Ny wife’s favorite! We sat at the end of the bar cosest to the bar and loved the drinks and Karaōke. An owner/patron came in with wonderful Jello shots he was eager to share. It wa a great evening.

If your CA visit takes you a short drive across the border, stop by Charly’s for some authentic Mexican Food and some strong cocktails! Take a visit to the newly added upper level — admire the the ocean views and how only in mexico plywood walls and ceilings fall within code. The Shrimp Skewers rock and whatever is in the pink dip, be sure to get lots of chips because if you share me and my friends love for food, you’ll possibly be taking some with you as you wait in the border line back home.

Was in the area on vacation for a few days, locals recommended this place and I have to stay it lives up to its hype. I had stopped in for a take out order 10 fish tacos and 10 shrimp tacos all fried of course. Had some time before the meal was ready so the owner came over and we chatted a bit I drank a couple Indios and soon as I knew it food was ready. Let me go back a bit, the atmosphere is definitely Mexican but with some what of the American tourism as there clientele as it was Monday and they had the football game on several Americans in the place watching the game which was awesome. Now back to the food took it back to the house and opened up the boxes and BAM!. Pure deliciousness, the food is mind blowing perfect crunch and cooked just right, seasonings and sauce on top just make it that much better, they serve it with what seem to be lightly fried jalapeños and many they pack a punch. Will be back every time I’m in rosarito with out doubt.

Good food, good drinks. A favorite amongst the local ex-pat americans in Baja. I always try to stop in at least once per trip.

I won’t ever go down to Baja again without making a stop at Charly’s. This place is classic. The food was delish, especially the sizzling rock bowl of shrimp goodness. The staff was super dialed in, the vibe was really fun and it was affordable… plus, karaōke. We rolled in with a group of 12 at 5:30pm and ended up staying til 11 or so. Really great time. Charly’s staff — if the one of you who took video of our group singing Piano Man on the 4th of July has the video, send me a link!

Charlys just about made our trip to Mexico. Such a cute little dive with great décor, awesome service, good food, and karaōke! Such a fun time, we came back two nights in a row! Congo line through the bar, what more do you ask for…

We had a great time at karaōke. The waitstaff was super nice and the karaōke dj helped us have a lot of fun. When it was time to go home our cabbie didn’t answer his phone. Two of the waitresses took us home to Gaviotas in their personal cars. It was an incredible touch of hospitality for which we are incredibly grateful. Thank you Charly’s!

Decided on a stop at Charly’s yesterday on our way down to Ensenada from Rosarito for a late breakfast/early lunch based on the positive Unilocal reviews. The place is literally right on Route 1 and would be easy to miss if you didn’t keep an eye out for the giant Jesus statue on the hill facing it opposite. Luckily I shrieked out«THERE’S JESUS!» and Brandon, half freaked out/half confused, braked just in time to pull into one of the tiny spaces in front of Charly’s. The place is small and constructed mostly of bare ply-wood, but initial misgivings went away upon entering a festive, fairly full restaurant with a bar in the middle and open kitchen in back. We were promptly delivered homemade tortilla chips, three different salsas and roasted jalepenos, which we happily munched away on along with my Bloody Mary(skip this, it’s ALL Clamato) and his Sprite while we waited for our order. I had prepared myself to dine on «Mexican time» so we patiently let twenty, thirty and then forty minutes pass for our meals. In hindsight, I would avoid going here on Sunday for brunch. It was all large parties of families who apparently arrived JUST before us. I used to be a restraurant manager… I GETIT. But acknowledge the long wait times, please! I finally caught the manager’s eye and respectfully mentioned that we’d ordered almost an hour earlier. His response was a nod and«I know». It would have been nice to have been offered another drink at least but it’s Mexico, service standards here are completely different. Upon finally receiving the food we were both pleased. My huevos con chorizo were delicious, especially inside the homemade corn tortillas with the chipotle crema brought with the salsa. Brandon’s carnita quesadilla was appreciated, too. We had both unfortunately filled up so much on chips while waiting, we both couldn’t finish. Final verdict: The food and value were good, the service was lacking. I’d advise visitors to avoid dining here on Sunday around bruch time.

Charlies has a fun atmosphere, but the food is just ok. Talapia fish tacos are big, but have no taste(hint: Fresh Water Fish is no bueno for fish tacos). The margaritas are great, but sometimes you get 90% Ice and they dont even fill it to the top. The owner Hymie is nice to people he knows and sometimes can be quite stand offish. If you want to go get your coctail on, then Charly’s is the place. Chips n Salsa are pretty good with a cold one. I’ll be back, but not for ¾ filled Margaritas, plus they just built an upstairs bar and seating that is pretty cool.

