Oct. 30 I always laugh when I see a Chinese restaurant using french in their name. i just think its funny is all. Anyway, I ended up at this restaurant with a group of friends one evening during the Taste of Yaletown. The server recommended a delicious shrimp starter that came with walnuts. It was so good I brought an order home with me. The crispy dumplings appetizer was delicious but unfortunately my entrée was cold. They did offer to replace it, but by this time I had shared some and ate some, so half was gone. No discount was offered or drink or anything. I really enjoyed the dessert and found the mango ice cream very light and refreshing after the meal. I would give them another chance just to have those shrimp again!

Meh. I had been wanting to check this place out for a while, but the prices and lack of many reviews deterred me. When I saw they were participating in Taste of Yaletown, I made reservations for dinner with a friend. We arrived at 7pm on a Friday night and found the restaurant nearly empty. The staff outnumbered the customers 3 to 1. The interior seemed nice and sleek, I could see how this would translate nicely into a lounge in the back area. Our server was super friendly and attentive — if anything, since we were her only table she was a little too attentive which made us feel like we couldn’t just relax in conversation. Considering there were only a couple other tables there, there was no reason for us to feel rushed. Apparently the prices which had deterred me were meant for family style sharing for a larger group, and for a smaller table, you could do half-orders to split. This made much more sense, and I wish that I’d known this from viewing their menu online before. The wonton soup with roasted duck broth was really great. I enjoyed this, the wontons were well-sized and the broth was perfect. I felt my main entrée was incredibly bland, however. The wok beef with gai lan and brown rice. I asked for hot sauce, but I felt like I also needed salt/soy and some garlic pepper. It had a lot of potential as it was well cooked and well-presented. However, the lack of flavors left me feeling disappointed. For dessert, I had the coconut and vanilla rice pudding. What surprised me was the fruit infused in this dessert which had not been mentioned in the menu at all. Still, I liked the dessert and felt it was a good size for one person. Would I come back? Maybe. There are plenty of other options on the dinner menu I would like to try. However, if I have a hankering for real Chinese food, I definitely wouldn’t come here.

Went here with 4 girlfriends for a night on the(Yale)town. We went in after some drinks & appies at the nearby Keg, and got there about 8 – 8:30 and it was EMPTY. There is this awesome backroom with a DJ and loungey type seating and a full bar. We were wanting something a bit busier, so we left and came back around 10:30pm. It was still pretty quiet but definitely picked up. Our server was really nice and we met the owner who was really nice, too. We ended up seeing him later at his other bar(Cento Notti) as well. The DJ was good, playing everything from 80s pop to current club mixes. We didn’t eat anything there, but I think it is more a place I would return for late night, not necessarily for dinner. I’ll be back.

Food was good. Regular good Chinese food. It’s real Chinese no fusion musion… The place is amazingly decorated and I enjoy that… Feels very cool, very trendy, a bit elitist, there is definitely a scene going on. Prices… super high for what you get. Will I go again??? Maybe… it was $ 170.00 for two… so gotta check bank account before returning.

Another cool trendy restaurant addition to Yaletown with up market old school Chinese style west coast slight twist. Connections to Opus Hotel restaurant… The old brick walls are covered in beautiful water paintings to complement the hood and restaurant. A slight pretentious feel here, Anyways; As in Hong Kong hang fresh BBQ duck,& chicken behind windows, giant wood pillars support open beam old Yaletown wood ceilings. Oh what about the menu & food. Sweet & sour cod or free range chicken, dungeness whole crab beef & broccoli, crispy prawn wonton all standard staples for HongCouver menus. We enjoy a quick snack pre movie snack spicy/crispy calamari and hit the spot… BTW: Chinois is Chinese in French.
