality of beef — even better, it’s all locally sourced. Except the peppercorn’s — they’re brought in from France. It’s true there is no table service, but that allows you to ask questions about combinations and what special feature they have on that day, as it is always changing. They will bring it to the table for you, it’s not like you have to go back in the kitchen and make it yourself. It’s easy to add on a ¼IB of one meat type or some extra ribs to your meal combination. Did I mention the AMAZING mesquite BBQ sauce made in house? Oh and there’s 3 other flavours to choose from. I see a lot of complaints on reviews for price, but remember folks: there’s no cheap filler here. Newsflash: meat is expensive. Try smoking your own to this delicious level of perfection, let me know how it turns out any cheaper. I’ve been here twice, tried a little of everything(Farmhouse platter is great for sharing) and can’t wait for my next meatnight. Highlights: brisket, pulled-pork(ask them to add sauce to the sandwich if you like it saucy), and pork ribs. The only improvement would be that I like it served a bit hotter temperature, as it tends to cool off quickly in there. Stay away from the chains and keep supporting local!

Really good, but the prices are reasonable but on the steeper end of reasonable. Had the beef ribs and the brisket, both were some of the best I’ve had.

I really want 3.5 stars for this review. I’d definitely go back, with the following in mind: 1. The food IS *really* good. 2. They are not cheap, and for a place that doesn’t offer table service, overpriced(IMO). But, reference #1, it’s almost worth it. 3. You have to pay for water. It’s «filtered».(Isn’t that the stuff that comes out of the tap? Why do I have to pay extra for it? Why isn’t there a choice for tap water for those of us who don’t care if it’s «filtered».) 4. Service was really, really slow — although this might be a result of showing up late in the lunch hour. There were only 2 guys working. 5. The coleslaw that you get on the side(if you ask for the apple-something-else-I-can’t-remember coleslaw) is the *same stuff* as what is on the pulled pork. This isn’t indicated anywhere that I could see.

Okay, this is not the best BBQ that I’ve ever had. That place is in Austin, TX with a block long line up at 10AM and sold out by 2PM. That being said, this place knows how to smoke! Low and slow turns the connective tissue in cuts of meat into jello, literal jello(google what gelatine is), with the right rub, the right wood, the right temperature and the right amount of time, you get savoury, mouth-watering, sense-exploding meaty gifts from god. In terms of BBQ, this is an eclectic smokery. Brisket and beef ribs clearly inspired by Texas, pork and chicken with keynotes from Kansas/Carolinas. The limitation to this is that you don’t get the specialization that means blocks long line ups at 10AM and sold out at 2PM — mostly because your smoker never changes temperature, it never gets seasoned by anything other than one rub and your sauce is keyed to that one flavour. The product that you get is very very good. The prices seem high, but the portions are more than generous, I think the best idea is to come in a group of four and order everything on the menu(which is itself a menu item). The sides are a little«foodie» for authentic BBQ, but they’re good, honestly they are there to make you feel that you’re not just eating an all meat meal, which I assure you that you’d be happy to do. A word of warning, don’t go expecting a vegetarian option. This is better than anything available in Edmonton and anything I’ve tried in Calgary. I think Red Deer is very lucky to have a pit as good as this one. If you’re a meat eater at all, do yourself a favour and give this place a try.

How can you give anything less than five stars to an establishment that sells Smoked Turkey Legs that isn’t located in a theme park or fairground? Especially when that Turkey Leg is both tender and full of smoky flavour, even without any sauces. Red Boar is the only place in Alberta that I feel I could take a Texan and say«this is alright.» Red Boar sells brisket, pulled chicken, and pulled pork by weight, as parts of meals, and as fillings for sandwiches. And each meal comes with sides. I enjoyed my sriracha smoked chicken salad more than I enjoyed my creamed corn. Red Boar is not cheap, but none of the decent bbq places in Alberta are. The décor is certainly on the hip side, with a chalkboard menu, dim, contemporary lighting, and a proprietor with a styled mustache. They have some unique drinks, including homemade flavoured sweet teas, which I enjoyed. They also have a licensed patio and decent beer selection.

So, I’ll start with this. If you are budget conscious, be aware that this is NOT a cheap eat. However, you DO get what you pay for. That being did, Red Boar Smokery is the best meat in town. Every thing I have tried there is delicious. The chicken is moist, the pulled pork and brisket is incredible, and the candied pork belly… sweet baby Jeebus, I could eat POUNDS of that. All locally raised meat, the staff is awesome, and if you need a good smoked meat experience, this is your place. They also have a nice selection of beer and pop to wash it down. The masters behind the meat have a bit of a changing menu, so try it all. But, DEFINITELY have the Siracha salad as a side. I don’t even eat salad and I loved it!
