We have made The Black Dog our local for early morning coffees, lunch meetings or weekend catchups. The staff a really friendly and the service is always top notch.
We were on the lookout for somewhere that was casual, serviced great food and coffee and above all else was dog friendly. The ‘friends of the black dog’ photo board inside proved that they are indeed dog friendly (after all its in their name!!!) and they keep little treats behind the counter for well behaved pooches :)

A visit to Matakana Village would not be complete to me, without a stop at Black Dog Café for a silky smooth mocha and a slice.
Neatly located on the main strip of town, and with a great sunny deck out the side of the café; you can soak up the atmosphere of the street as you watch the community and visitors swirl around you.
I like the fact that the owners welcome friendly dogs in, to sit with their owners in the outdoor area while they enjoy a meal.
Friendly staff, and clean cut café style, makes for a well enjoyed visit every time.

The Black Dog Café has one of the best and busiest spots in Matakana. On a Saturday they are pumping, so not surprisingly there is a little bit of a wait on coffee. Once it does arrive though, my iced coffee is really good and seeing how busy they are I’m impressed. We sit in the outside area and enjoy the bustle around us. Despite all the people, there’s still a nice and relaxed weekend feel about the place. I go for the bacon and egg muffin out of the cabinet, which is simple but tasty. There’s a full breakfast menu you can also order from, and looking at the plates licked clean around us, I think that will be my choice next time
