This pizza place might be in the middle of suburbia and getting lost taking all the back streets makes for part of the adventure. The pizza is phenomenal! The godfather had the right amount of crust and topping. The sausage, meatballs and pepperoni were delicious. But the highlight was defiantly the crust, my Nonno would be jealous. Well done Chick, loved it!

Literally the best pizza, not in NZ, but anywheeeeere. And I have eaten ALOT of pizza, especially NYC style. My favorites are anything with the homemade sausage or the pepperoni. I also love the Eastside. But everything is good. Chicky also makes bagels on Fridays so it’s worth picking up a few of them as well. You can eat in but it would pay to call ahead and check there are no reservations already as seating is limited. Go there NOW.

This place makes incredible pizza, it’s so authentic and delicious I am really surprised that not many people know about this place. If you don’t know where to go it can be quite hard to find as it isn’t on a main road, it is hidden in the residential backstreets. When you walk in here you instantly feel the vibe, it’s fun and vibrant especially because you can see them making the pizza’s and getting them in and out of the pizza oven. I always choose their plain cheese pizza in the medium size. It’s $ 18 but I would say it’s big enough for three people to share and their large size is big enough for a family of four. It’s classified as plain cheese but it doesn’t taste that way, it’s got delicious rock salt on top as well as fresh garlic, all flavours that work perfectly together. My family and I often come here to grab one of their pizzas to takeaway which we take up to Cornwall Park and enjoy as a picnic as it is only round the corner. If you are a fan of authentic New York pizza you will love this place, it’s the original in Auckland and has been around forever!

Pizza chain Sal’s has been a massive hit in Auckland City, but for those in the know, New York style pizza has been available for quite some time. Tucked in behind Greenlane in a tiny suburb called Oranga sits Epolito’s Pizza, an American owned and operated pizzeria that tastes about as Big Apple as pizza gets. Owner Chicklena is a fourth generation New York Italian who has been making pizza since she was a teenager. Over the years she added many strings to her bow, including business and bread-making(!), and after moving here in the 1990s, she opened Epolito’s Pizza. While the pizzas are named after parts of New York(a practice that makes me cringe ever so slightly), they are so amazingly good that I’m willing to forgo my cringing. The standard pizza varieties — including cheese, pepperoni, meatball — are a sure bet, but the more interesting flavours are what you’re going to want to try. My personal weird favourite is the Eastside — artichokes, lemon and parmesan. Don’t knock it ’til you’ve tried it. Pro-tip with Epolito’s Pizza — when they run out of dough, they close. So get in quick!
