First time in Canada and, being from SoCal, decided to try the sushi. This place has great customer service, and very fresh fish. Their rolls are very special and not what I’m used to, but they’re sooo delicious. It’s also nice that I get to have a bottle of beer with my fish since the legal drinking age is 19. Definitely worth a try(and another, and another)!

We’re blessed to say that there is no shortage of sushi places in Vancouver(which says a lot, given that I loathe the word ‘blessed’ to begin with) or good sushi places for that matter. But amongst the gazillion ones that have opened, I stay with Kaide. Now, if you are looking for a flashy, modern and upscale place, this is not your meal. Kaide is unpretentious, simple and affordable. People come here for the food. You will find traditional preparations of sashimi, extremely fresh fish, and great service.

Kaide sushi is the real deal. Super fresh. from the ocean to the plate. loved the sockeye salmon. Toro, was delicious and buttery. Mango Salmon roll was perfect blend of flavors. Everything pops and tap dances on your taste buds. Pure Miso soup. The highlight was Dungess crab, Real crab. perfectly wrapped in Nori. House made ginger. What’s not to like. In Vancouver a city with plenty of Japanese choices. Kaide has become one of my favorites. Amen!

While they have some exotic fish(ie. butter fish) and the fish quality was fresh, I just can’t deal with their rice… It was hard. Not like hard and cold, ’cause that would mean it came from the fridge. It was just hard. Sometimes there were bits of unchewables. I don’t understand. According to my friend, this is not an isolated incident. We ordered some rolls to share, one of which is the«Kaide» dynamite roll. What that really means is, the shrimp is not fried in tempura batter. Instead, it is wrapped in cornflakes. Yes, cornflakes, as in the cereal, I kid you not. I guess it’s not as heavy as tempura, but why? The nigiris were good, at least the fish portion. It was perfectly cut, the right temperature, and very fresh. This is the first place I’ve tried butter fish and I love it! But again, that rice… The servers were nice and attentive, though. Would not return because I can get fish somewhere else with better rice. Oh man the number of times I’ve mentioned«rice», I sound like a rice bowl, even though I normally don’t eat that much rice. Oh look, another 3 repeats of «rice». Oops, 4. Stop it.

This place is pretty good and reasonably priced. I grabbed take out and it was ready in 20 minutes and was very fresh.

Kaide Sushi is a very fine sushi joint snug in Yaletown. I would say one of my favorites in the area. The sushi is fresh and cut to greatness. The servers are attentive and pretty much any item on the menu is good to great. I had the Kaide Assorted sushi which is the chef’s recommendations for the day. With every sushi piece complimenting each other as I munch my way to the last one. Yum. Come here, and come often!

Kaide came up on the Unilocal app as the best sushi in the area, and my expectations were high, given the great seafood we’ve had in Vancouver. Unfortunately, Kaide failed to live up to the hype. The sashimi sampler was just okay, artistically presented, fresh, and nicely cut but quality was fair to average. The specials are definitely the way to go, with butterfish being one of the standouts. We opted for a few of their featured rolls, only to find several unavailable and the ones we did try underwhelming. Service was adequately attentive considering how busy they were, but ultimately, if this is some of the best sushi the city has to offer, I don’t need to try anywhere else in town.

This place has enough positive reviews already but I’m about to jump on the bandwagon anyway because it’s THAT good. They have an amazing assortment of fish and it’s all very fresh here. And the best part is that it’s all at a very affordable value. Order the Kaide Assorted Sushi for the ultimate sampler. It offers uni(sea urchin), unagi(eel), butter fish, hamachi(yellowtail), blue fin tuna, hokkigai(surf clam), chopped scallops and the best tamago I’ve ever had. The platter came out hella beautiful — not because there were added garnishes, but because each sushi looked so damn fresh and tasty. My jaw literally dropped… We also ordered the Spicy Tuna Don(thick slices of tuna, not spicy at all if you’re concerned) and the Rising Sun roll(different, but not a favourite because I’m personally not a fan of asparagus). Kaide keeps it simple and they let the fish speak for itself(well, you know, if it could talk…). Truly a must-try if you’re looking for some of the best sushi in Vancouver!

