Hand pulled noodle is my favourite noodle dish. It originated in the Lan Zhou province of China. There used to be a small noodle house down in Christchurch year ago that made excellent renditions of it. So I was over joyed to find such a place in Auckland, right in the middle of CBD no less. The place was extra busy, I waited patiently for my noodle. This was the first time I had to actually yell at the waitress. Because they kept ignoring my bowl of noodle that was sitting on the pass. Once I got my steamy bowl of hand pulled strings. I realised that it resembled the famous Chinese offering somewhat. But after I have taken my first bite. I was hugely disappointed. The original hand pulled noodles are made with a solution containing the ashes from burning a certain grass. And the chemical within is called potassium carbonate. This is the chemical that gives the noodle dough it’s pliable character. What I got at yongs was close in texture to the original yet it felt like miles off also. I m not saying that yongs isn’t good for a cheap eat. It’s great if you just want a bowl of noodles. But if you are a hand pulled noodle aficionado, then you will be disappointed.

Have been here before several times and loved it. Simple, delicious and not heavily priced food. The place is amongst all the other food outlets in the Atrium on Elliot foodcourt. There is plenty of choice here from Thai, Chinese, Indian, Korean etc but this has remained our favourite. On this occasion i had the Braised Pork Chop in Noodle soup and a Chinese burger with pork. The noodles are as the place name says«hand pulled«and for me outstandingly delicious. The meat is tasty too, and as for the burger it is one of the better one’s I have tasted around Auckland. To top it all off the place is cheap, friendly service and the food comes out pretty quick.
