Fett und Zucker

Der Name alleine ist schon schrecklich. Und das zieht sich für mich durch den ganzen Laden.

Da ich bestellt habe, gilt die Bewertung nicht dem Lokal. Bestellt wurden über das Lieferservice Portal Foodora Kuchen und Cookies. Es war sehr lecker, teilweise hat mir aber auch das gewisse Etwas ein wenig gefehlt und auch die Aufmachung der Kuchen könnte man Fantasievoller gestalten! Nichts desto trotz guter Kuchen.

Aber Hallo, wieder mal was neues zufällig entdeckt. Minicaffé in der Hollandstraße. #Kathi P. war auch schon hier — kein Wunder, es gibt ja auch veganen Kuchen ;-)
Wirklich nettes Lokal, das mich in meine alte Heimat Berlin erinnert.

Klein und unscheinbar liegt das Fett-​und-​Zucker-​Paradies im zweiten Bezirk. Der Name ist Programm und man bekommt hier alles, was das geneigte Naschkatzenherz höher schlagen lässt. Es war am Abend auch nicht so start frequentiert, dass man hier ganz in Ruhe sein Stück Kuchen genießen konnte. Warum das Café überhaupt eine Karte hat, ist mir nicht ganz klar, wo es alle paar Zeilen heißt: «hausgemacht, verschiedene Sorten, bitte nachfragen». Nach einem längeren Gespräch mit der netten Dame an der Theke, die uns einmal durch das Tagesprogramm führte, hatten wir uns dann auch bald für diverse Kuchen, hausgemachte (heiße) Limonaden und Schnaps entschieden. Und alles war verboten lecker. Die spartanische Einrichtung gehört hier genauso dazu wie die kleine Auswahl an veganen Leckereien. Alles in allem ein sehr sympathisches Lokal.

The cheese cake is indeed very delicious. I’d rate it ⁸⁄₁₀. Only one I’ve ever eaten scored higher.
Orders have to be placed at the counter! It took quite a while for me to figure that out since I already knew what I wanted beforehand and the sign telling one that isn’t exactly directly in front of one’s face.
The seating is very comfortable if you manage to get one of the soft chairs.
And they have tap water at the ready, self-​serve. Which I appreciate since I’d rather give a big tip than pay for unnecessary bottled water.
I wasn’t really fond of the unisex (that part would’ve been fine) toilets with the lack of privacy (combined with great acoustics, making sure you even hear the rustling of the toilet paper used by the stranger who was sitting right next to you before you went to the toilet and will again once you leave).
Also, I didn’t really appreciate the sassy remark right on the menu about how they don’t give out their recipes.
And the containers for bottled drinks as a seperator for the kitchen looks a bit shabby, as do some of the chairs.
I guess that whole «just suck it up» attitude matches with the overall politics of the place though. I don’t want to get into it too much but it did remind me of a vegan café I frequented in Toronto, where they had a publication that called for an underwear factory to be blown up and men to be killed (those were not jokes…). While I’m not sure whether one could find something quite as despicable here, some of what I saw still seemed questionable to me.
But the cheese cake is very delicious.
(-1 for the toilets and other things I criticized around it, none for the politics.)

Yessss! The best thing about this place is that it feels warm and cozy like you’re back home sneaking treats from mum’s kitchen. You know a dessert place is good when you have to warn yourself to stay away

Zufällig bei einem Spaziergang mit einer Freundin sind wir über das Fett & Zucker gestolpert, und ich hab mir gedacht «ah, es ist eh kalt, kaffee und kuchen sind jetzt genau das richtige» und schon waren wir drin.
Die Vorfreude war dann aber größer als die tatsächliche Freude; als Lokal ist es wohl mittlerweile relativ austauschbar. Die Einrichtung besteht aus altmodischen, zusammengewürfelten Hockern und Sesseln, die Tische haben ein Laminat-​Flair aus den 70ern und die Musik war so unauffällig, dass sie trotz um uns herumsitzenden, schweigend in Ihre Macbooks-​starrenden Kopfhörer-​trägern in den Küchengeräuschen untergegangen ist.
Die Bedienung war da, aber unmotiviert, und noch unmotivierter, als sie fürs unmotiviert sein kein Trinkgeld bekommen hat.
Möglicherweise waren wir nicht das Zielpublikum, aber der Mix aus genervter Bedienung und kalter Atmosphäre im Lokal hat uns dazu gebracht den Kaffee hinunterzukippen und weiter durch die Straßen zu ziehen.
Wenn mal jemand dort vorbeikommt, nehmt euch aber unbedingt die PeanutButter-​Ecke to go mit, weil die ist zum niederknien.
Und falls mir jemand die Alternativ-«Gedichte» an der hinteren Wand erklären kann, wäre ich dankbar.

