Sheinkin is still a bit like Dizengoff without the trendy Ponsonby crowd. The menu is quite good but the cabinet food is definitely not. I go for the dutch breakfast of sausages and eggs with ciabatta. The pesto is NOT the same as Dizengoff, it’s really garlicky, so not ideal to go with your scrambles. The coffee is not great either but the staff are friendly and interior is still really cool.

I don’t understand all the negative reviews about Sheinkin! They certainly do not do this place any justice. I love this place, in fact since my boyfriend and I first tried this place about 2 years ago, we have been coming here for brunch every Saturday, rain or shine. I love the food here: good serving size, simple but great food and reasonably priced, great bang for your buck. Where else can you get eggs benedicts with bacon for only $ 16.50? I don’t think there is anything on the menu that costs more than $ 20. We bring our friends here to have breakfast/brunch all the time, and they all seem to really enjoy the food. Forgot to mention the coffee is great here as well! My recommendation: — The eggs benedicts for sure! I like how they put decent amount of vegetables on it. — Open chicken sandwich. Delicious sautéed chicken. Love the soft cheese they put in it. — Strawberry pancake with bacon. I never thought strawberry x bacon would go so well together, I think it’s better than banana x bacon. — Caesar salad. The way this dish is presented is very different from the usual Caesar salad. I really like the soft boiled egg and the anchovies you get with it. Delicious salad if you are looking for something lite but tasteful. Give this place a chance, you won’t be disappointed.

This was THE spot maybe 5 years ago. No longer… A few reasons I wouldn’t recommend this place: 1. Serving a long black in a glass. Was too hot to hold/drink and then went cold really quickly. Stop serving coffee in glasses people. It’s rubbish. 2. Vinegar poached eggs. You DONT need to poach eggs in vinegar. They tasted sour and were a horrible squeaky texture. Use fresh eggs… 3. Staff were friendly but certainly not enthusiastic about life. 4. Really dull vibe in here, no music really. It’s a great location and space, just needs some love and a bit more excitement.

A friend of mine used to work on Shortland Street so we came here to try this place out, it was busy but maybe just because people couldn’t be bothered to walk further down. The coffee gets better as you get closer to the water. Anyway, the coffee was disappointing. Food wise the menu was a no go for me, nothing vegan besides the fruit salad or that was capable of being altered to being vegan. My friend had the eggs, I think that the food is standard kiwi café food, boring with very simple tastes. Not for the adventurous palette. I did not like the seating either, metal wobbly tables and uncomfortable chairs, the interiors are important, if you want to enjoy your time somewhere. In fact if the inside was better fitted out, I would have given them an extra star probably. Staff were friendly though, I have to give them that.

ugh this place. I wouldn’t recommend it. I know it always looks full, but I have no idea why! Probably something to do with its décor and central location. I’ll admit the place has a cool vibe about it, and its menu does sound rather exciting… but I was sadly disappointed with the food, I just felt like whoever designed this menu were not really thinking properly. They had mango as a main ingredient for a lamb salad, I shall make it known that when I went, mangos were not in season. WHY would you put something not in season on your menu?! When the salad came out of course it was tinned. Ew. WHY? WHY? WHY?! As you can see, I’m very passionate about this. Any worthwhile chef knows, you use the freshest produce at all times and work with the seasons… I dunno. I’ve lost all faith in this place. Don’t think I’d come back to be honest.

This was my local when I was at Uni as it’s a great central location and a good place to have lunch. Their coffee is soooooo good. Seriously strong to keep you going all day long, and night if you’re a uni student! They also do delicious bagels — my favourite is the chicken and red cabbage one because of the mayonnaise that’s on it! When I started working I’d crave it so would have to make the trip in to get one. The fruit salad is also really good if you’re looking for a healthy option. The interior is a little cold, they’ve definitely gone for the minimalist approach but it’s really nice and sunny if you get a table by the windows. The sun streams in and it’s a perfect place to people watch if you’re nosy like me.

In my first year at university when things got a bit overwhelming or when I just wanted some time to myself I would head down to Sheinkin Café. The place serves the most amazing pancakes ever and a delicious milkshake. I used to indulge in my brunch as I flipped through what looked like a mountain of readings and papers. What I like about Sheinkin is the fact that it is so understated, it has simple chairs and tables. None of that over the top look at us we are hip decoration. It just cuts straight to the point screaming«yo I serve food, would you like to order». The service at Sheinkin is also reliable, the waitresses seem to have been trained on how to handle different customers. They will leave you to it with your breakfast and coffee as most of the people in the café seem like they do not want to be disturbed. It is refreshing to eat at a place where the waitress knows the difference between being friendly and being a pest.