What a gem! The sushi was insanely fresh. We ordered the Mako roll and another roll that had this crispy lemon rind that was such a joy to taste. All pieces of the nigiri were delicious – we had the Chef’s sushi special that came with 8 nigiri, mayo scallop, sea urchin, omelette, and 3 pieces of tuna/salmon roll each. All varieties of fish were of high quality– no fishiness or weird texture. The miso soup was simply good – wholesome, not salty, great seaweed and soft tofu. Would for sure come back again. Service was great too, sushi came out in good time.

Great Japanese gem in downtown Vancouver. Upon entering, we were greeted by friendly servers and a very happy chef. It is a small space and you can expect a wait for food if it busy, because there is only two? people preparing the food at the counter. Many reviews here say that the fish is fresh and that is absolutely true! The sashimi melts in your mouth. The chopped scallop roll is the best we ever had… and we have tried a lot! Negitoro was good as well. We tried the special inari which had wonderfully seasoned and soft beancurd with smoked salmon inside($ 3.50). The menu says green tea is $ 2 so maybe go the safe route and ask for water. I don’t remember if we got charged for tea. Personally I would only go on special occasions due to its high prices. The quality of the food is unparalleled though and is worth what you pay! UPDATE: Hmmm reading other reviews, and the assorted sushi I got the other day for take-out did not have a tuna roll but it was kappa :( And also we did not get watermelon at the end of our meal!

And just when I thought I’ve eaten tamago everywhere, or the best toro sashimi: this is now my go to place. Made in-house of course, as you can see the layers in the pic. Nice and plump. Which leads to the good fish: perfect temperature, not those freezing cold ones you taste at those Korean/chinese-operated sushi places, lol. And even if you tried not to eat all in one bit, it’s so irresistible!!! Great bar action, this is where to watch it all. Sapporo beer here.

Surprisingly high quality and delicious for a fairly casual dining spot! The prices are pretty great(especially after the USD conversion right now!) for the portions and freshness of the fish. I ordered the Kaido Chirashi which came with an assortment of delicious fish: Wild sockeye salmon, hamachi, scallop, eel, uni, butterfish, and a few more I can’t remember. Oh! And tamago. The sushi rice was perfectly seasoned and the quality of each fish was stellar! Good miso soup too. The servers were nice and attentive, always refilled our water/tea. Would definitely recommend.

At first, it looks like a very casual sushi spot but I was very impressed with Kaide. My fellow sushi lover, Melissa C. suggested we try this place out for dinner while I was in town and I have no regrets. We both ordered our own Chef’s Sushi Special($ 22) and the result was beautiful and delicious. I thought the portion was perfect and I finished every piece on my plate haha. We had uni, toro, red tuna, eel, scallops… definitely a bang for your buck. Every fish tasted very fresh and for the price, you can’t complain at all. Their hot green tea also tasted very authentic and soothing. And at the end, they served small pieces of watermelon for dessert — so refreshing and nice of them. They also make their own sauces in house, which they are very proud of. The ponzu sauce is highly recommended and definitely tastes better with the sushi than soy sauce so try it! You wouldn’t think a small sushi restaurant located in the discrete residential area would serve such fresh sushi and have such friendly and warm service. Kaide is a gem and I would recommend to any sushi lover who appreciates quality and friendliness!

