This is my 3rd time here, breakfast mostly and lunch today. Breakfast was great and it came with an incredible salad! Service was awesome and accommodating. I had the Thai beef salad for lunch and it was good, but a little to oily for me very tasty though. I also had a latte each day I was here and they were great.

It might’ve been because it was our first meal off the plane, but I just loved it. I had a bowl of coffee(YES) and a gigantic egg-sandwich-type breakfast. It was delicious and filling — much more than I expected from a café bright and early on a Sunday morning. I would definitely go back for breakfast.

Just popped into the place for a cup of coffee on a Sunday noon. Seems quiet inside and we just want to relax for 10 to 20 min before continuing doing things around. Only 5 tables are occupied so it should be fast. We order a Chai Latte(I just came to love Chai Latte in NZ) and a piece of cheesecake for me and an orange juice for my boyfriend. We sit at our table. The waitress comes after 5 min with a lovely smile: «English breakfast thee» and she lays a beautiful little porcelain tray with a porcelain cup, a porcelain thee pot and a porcelain milk jar on our table. I look at my boyfriend. He looks back at me. The waitress leaves. We are still looking at each other, confused… I am thinking: Did he order wrong? Was I not clear? Did I understand it wrong? …I have no clue of what he is thinking… haha… Finally I check the thee label: English Breakfast indeed. My boyfriend takes the thee back and explains we ordered a Chai latte. Waitress then puts a face of «Eureka!» and takes the thee to another table(of the only 5 occuppied tables). The orange juice comes well. It’s orange juice. Then my Chai Latte. Then we ask again for the cheesecake, they bring it(I wouldn’t recommend it, by the way, not if you are a cheesecake lover). I guess I made a bad choice with the cake and the waitress maybe had a looong morning behind? The table in front of us is a group of 4 people. They are having lunch and their food seems ok, they seem also happy so, maybe we’ll give it a second chance and come for lunch someday.

Came here for lunch yesterday and was pretty happy with the whole experience. The café is nicely spaced out so you can relax and not be on top of a complete stranger. They had a good range of food on the menu, and I opted for the Thai Beef salad which was priced at $ 15 — a little more than I spend on lunch but was well worth it. It was a generous portion and the beef was complimented by the crispiness of the vegetables and cashew nuts. Really enjoyed it and was quite healthy. I ordered an espresso to finish it off as was feeling a little tired after eating. The espresso took a good ten minutes to arrive but was as good as you would get in Italy. The Asian staff were very friendly and wished me well when I left. Overall, a satifactory experience and would definitely come back here.

contemporary with original artwork. Look at the Chef’s specials — I had their Seafood Chowder at $ 10.50 which contained fresh salmon, mussels, scallops and shrimps in a creamy veloute sauce served with bread. There’s no way that this came out of a packet. A perfect substitute for a sandwhich at lunch time. Also very reasonably priced was their Pumpkin Soup at $ 8.50. The Classic BLT was huge at only $ 15. They have a great selection of teas including Lavender and Cleopatra. Staff were a little too reserved.

This is the first and hopefully last place I have had to lie about being pregnant in order to get my steak cooked to perfection. Crazy, yes but I do like my steak a certain way and if I am paying for it then I should have it my way. I usually avoid ordering steaks when am out to avoid any issues as I do not want to see red or pink on the meat. The meat has to be extremely well done! When I went to Lorne Street Café and Restaurant I ordered the steak and chips and kindly requested that it be extremely well done. When the steak came I took a few bites and wham bang in the middle the meat was pink. I kindly asked the waitress to take it back to the kitchen to which she said there is no need, the pink in the meat adds a bit of flavour. I blinked at her and asked again in a calm voice that I had asked for it to be well done and she continued insisting that it added flavour. When I realised that I either had to lie and finish my steak or I pay for something I did not lie. I decided to lie and when I told the waitress I was pregnant, she took the steak back to the kitchen. When she came back it was nice and well done with a few extra chippies on the side!

There’s nothing surprising on the menu here, it’s more a wide range of standard offerings. I’ve been here for both lunch and breakfast and each time the food was cooked and presented very well. The servings are quite generous and the prices are very reasonable. The seats near the window are the nicest, but the whole place has a tasteful, conservative décor and a pleasant atmosphere. The staff are polite and professional but sometimes there’s an oddness about the service that I can’t quite put my finger on — a little stand-offishness perhaps? Overall, Lorne Street Café and Restaurant offers reliable food and service, and I’ll be back again. Although my top tip would be to head over the road to La Couronne for your coffee — it’s the only thing that lets Lorne Street down.
