Thought we would try this restaurant as a casual place for a quick bite. It was near the Hilton we were staying at, and recommended by the concierge. Our group of five arrived @ 7:30 p and ordered shortly thereafter. At 8:20 p, when we inquired about our entrees, we were told 34 people had ordered ahead of us, and they were getting to us. wtf? When our food finally arrived, a member of our party inquired if they might compensate us for the inconvenience of waiting so long with a free drink. After consulting with the manager, our waiter informed us they could offer a single glass of house wine for the table to share. As for the food, the table ordered a plate of nachos. They were quite good. The nacho chips were thick, crispy, and tasty. They were unlike any nachos I’ve had before. The nacho toppings were more than gooey. They had a thickness that sometimes required a knife and fork to cut. Overall, a very good appetizer. When the main course finally arrived, my medium-rare ordered lamb burger was dry and overdone. By now our party was getting restless to move on with dinner. The error was reported to the waiter, but no effort was made at this point to send any meal back. Our evening was started with a round of drinks. We would have liked to order more rounds, but service was so poor there weren’t any opportunities to order them! We are tourists in a foreign city, so it’s unlikely we would be coming back here again. If you are considering The Waterfront for dinner, though, you can do yourself a favor. DON’T BOTHER.

Cool feel and vibe. Lots of music playing on Friday evening and lots of people out at night.

Well we had the weather on our side for outside dining, but with so many choices we decided on here. The crowds were in, managed to find a prime spot outside on the waterfront. That was the easy part, no get get someones attention. After deciding on what we wanted, the waiter advised us that due to the crowd there was a 45 minute delay. An hour past, and we had to chase him up for our food. When it arrived my wife had opted for salad over fries, fries arrived. They quickly removed the fries, and added a salad. One fry had escape being cast off and was hiding under her meal. Had to ask for clean glasses and a fresh bottle of water. Overall experience was OK, not a place I would frequent, as so much other choices around and paying the tourist dollar too.

I really don’t enjoy coming to Waterfront. At night, that is. I’ve been here for lunch in the daytime and it was pleasant enough — nice waterfront location(heh…), interesting décor, reasonable prices for food and drink. Average service. But at night this place turns into something quite different. It’s very popular for some reason, but I’m not quite sure why. The music isn’t great. It always seemed like there was a puddle of alcohol on the floor — having your feet stick to the floor for the rest of the night is not fun. Crowd seems rowdy and quite sleazy, really(more so than other clubs). Also, I’m not sure if I’m allowed to say this, but it may be better that I say it than others — Waterfront at night is full of Indians. Hey, everyone knows it, everyone thinks it. And it’s true. Not that that matters, really. But it may contribute to the crowding, after all, there are a lot of young indians in Auckland. Myself being one of them.

My last memory of Waterfront Club was on my 18th(long time ago), this was the last club I went to after a night of club hoping and getting my boogie on. To be perfectly honest waterfront was not all that great, the DJ sounded like he was playing music from a cd. The mixture was lacking creativity. The plus side where the drinks, which were reasonably priced. The drinks were the highlight of my night and I hope that the next time I head down to Waterfront the music will be better. I have walked past though on a Saturday night and they is a line outside so it must be someone’s cuppa tea.

Waterfront is a rather nondescript looking establishment for this location — it could just be another bit of the Maritime Museum — it hides itself pretty effectively. For me it’s always one of those places that could be so much better given the location — it’s a good place to come for coffee or a cold one during the day, but you can get better food for the price around here. Not a great fan of Waterfront at night either — average music and an underage crowd.

I’ve been here a couple of times recently, once for a drink after work, and once for lunch on a Sunday. The location is great, the view is great and the outdoor tables, while often needing a wipe, offer a nice sunny outdoor area. The drinks are reasonably priced for the viaduct and the selection is good. The food, however, is average at best, as is the service. With the proliferation of establishments in the vicinity, I’d be having a quiet drink after work here again but eating elsewhere next time.

Blending in almost apologetically in a prominent waterside loaction on Viaduct it’s tricky to work out exactly what ‘Waterfront’ is from the outside. Once you realise that hiding behind planting boxes hides a large but quiet coffee, food, drinks bar. Not as gregarious as the direction competition in Viaduct harbour means I quite often nip in here for a quiet coffee but avoid the expensive food menu. Walk right through to the back for a different perspective on the water. I’m not sure I would try it for a night out but ok for a change of scenery during the day.
