Easy choice for lunch, pick your own sushi, sit outside in the sun and watch the world go by. Nothing out of the ordinary, but well presented(the usual lineup, with both hot and cold options).

Mmmmmmm Japanese is one of my favourite foods, maybe my favourite. Apart from pizza. Whenever I get the old, ‘if you could only have one dish for the rest of your life, what would it be?’ The answer is always Japanese. It has certainly had a massive boom in New Zealand over the last 10 years and a sushi restaurant can be found in pretty much every little town in the country. Devonport seemed a bit late to pick up on the Jap, but they eventually gave in, and Asahi is a little gem. I prefer the sushi restaurants that let you pick your own bits, and Asahi does this. The selection isn’t as massive as some other places, but you can tell they are of the philosophy of doing less, really well. Every piece is tasty, fresh and soft. If you don’t feel like sushi, there is also a menu full of all the usuals, all of which look yummm. Take away or grab a mag and eat there. Another Japanese success.
