Used a grab one voucher to try a new restaurants that has opened where Squid Row used to be. I’m a bit wary of using dining vouchers from Grab One as they tend to be for restaurants that need work in the service department, I’m looking at you Lile Roma Pizza( ) but gratefully this is not that case at the Spotted Pig. Service was prompt, friendly and meals came quickly which was more impressive considering there was a very large group(30+ people) that was dinning at the same time as us. Bar had great wine choices with Wither Hills on tap at a decent price. Our Grab one deal was for two mains and two glasses of house wine or beer all for $ 39. I ordered the Steak that was well cooked with a tasty Jus, simple and yum but like many restaurants was not a very balanced meal with a large amount of mashed potaotes but hardly any other vegs. Others in my group ordered the Bacon Wraped Pork and the Lamb knuckles and there was not complaints from around the table. The deserts where tempting enough that we had to try, I had the Plum Burlee which was delish, served with whole poached plums baked into the bottom of the Burlee and a little crisp shortbread for contrasting texture. Two of my group shared a brownie and I’m not sure if the kitchen gave them an extra large peice or that is how much is generally served but the slice of brownie was very generous. All and all a great place to eat out in Auckland, and I will keep the Spotted Pig in mind for when I am organising a large group of people for dinner.