The staff are all so welcoming. For starters, they immediately bring out chips, salsa, sour cream dip, and roasted jalapeños. The food is incredible. My husband and I split the sopa. It came bubbling hot in a rock bowl. So, so good!!! Walking distance of Las Rocas hotel.

Great people, good food and excellent margaritas. Thursday dinner buffet for $ 10. This is a great hangout and many regulars to enhance the atmosphere. Carne asana torta hit the spot and the chips and salsa with roasted jalapeños are awesome.

Jaime and the crew are top notch! Our routine: Cross border, enjoy view down the coast and stop at Charly’s for a Margie… Ahhh, we are stuck in Baja again(not to be confused with ‘Lodi’). Come for the karaōke and hear me kill it:)

Charley’s was a pleasant surprise. Don’t let the exterior mislead you. The place is pretty nice inside. The great food and people make it what it is. The best fish taco we have had.

Cute local place. Karaōke. Friendly wait staff that spoke English. Menu was bilingual as well. Strong margaritas. We were given house-made chips and three(!) dipping sauces(2 salsa and 1sour cream based one that tasted like garlic and onions. Num!) and a bowl of roasted chilis. We ordered the chicken torta and garlic shrimp burrito. They both were good. Two margaritas, two beers and two meals cost less than the taxi from TJ! I was really surprised when I saw the check. :) They take credit cards with ID. The walk from our hotel(Las Rocas) was a short but dark and along the highway, however if staying here again I’d definitely go back to Charly’s.

This is the most authentic Mexican food I’ve had in my short time out here in Rosarito. We went to El Nido the other night on the recommendation of our hotel concierge, and while more expensive, with venison, rabbit, quail, and other rare meats, it doesn’t beat the home-cooked, down to earth, simple-yet-delicious authentic Mexican of Charly’s Place. My wife and I sat down and we’re greeted with generous portions of just-made tortilla chips, cream dip, bowl of key limes, and, and thick salsa. Neither one of us we’re especially hungry, having had a late lunch, but, but the chips we’re great. I ordered a Michelada and the waiter schooled me on the different types of savory flavored beers(I had the spicy version afterwards). My wife ordered a bean and cheese burrito, and raved about the homemade tortilla, and ate the whole thing despite being stuffed. My eyes we’re bigger than my stomach when I ordered the fish soup and the garlic fish burrito. The soup was rich — tasted like it was being cooked all day, and the white fish was plentiful and fresh. I saved the burrito for the meat day at our hotel, and even though I heated it in the room microwave, it tasted great. I’m used to fish burritos with tiny specs of fish, but this thing was enormous, and it was 90% huge chunks of whitewash fish — sooo good. All this, 4 beers, burritos and soup for $ 32. Oh, the guys running karaōke was super nice too. Go here.

After a amazing trail ride through the hills of Baja, the owner of All the Pretty Horses of Baja rescue recommend Charlys. Not only was it right by our hotel but it was also fabulous. Charlys is a cute little locals place located on the free road between Rosarito and puerto Nuevo. I ordered a garlic shrimp taco, a fish taco and an asada taco. They were each delicious in their own way. They serve all meals with fire roasted jalapeños, creamy chipotle sauce, fresh salsa and chips. Dip the jalapeños in the sauce, you won’t regret it. And the best part… The bill for 3 of us with 8 tacos and 4 margaritas? Under 40 bucks!

New place along the free(libre) road along the coast just half a kilometer above the famous surf spot of K-38. It is very big inside with a really cool bar in the middle between two dining rooms. There must be eight or more flat screen TV’s and even a 7 foot wide drop down screen for a projection system for watching sports like PPV boxing. Locals and gringos eat here because it is a bright and well managed place with some great Mexican mom cooks in the kitchen. Menu is pretty simple stuff, but Charley has a seafood Thursday buffet(5 – 8) that draws a crowd for $ 7.00. Sunday buffet is 9 – 1 for $ 7. Popular among the expatriates. I can vouch for the breakfast here. The chorizo & eggs was really packed with chorizo not like other places in Baja the scrimp on the chorizo. Beans were good. The chips that are immediately served when you sit down are REALTORTILLAS that have been fried — awesome crunch. There are three salsas that come with the chips, along with lime wedges and grilled jalapenos. There is a white salsa made with crema that is really special with all kinds of veggies and stuff in it. The other ones are red salsas. One is salsa ranchero and the other is a chipotle salsa. The red salsas are medium hot so even gringos can eat them. Free Wifi and cold beer will bring me back to Charley’s.
