This is a great bakery because of its variety. They have a great selection of yummy filled rolls with an awesome variety of fillings. My favourite is the Vietnamese filled roll & when you toast it. It’s yummy warm & crunchy. Their savoury & sweet muffins are a generous size. I haven’t tasted them all but again there is a great variety. My favourite is the spinach feta muffin. Also have of course pies, sausage rolls etc though I haven’t tasted them & a great choice of pastas & noodles. The history of this place was that it was a bakery bread factory. So they bake all their yummy breads. They have a great selection of special variety breads. They still make large toasties good old favourite. They also have lovely variety of cakes. Beautifully decorated. Although I have tasted them I’ve gotten an idea by the mini versions of sweet muffins. All in all I’ve rated a 4 because of the wide variety of selection of bakery food.

A good friend of mine lives just down the road from The Bakers Cottage and has been raving about it for pretty much as long as I can remember. It is his go-to on mornings after a biggie and he made me promise I would go. So one morning after a wee shindig at his, we went up the road. I was pretty pleased with the outcome. They have massive range of stuff including pies, rolls, sweet thangs, coffee, bread, salads and pasta meals. The coffee is really yum which kind of surprised me, pleasantly of course. I had a steak and cheese pie and it was really good. The pasty was nice and not to thick or buttery and they had actual chunks of meat in the pie rather than jelly meat stuff. The service was good and relaxed and they have good seating outside in the sun which is really nice. Although we just took our pies back to bed. I will be going back.

I kind of feel in two minds about the Baker’s Cottage and how many precious stars I should give them. On the one hand, their cabinet food is pretty revolting. It looks and tastes kind of like it’s coated in some sort of disgusting plastic veneer. This is obviously a bad thing, because horrible baked goods in a bakery is usually a total deal breaker. But the Baker’s Cottage has an ace in the hole. This place makes bread. And it is fucking amazing. I bike all the way across town to Eden Terrace just to get some of their wholemeal bread. It’s like a loaf of bread made out of cake. I give this place four stars based on its incredible bread alone.

Myles took me to The Bakers Cottage for lunch. I’d never heard of it, let alone been before, so I had zero expectations. The place is a dine in bakery. You can get food to go too, but there’s a lot of seating on their verandah. There are a plethora of things to eat: sandwiches, subs, salads, pasta dishes, pies, quiches, sausage rolls, a tonne of sweets. They sell bread also. I got the caesar salad and a sausage roll. I didn’t finish either because the salad was of pretty generous proportion and I overestimated my stomach’s limit. It was a good salad(although it did kind of taste like it was bad for you — lots of dressing and bacon and eggs) and I’d get it again. The sausage roll was just okay. There’s parking on site and people were lined up out the door so it’s obviously popular. I would definitely go back to try some of the other things because the range of food is so extensive.

Today we went to the Bakers Cottage for the second time. Last week when we went there we thought it was really good, my partner and I each had a sub and a danish. The subs were fresh and the danish was delicious. However, this time we had a pretty terrible experience. First off, I needed to go to the loo when we arrived and yuck, it was gross. Everything was dusty and unclean and they didn’t even have any hand soap! But luckily they had hand sanitiser instead. Then we ordered. I got a coffee, fruit salad and a quiche, my partner got a coffee, salami sub and a danish. Let’s start with the good; the coffee was really nice(Altura coffee. mmmm…) and so was the danish and the sub. But what I ordered was horrible. The fruit salad was rancid, it was actually fizzy like it had fermented and it was revolting. The quiche wasn’t much better. It had no flavour and was really weirdly gelatinous. When I took the fruit salad back they didn’t offer any apology or a refund but when I asked for a refund they were happy to oblige. I don’t think we will go back here, or if we do it’ll only be for the coffee.
