I am a huge fan of the place, despite its shortcomings(young staff who are friendly but… young and, well, learning which way is up, and an odd layout). The chef is amazing, his menu is excellent, and his commitment to quality is unwavering. Try dinner in the back.

The sandwiches at Canadian Grub to Go are fantastic. I would highly recommend the«Eddie» and the«BLT».

Thought we’d try out a new place in Stratford, but despite the great theme I was disappointed. I ordered a roast beef sandwich and a Black Swan beer, and the wife and kids ordered pulled pork. The teenager at the front counter was less than enthusiastic and informed me they were out of Black Swan… bummer. The sandwiches arrived — mine with wilted greens, a good week past their prime. The soup was spiced carrot, and watered down to the point of being ridiculous. My meal was a 2⁄5. The wife and kids had pulled pork which was acceptable and the bread was excellent. A little on the chunky side though. Much better places to eat in Stratford, and it would be very easy to turn this place into an 3 – 4.

This was a great place to pick up a fantastic sandwich for lunch. Although there is limited seating the food can be made to go and Stratford has many lovely places to sit and have your meal. Highlighted by the fact that all their ingredients are local, this restaurant offers a touch of home and comfort to traditional Canadian foods. I will defiantly be going back!

I was really excited to try Canadian Grub, since it purports to represent Canadian food in a market filled with American tourists. Frankly, as a Canadian, I was embarrassed. I ordered the«Eddie,» a «pulled-pork» and mozzarella sandwich. Rule number one of pulled pork: it must be pulled. I bit into my first bite and got a huge, dry, butt-end chunk of unflavored pork. A thin squirt of lame grocery store BBQ sauce did not help the dryness at all. Three bites and three more huge, dry chunks of pork with rubbery cheese on top and I had to quit eating because it was too dry to swallow. My partner had the Roast Beef, which was just as bad. One thin, fatty, bone-dry slice of roast beef and too much dry lettuce. Sauce was similarly useless here. They overcharged me for a 32oz beer that we were planning to share, then cheerfully informed me that they only pour 20oz from those bottles. I assume the cook is drinking the extra 12oz of each. Speaking of, when I tried to tell the chef my problems, he clearly couldn’t have cared less. I wouldn’t have posted this review, but this was the final straw. If this is Stratford’s representation of Canadian food, then I am sad to call myself a Canuck.

Whilst visiting Stratford I’ve eaten here twice already. The food is grown entirely by Canadian farmers, the menu is diverse and earthy. So far I’ve had the hearty veggie soup, as well as the delicious chickpea/spinach veggie sandwich. For those looking for vegetarian options, these are about it. Abd for you carnivore there are ample offerings that look mouthwatering. The staff is warm, friendly and busy chopping, cooking and baking right before your very eyes in the open kitchens. Plus, you can«Grub To STAY» as there is ample seating!

Serves tasty«Canadian» sandwiches. If you can ignore the(strange) name and the(tacky) signage, the food is actually really good quality. You feel you’re getting something local-ish and unabashedly Canadian. Sometimes he(the owner) wants you to design your own sandwich, which can be a bit unnerving(I prefer pre-set choices for sandwiches), but otherwise it’s been a great experience every time we’ve gone there. The space is small(thus ‘to go’), though there are a couple seats for sure. Stratford needs more lunch options, so this was a great(recent) addition to the food scene in town.
