It seems so hard to find good food in Onehunga. We dropped in here on a Friday night. It was like a sauna from the heat from the oven but there were no seats available near the door so we had to put up with it. By the end of the meal it was pretty unbearable though. Perhaps some aircon or fans even would be a good idea. I would not like to visit this café in the summer time! Anyway we ordered the pan fried scallops and the calabria pizza. The scallops came with bacon and a creamy sauce with a small side salad. They were cooked nicely but the sauce was not anything that would blow you away. I would say it was just ok. The pizza unfortunately didnt look very appetising when it was brought to the table. Maybe we ordered a pizza with too many toppings(spicy pepperoni, olives, onion, capsicum and tomato) but the flavours didnt seem to work especially the sliced tomato on the top(???). I would doubt that we will return here again. However the café was busy so maybe this food is just not for me. Also there is BYO so that is always good :-)

Fortuitously we drove past here while on the hunt for Italian food, setting off bells ringing in my head about a great new place fitting that description being around here somewhere. They rejigged things to make a table available for us and the service was charming, chatty and efficient. On a Saturday night around 6.30 the place was full and it seems this neighbourhood eatery is popular with the locals, young and old alike. Our meals were pretty good if not fabulous and for the price there was really nothing to complain about. Two of the little tackers had the Spaghetti Bolognese and cleaned their plates, while I appreciated being able to get the Fettucine without the chicken. Steak for the bloke and penne for the little bloke and everyone was happy. I would really recommend this place and can’t believe it’s been around for three years and I’ve only just found it. It’s BYO too!
