This café is in the heart of Ellerslie, we came here a few times for dinner where they mainly serve pub food. Their ribs and lamb shanks are good and generous portion! However today we are here for lunch! Average food as our poached eggs are little over cooked… not the runny egg york we hoping for, and i must mention I am not a fan of their coffee. Really no coffee taste at all and over fluff… not good at all…

Each surburb lies a best bar to hang out. Union Post is definitely the one for Ellerslie. Renovated from the previous post office, you still touch the mark of the old merging the new. Tin post drawers still keep alive as a symbol. However, mostly act as an icon for this bar. Entering on a cold winter afternoon, greeted by the warm gas fire, with piles of logs by the side, something warm lights up the mood, and also the appetite. Take a glimpse of the environment around, art deco ceiling lamps, vintage mirror walls, rustic chairs all flow in space, making the whole atmosphere with quite a character. Yes, it is named brewery&bar, so beer is essential. Non-alcohol drink also made by the Mac’s, try lemon splash, or ginger beer. Wine list is average. But hey, go for beer! As for someone who is not a beer-holic, Latte is not too bad. They put it right in the transparent glass which is such a relief. As for food, nothing more proper with a pizza pairing a draught, or go with the Nacho. Beef mince with melting cheese and chili sauce to match the nacho, you wouldn’t seek more. Nice waiter will ask you considerately, how much can you handle the hotness, we have rate 5, 8 and 10 here:) What a style. PS: Every Tuesday try the Quiz night. It would be crowded but fun.

This brew bar is a great place to meet up with friends. Plenty of beer for you and your gang to enjoy, and if you need refreshing there are some kiss ass cider flavors to freshen you up. If your friends happen to be super special you can cozy up to them by to fire place. I also found out that they have Pub Quiz on Tuesdays, so I might become a frequent patron.

Another great Unilocal recommendation thank you! Nice Mac beer selection(amber was my favorite) and an extensive and delicious menu. I did like the option of being able to order bar munchies or a full dinner. First night I dined here I ordered a steak and salad and was not disappointed. I ordered medium rare and it arrived as requested. Service was prompt and friendly. Not in the mood for a pint or bottled beer there is a full bar to assist. My hosts planned a happy hour the following night and we ordered appetizers. The chicken bites were great. The pork bites were kind of dry but were excellent to absorb the beer ;^). Love the squid App! All in all a nice local pub to catch a game, have bite, and a bit to drink.

This is a great local pub serving great gastro pub food. I went here with work colleagues for lunch. They have a great $ 14 lunch menu which includes delish salads, burgers and sandwiches. I had the squid salad, great portion size and not stingy on the squid. I had massive food envy when the guys got the snitzchel sandwich. The kumara fries were also a hit. I would totally recommend this place for a bite to eat in your lunch break. I’d let them know if your on a time frame as there can be a wait.

Sunday brunch, food was good and massive servings I thought, great service too. They have a kids club that starts up this month on Sundays between 12−3pm, there is someone available to watch/entertain the little folk, while the big folk enjoy their lunch… ideal.

Place has nose dived, raw chips served and staff disinterested. Service was awful, premium price for sub standard product.

This is one of my locals. The food here is always great and a lot better than you get at other similar pubs. The pizzas are amazing(and 2−4−1 on Monday’s) so I’d recommend getting some of those to share. The main meals are good to and the menu changes regularly. The service is normally pretty good but they get busy so be prepared to go to the bar to order drinks and your food rather than always get table service. Drinks are well priced and pretty standard options available for a Mac’s bar. Tuesday is Quiz night, Wed Mexican night and Fri and Sat nights usually get busy and have a great atmosphere if you’re looking for a big night.

What a pleasant surprise! Came here to watch the All Blacks vs England with a few friends, and it was great! Really good food(I had the fish and chips) with generous portions. Some really nice extra bits in the meals too, like my pomegranate coleslaw. Beer is good, staff are friendly, plenty of seating. Well worth a visit if you’re in the area.

I went into Union Post last Sunday(6 April). I was disappointed with the service. We waited for almost 15mins and no one bothered to take our order. The place wasn’t very busy. We ended up walking out and going to a an Indian Restaurant who took our orders quickly and made us feel welcome.

