Such an awesome experience for the whole family. I love that its something different to do rather than movies, or ice skating and the kids learn some cool history along the way. Most definitely a must!

Take a step back in time. Beautiful buildings and well looked after. Educational and peaceful just taking in the sights and sounds.

We really had a great day here, it was like stepping back in time to how life was for the early settlers. It is worth more than one visit. We also enjoyed having lunch in the café attached to the place.

Howick Historical Village is an awesome asset to Auckland. Many primary school kids go here for a day of fun and education. I remember our trip here really fondly, and recently went as parent help for my little sister for her day. It’s a wee way out of Auckland CBD but it is worth it. All the kids dress up in old style clothes and when we arrive at this place it makes it look really authentic. We are greeted by lovely staff who are also dressed in traditional dress and they stick with us the whole day. Our group split into two and we spent the day churning butter, learning about New Zealand history and my personal highlight — having a quick lesson in an old-style school, with old style strict teachers. I remember thinking how lucky I was to have the teachers I had and I think my sister and her friends did too! The whole place is decked out with transport, housing, classrooms and stores from yesteryear and it is awesome. On some days there are people waling around like it is an actual functioning town. Watch them go about their daily businesses. It is a really fun day and seriously does make you appreciate the era we live in — although I do envy the simplicity.

Step into another world and enjoy the truly amazing blast from the past that the Howick Historical Village has to offer. Filled with nooks and crannies of all sorts, beautifully decorated tables from the victorian era, stunning old houses, traditional costumes, a café and function centre, it has so much to be in awe of. I’ve also experienced a function at Bell House, which I have to say was truly splendid. Sitting on the porch like you happen to be Anne Shirley or Elizabeth Bennett is a magical experience. The house feels like you could have an old fashioned ball there with someone playing a waltz on the piano. It’s a special place to go.

Howick Historical Village is a superb family day out. Think of it as education disguised as fun for the kids, and fun disguised as education for the adults. Go on a ‘live day’ when people are wandering around in full costume, going about their daily business of spinning, making charcoal, or generally being ye olde villagers. There’s a toy shop, a sweet shop, a school, a church, a waterwheel, and more, as well as a traditional Maori hut and lots of little houses filled with beautiful quilts — all of which you’re free to explore. Don’t miss out on the tea and scones they serve in the café, they’re scrumptious.