Looking for good sushi isn’t difficult in Vancouver but finding quality sushi with genuine service and atmosphere, that is a little harder — Kaide accomplishes all of that. My friend Andrea P. and I were lucky to be seated right away on a Saturday night at 7pm. This tiny restaurant is small but it didn’t feel cramped because they didn’t sardine the tables. We both already knew we wanted to go for the Chef’s Special Omakase of 9 pieces of nigiri with ½ orders of salmon and tuna maki, all for $ 22! I was so happy today’s special had Uni! Along with Toro, Salmon, Butterfish, Hamachi, Unagi, Chopped Scallop, Hokkigai, Yellowfin Tuna and Tomago. I enjoyed the time and explanation the waitress gave with each nigiri and also suggesting the house-made ponzu with the hamachi. The toro was buttery and smooth, salmon was rich in flavour, uni was buttery and sweet, and everything else was fresh and tasty. In past reviews they noted lackluster tea and an extra charge of $ 0.50. But I happy to say you can scratch that all out because the green tea had the most green tea flavour I had ever tasted and there wasn’t a single extra charge on the bill. What did come with the bill was a complimentary dish of watermelon, such a refreshing and lovely way to end our meal. Overall, very satisfied with the freshness and quality of the food, and polite and friendly experience! A very good use of your money towards delicious nigiri.

What an amazing experience. We sat at the bar and essentially just kept asking the chef what was good. That led to a wonderful assortment of nigiri including amazing uni, wild salmon, and toro, not to mention great conversation about how the chef sources locally. The fish is incredibly fresh and thoughtfully prepared. The place is nondescript, and it’s tucked away down Richards Street, but it’s a hidden gem, with incredibly reasonable prices for what you get. Definitely worth the stop. Fair warning, get there on the early side, the good stuff runs out quickly.

I have to say this is some of the best, freshest sushi I’ve ever had. I got some takeaway from here one late night after work, after seeing all the good reviews. Upon entry and exit, I was given one of the friendliest, most polite welcomes I’ve had in any restaurant, and I mean exceptionally friendly/polite… even for Canada. I chose the Kaide Assorted Sushi, took that container home, and nearly didn’t eat it given how nicely wrapped up it was. The sushi, as mentioned above, was amazingly fresh and tasty. They even honoured my request of not using cucumber, which many places tend to forget. To top it all off, the prices are pretty reasonable, and I can’t think of a single reason you shouldn’t try this place.

We got their Chef’s assorted nigiri to-go(10 items for $ 22). As before, it was amazing. Now that the season for fresh uni has come, one of the nigiri contained uni. It was fresh, creamy and delicious. The selection also contained their seasonal blue fin tuna, which was quite rare in Vancouver. My mouth was on heaven when I first bite into it. Also double thumbs-up for the consistency in their toro, amaebi and hamachi. They never failed my expectation. Did I also mention that they always used fresh sockeye for their salmon? Well, they did. Another thing I forgot to remark in my previous review was how delicious their tamago is. It’s such an understated, simple dish I often ignored. Kaide’s chef made me appreciate this dish in a whole level.

Salvation was found here. I was craving a better than average place after some disappointing places. Yaletown has a lot of trendy spots, but not a lot of restaurants that focus solely on food. Kaide is the one exception. From first appearances, it looks like nothing special– a small joint with the sushi making station facing the entrance, a few wooden tables, and non-fussy décor. When you get down to it, the fish speaks for itself. Their nigiri is the best I have ever had anywhere– including Japan. Order the assorted sushi; for $ 18, you cannot go wrong with such delicious cuts of fish. The butterfish, imported from Korea, and the toro were the standouts on my plate. I really wanted uni, but because it wasn’t in season, they didn’t offer it. I love that they do not sacrifice quality to make an extra buck. As a reference, uni is offered year-round on the East Coast regardless of when it was actually caught. It was refreshing to hear that Kaide maintains high standards. It has been a while since a joint has earned a5 in both food & service from me. Two nights worth of meals during a one week trip is unheard of, but it was worth it.

The atmosphere and interior is decent, but nothing special. The rolls aren’t particularly inventive, and the offerings are the same old sushi standards. The prices are the same you would expect to pay for any mediocre Sushi shack, but the quality and freshness is some of the best you’ll find at any price. Nothing less than perfect cuts of the freshest, highest quality sushi I’ve ever had, possibly matched only by one of the best regarded sushi havens in Kyoto, Japan. Don’t come for creativity or ambiance. Come for perfectly prepared, unbelievably fresh raw fish, and you won’t be disappointed.