Such a convenient spot if you live around the corner! With a lively atmosphere, it is always busy, but getting a spot is never too difficult! They have a nice seating area outside which is great, both in summer and winter. Although sitting around the fireplace during winter inside is twice as nice! The menu is reasonably priced and the food is equally nice. I have tried the burgers, ribs and seafood and haven’t had any complaints so far. Service can be slow when it becomes extremely busy. However, I do love their 2 for 1 pizza deals on Mondays!

We frequent here a bit given that it is one of our ‘locals’. Seems to always have enough seating inside and out, even though it can get quite busy in the evenings(especially on Fridays) and they have live music a lot of nights that I’ve been there. There is a great undercover outdoor area with heaters and a fireplace — ideal for smokers or a sunny Sunday session. There is also a big screen that they get out for big games. Is a Mac’s Brewery Bar so in terms of drinks it has what you would expect. Have had mixed experiences with the food, but generally the pizzas and the burgers are pretty good. Thai beef pizza is a strange mix of ingredients but actually really good! Burgers are massive! Generally, it is good value for money. Perfect day or night if you are looking for a pub experience.

This one of my favourite Mac bars. We come here quite a lot with work and a couple of my friends and I came here quite a lot when we had some free vouchers. They’ve got a sweet outdoor part that I much prefer to the inside, because inside they’ve got this huge table, which may be great if you’re having a big group get together, but it makes the bar feel awfully crowded because there just isn’t much space. The food here is spot on, the bruchetta is to die for as is the king prawns. The hot chips come in beer mugs which is cool.

My one and only visit to this bar was midweek, prior to the races the other day. The place seemed to be buzzing, although it wasn’t all that full. I thought that the layout of the bar did wonders for its atmosphere, with a large outdoor area with plenty of seating adjacent to the bar inside. One of the usual problems with outdoor areas in bars is the restricted accessibility, however doors right along the outdoor area prevent this from occurring and ensured easy access. We did not order any food but ladies at a nearby table seemed to be enjoying the lunch of various dishes such as fish n chips and burgers, although the pizza did not look all that appealing, particularly for the price on the menu.

I love going to Mac brew bars! They’re incredibly funky and alternative, Union Post is no exception. As soon as you walk in there is a warm welcoming atmosphere, nice loungers and fire place to the right, outdoor area to the left and big tables in the centre. There is a lot to look at with awesome lamp shade lights and mirrors all over the walls. The staff as very nice and do a great job making sure you have everything you’re after. With a large range of Mac products on tap, including Isaac apple cider, and a wide range of New Zealand made wines, there is a somewhat kiwiana at home feeling about this place. Definitely a bar worth popping into and enjoying a relaxing drink in the many segregated areas.

Union Post is by far the best bar/pub in Ellerslie. Like all the Macs brew bars, the interior is well designed; unique and creative. It was once the Post office(get it?) and there is plenty of space inside. There are two outdoor areas, but they are still partially covered for chilly evenings. It’s good for dinner or lunch; the menu is substantial and has that little bit of creativity to step it up from the usual pub grub. On Mondays they have 2 for 1 pizza and they are scrummy. There’s an interesting mix of punters; after work drinks, family birthdays and the odd stag do, so generally the atmosphere is noisy and fun.

I first came here as we had a meal Grabone voucher, previously it was called The Post — its an old Post Office. Since Mac’s took over and it became Union Post the transformation its just awesome, I love the decoration in this place, the lampshades hanging from the ceiling are so cool. So since my frist visit I have been a number of times. They have low tables and high tables, comfortable sofas, indoor seating and outdoor seating, there is a chair and table for everyone.
They brew their own beer and cider, so you can get big jugs of the stuff, or just a smaller glass to go with your meal, I love the Issac’s Cider best I have tried. I have tried the small plates of Chicken winglets, tiger prawns and squid — all very good, as well as the Chicken breast main dish. The dishes are all very good size, you sure will be satisfied and they often have Pizza and breakfast deals. This really is a wonderful local and it has great atmosphere and friendly service. Its also a child friendly place and have brought my baby here and have seen other babies and children hanging out here as well.
