This is a place I like. It is a dimly lit bar, which is always a good night out. I love going here for gigs, which range from quirky electronic, indie bands, and international djs there is always something on. This can mean though there is often a cover charge, although often starting a little later in the evening so if you arrive early you can avoid this. The cocktails served in tea pots are a must. Makes for a fun way to have a drink or two or three. The decoy is great, keeps a homely touch with a quirky edge. This place certainly holds a lot of character.

I feel like this place has the potential to be pretty awesome. Maybe we were just there too early or something. It’s similar to World Bar in Sydney for the fact that they do cocktails in teapots starting at $ 16. I like a dark, dingy bar so this fact definitely appealed to me but seating was pretty limited. The reason we left was because there were a group of guys sitting next to us being ridiculously obnoxious(considering it was only around 10pm), throwing flowers and shot glasses around the glasses, being raucous, hitting each other and the staring — you could feel their eyes burning through you. They were obviously too intoxicated but the bar kept serving them and it made us feel quite unsafe so we left. I would have liked to try this place out a little later in the evening when it took off and at a time where I actually felt comfortable being there.

It absolutely is an amazing place for catching up with bunch of friends, enjoying the light but gorgeous food also of course those wonderful drinks. Have tried teapot and bubbles, feel great! Love the balcony seat!!!

Would you like to have the experience of a briny sardine, marinating in oil while children bash against the glass of your aquarium? Would you like to return home after a night out in Auckland with inflamed vocal chords, a perforated eardrum, a few cigarette burns on your new shirt and some sort of sickening Indian dessert broiling about in your belly? Cassette Nine is The Place. You can pay exorbitant prices for watery«cocktails» splashed into a tiny teapot, coupled with plastic, picnic shot glasses. A minuscule balcony offers you crowded leg-room only to escape the heat and crowd of this«cool joint». Admittedly there is some nice décor but don’t expect to see it in the dimness or be able to tell anyone about it above the clamor. Only order food if you can balance it on you head. If you’re lucky a sticky patch of the floor will hold you in place against the swell of teenagers, happily paying just to get inside.

Cassette is an Auckland institution, a rite of passage for every young person in this fair city. According to me, there’s no cooler place for a night out than Cassette. Always some edgy alternative stuff being played, it manages to have a hipster vibe without trying too hard. The décor is wonderfully eccentric, yet the place is still chilled out and unpretentious. Also, need I mention that the teapots are in themselves an institution — the classiest possible way to get drunk, and for me the most enjoyable. Perfectly located on Vulcan Lane, Auckland’s most European little street, I can say hand on heart that Cassette is my home for night life.

I don’t think I know anyone who doesn’t like Cassette. And I never get sick of it. It’s quirky enough to be interesting, original without trying too hard, and mainstream enough to draw in a nice mix of punters. Not too snobby, not too scummy — it’s just right. I last checked in for the Laneways after party and it was massive — the Rackets and the Eversons packed the place to capacity and the vibe was totally fun. It’s such a treat to have a venue so dedicated to live music and right in the heart of the city — something that’s more and more of a rarity in Auckland it seems. So teapots at the ready… here’s to Cassette!

Teapots! That’s all I need to say! To be really special, a bar has to have something that sets it aside from the rest and for trusty old Cassette, teapots are that thing! There’s something about pouring shots out of a little glass teapot that makes drinking so much more fun. This place has so many delicious teapot cocktails to try it’s hard to keep track of them all, but many do take the challenge and this usually ends with a mighty migraine the morning after. Well worth it I’d say. The live music and unique atmosphere make for a memorable night.

You just can’t beat the novelty of drinking a cocktail out of a teapot sometimes! Perhaps that’s what keeps me going back to Cassette Number Nine. Or perhaps it’s their wide range of nights, from the cheap drinks and cheesy tunes at Pop Panic on Tuedays to International live acts(Gold Panda, Flosstradamous and DJ Yoda to name a recent few) and great electro and drum ‘n’ bass throughout the rest of the week. Cassette seems to have the perfect balance for being cool enough for locals but enticing enough for backpackers and tourists with what they offer. Which is, essentially, a club with a big enough dancefloor to shake about on, an extensive drinks list(including the aforementioned«world famous teapots») and a comfortable sized smoking terrace. What more could you want from a Friday night?

One word. Teapots. This is perhaps the only club in Auckland where you can feel classy whilst getting drunk off your face. The cocktails come in teapots, and you get a bunch of little shot glasses to share the teapot with your friends. I recommend the Ruby Luby & Purple Rain. I also highly recommend the pizza bread, which is the perfect accompaniment to the drinks. Pinkies out! This place also has some cool décor(including a wall made out of denim, which past drunken patrons have scribbled all over) and cool colour changing lamps. A+++ for character and uniqueness. Going to the bathroom is a little disconcerting, though. It’s filled with pictures of cats!
