Yet another contender in the plethora of Chinese restaurants in Balmoral, Mountain City boasts some of the nicer premises in the stretch. Colourful walls, tablecloths, 3D pictures of waterfalls on the(orange) walls. It looks a bit weird, but it’s nice that they’ve made the effort, and didn’t fall back on the utilitarian white-on-white-linoleum that so many others have. The staff here are very friendly, and are happy to let you take your time over the menu. As for the food itself: for the most part it was very good. We got a selection of vegetarian and meat dishes, and they were all pretty nice. Our only complaint was their squishy tofu — instead of the firm stuff that most places use, this was some sort of sloppy sludgy stuff that kind of disintegrated into the sauce. Not awful, just not ideal. A warning for all you hipsters migrating from New Flavour or Barilla — they have dumplings, but not vegetarian dumplings. Like most places on Dominion Road it was cheap — about ten bucks each.
