Café Naschkätzchen

This place opens up at 0700, one of the few places around my neighbourhood in the Leopoldstadt district that actually serves breakfast this early. I got myself a good sized Austrian-​style continental breakfast with rolls, butter and jam, cheese, cold cuts, coffee, orange juice, and a soft-​boiled egg. A colleague of mine had the bacon and eggs, which also looked pretty good as well. I saw a bunch of champagne bottles around, which sort of reminds me of a champagne brunch that we have on Sundays at the Ak-​Chin Harrah’s Casino back in my hometown in Arizona (though of course, not as large or extensive). I like the fact that they open this early; it isn’t like you’re going to find an IHOP or Denny’s in Vienna, so I suppose this is a good substitute if you want a decent breakfast at this hour. In addition to breakfast, they also serve sandwiches, light meals, and typical café pastries and cakes. It’s a pretty decent place to go.

Heute war ich in der Taborstraße auf der Suche nach Perlgarn für meine TOchter. Das habe ich am Samstag nachmittags nicht mehr gefunden. Aber ich wollte noch gern einen Kaffee trinken. Und siehe da: Da ist an der Ecke zur Tandelmarktgasse das Café Naschkätzchen. Draußen stand angeschrieben: Schinkenfleckerl mit Salat 3,90 EUro. Das ist doch sehr günstig, dachte ich. Ja, und hier gefiel es mir richtig gut. Ich bekam schnell meinen Mélange und dazu auch ein Glas Wasser, wie es sich gehört, auf dem Caféhaus ist eine große Naschkatze abgebildet, es gibt vorne ein Nichtraucherabteil und hinten ein eben so großes Smoking Area. 2, 70 Euro kostete die Mélange, nicht so billig, aber sehr guter Kaffee und bester Service. Was man unter Szigeti-​Richtlinie versteht weiß ich nicht, hat mich jedenfalls nicht gestört.
