You know that feeling when nothing with a café is particularly terrible, but you’re not going to return? Atomic just did that to me. The coffee was great at this Kingsland café(as you’d expect since it’s the base of the Atomic brand coffee roasters) and the display of sweet treats at the counter looked lovely — so I’d recommend the place if you just need a caffeine/sugar pick-me-up. The café has a nice airy space inside and a few outdoor tables on the roadside, and service was friendly. Unfortunately our brunch meals fell flat. My mushroom ragout came in a little pot and was of skimpy consistency in a thin juice, not the gluggy rich stew you’d expect from this dish. It also came with one small bit of toast and I had to request another piece in order to eat the mushrooms(come on Atomic don’t be a bread stinge — not everyone’s gone paleo). My friend’s granola looked pretty adorned with flowers, but unfortunately didn’t quite hit the mark in terms of taste. And the two other girls ordered chicken salads, which they said had nice Asian flavours but could have been made better at home. However, we agreed with collective food envy that the salmon bagel at the next table looked pretty tasty. Overall, a few tweaks to ramp up the food would really uplift the place, but in the meantime there’s too many other cafes to choose from that are doing everything right.

On a sunny Auckland afternoon you can’t beat a good Cold Brew Coffee! This is a bit of a treat coffee for me from the usual but came highly recommended from one of the staff here at Atomic Coffee Roasters. This is there take on the ~ Coco Cold Brew ~ A blend of their delicious cold brew over ice with coconut milk and a dash of condensed milk for extra sweetness. I can gladly tell you it is divine and didn’t last very long at all! The coffee and sweetness balance was just right and was the perfect Monday afternoon pick me up and treat

I have been compelled to write this review given the absolutely horrendously bad service I have just been given by the«upity, arrogant, too cool for school» woman who served me. To start with I had to wait an excessively long time to be served. I bought 3 coffees and a wrap, and«miss snooty» took my money and then walked away to clear a table without taking care of my order… weird I thought. I had to ask her if she was going to actually give me the items I had paid for, to which she just looked at me and flounced off returning with my stuff without so much as a sorry, thank you or bye have a nice day! Really if that’s the type of business you guys want to run then I or the people I was with won’t be coming back. There is alot of competition in Kingsland with by far and away much better service and offerings than what Atomic staff can offer and we will be giving them our cash instead.

Finally somewhere that does great bircher! My favourite time to go is early morning, mid-week. It’s not crazy busy like the weekend and they have this long communal table that’s perfect for sprawling the newspaper out on. Plus, the coffee is always spot on and they have wifi. I find their coffee to be more intense that a lot of other kiwi coffee brands — to intense in the arvo but as a first-thing-in-the-morning-don’t-talk-to-me-til-I’ve-finished coffee, it hits the spot. Did I mention they have great bircher? It comes in a jar with a flower garnish. Cute.

You come here for so many different reasons. As a nod to Atomic’s place it helping create Auckland’s specialty coffee industry over the past decade or so. As a mainstay of Kingsland businesses — we do remember when this space first opened as a much smaller concept, roasting and tasting store. And now as a full on coffee experience that celebrates the roasting process — with windows onto the commercial roasting operation, the celebration of coffee brewing — with a full bar of not only espresso, but pour overs, chemex, siphons, and the creation of a great local vibe space. I had a siphon, which was expertly made and tasted just great. Awesome food selections. Friendly — well yes, mostly, still a little stand’off’ish for my liking(strong believer that mature businesses should be comfortable in their skin and let more genuine warmth flow through).

I don’t really drink coffee regularly. I know, I might be the only one. But I enjoy it, and I always drink it to be sociable. I consider myself ignorant to what constitutes the difference between a good coffee and a really good coffee, even a bad coffee might slip under my radar until one of my want to be coffee conisuer friends starts to complain about it. When I tried the coffee at Atomic Coffee Roasters I knew it was good. As soon as you walk in you get the impression that it is a place which takes coffee seriously. If I lived close by I would consider becoming a regular coffee drinker.

Good coffee needs a good place for you to drink it. And Atomic is a really nice place to drink really nice coffee. They renovated their store about a year ago and they’ve done it so well. The inside is modern, clean, but cozy. The outside is sunny and a great way to get some Vitamin D. Exactly what a café should be. They have a huge range of different kinds of coffee from espresso to chemex, syphon and their cold brew. I got my family their cold brew concentrate as Christmas presents and they loved it. They have a cabinet that’s filled with great food, but often goes really fast so get in quick. Atomic is one of Auckland’s best cafes and I’d go there any day.

Easily my favourite coffee in Auckland, words can’t even describe just how incredible it is, even the little patterns they do with the milk froth amaze me. All the coffee is roasted right on site and the smell is enchanting, like caramelized sugar. Even if I am late for a meeting and drive past, the smell makes my car park itself it’s so weird and before I know it I’m in there ordering a coffee. Please don’t take the coffee away! Have it there and allow the baristas to work their magic, having it in their cups seems to make the coffee taste even better. Its a huge café, with plenty of seating, I always sit outside. I also purchase their coffee beans for when I make coffee at home and next on my list is a bottle of their single origin Yirgacheffe Cold Brew concentrates. Anyone who enjoys their daily coffee simply must try what Atomic has on offer.

The coffee here is fantastic, all roasted on site. The staff are all really friendly and helpful. They sell coffee filter paper amongst other coffee accessories that you might need as well as sell the beans(PERK: Buying beans entitles you to a free coffee which you can save for another day if you so wish. woot!). The food is also really great(the cakes are delicious and usually come with a side of yoghurt), it’s a lovely place to hangout, really well lit… I love the feel to it. It can get quite busy, but the place is large enough to accommodate their loyal customers. The best café amongst the Kingsland Shops in my humble opinion.

Any Aucklander knows Atomic coffee roasters — their coffee can be found at numerous cafes around Auckland, but did you know that they have their own concept café in Kingsland? What’s better is that it’s been newly renovated and is just plain awesome. Delicious cabinet food and salads, but first and foremost — obviously — kick ass coffee. The roastery is based right there so there’s always a range of different beans to try. You can also buy beans to take home — and if you do, they’ll give you a free coffee.