I believe my expectations were set quite high, since this place was on my list for some time. First immediate realization: I won’t be able to finish my cappuccino because the coffee tastes only burned. Bitter and burned. Someone else would maybe call it extra dark roast. While it might be interesting to offer as a possibility, i wouldn’t dare to serve it as my default coffee. The rum ball that i had was tasteless, except slightly alcoholic. I appreciated very much that it was not too sweet, however, most other signs of taste were missing too. It might have contained some of those substitutes for food, in order to be possible to call it vegan, but that is all just an assumption that went through my head.
Must say I was expecting a bit more charming offer of «zucker», since it is an integral part of what they called the place. However, there were only a few quite ordinary kinds of cake that couldn’t make me lose my head, though they seem to be disappearing quickly. l only wish the «fett» part was implying butter and not some «healthy» margarine. Let’s hope.
However, the place seems to be loved and adored, according to how busy it was on a Sunday afternoon. Just like the other reviews confirm, the partly hipster and partly queer crowd is in love with it. Generally, i love cafes with this improvised flair, and i wish i owned one myself. I just don’t know why i often get disappointed with the offer they have. It should all be «homemade with love» and taste amazing due to that fact alone, but the truth is, i don’t necessarily end up with much to enjoy apart from the cosy ambience. And the nice service, if I’m lucky…(here I was).
…However, the brownie i gave a chance in the end to improve the experience was so good that i shortly considered the fourth star. But then i had another sip of my charcoal coffee. Oh well, I’m kind of sure most cakes here probably are very good, and you can definitely spend some cosy time chatting, but my rather strict coffee-​angle has spoken once again.

So viel Eigenhumor hat 4 Sterne verdient! Was gibt es Ehrlicheres als ein Kuchengeschäft, das mit Fett + Zucker wirbt? Vorbeigehen ist ob der pinken Aufmachung schonmal nicht möglich. Steht man erst einmal im Store, wirkt es wie eine Kombi aus Puppenladen und Buchhandlung. Perfekt für den Kaffeeklatsch am Nachmittag. Was ich empfehlen kann? Brownie und Käsekuchen. Und sonst so ziemlich alles. Nur mit den veganen Varianten hab ich es ganz und gar nicht. Ein Tipp an die Betreiber: Fett und Zucker soll Fett und Zucker bleiben ;)

Fett und Zucker serves different coffees and teas, soft drinks (not your regular coke but a sophisticated variety of local sodas) and a small selection of wine and beers. However you shouldnt come here just for a drink, its a must to sample one (or some.) of their home made cakes!
Today I had the vegan cheese cake with apricot topping. Pretty good try, but being a non-​vegan this could not top a dairy-​based cheese cake… However, this was also one of the options! Lucky me :)
For drinks I tried the Austrian made Poma, soda with apple-​ginger taste (100% natural, 100% Austrian according to the bottle), which was very refreshing!
I will come back to try the other cakes and to enjoy the afternoon sun on their terrace!

Nettes Café im 2., einiges an veganen und nicht veganen Kuchen und wenigen Speisen zur Auswahl! Die Kuchen und Torten waren sehr gut, gemütlicher und überschaubarer Laden mit Wohnzimmer Flair. Großer Pluspunkt für die kinderfreundliche Kellnerin die unaufgefordert der Tochter meiner Freundin Stifte und Papier gebracht hat!

Der Service war nett. Die Getränkeauswahl abwechslungsreich.
Die Kuchen in Ordnung. geschmackllich umgehauen hat uns das leider nicht. Gerade von veganen Speisen, erwarte ich mehr geschmackliche Kreativität. Schade.

Good coffee and cakes! Large selection of vegan alternatives and nice bottles drinks. Not your everyday Viennese café. Very closet interior and friendly staff. Will go back!

Ganz eindeutig — das Fett und Zucker reiht sich nahtlos in die Parade der hervorragenden Wiener Kaffehäuser ein und hat absolut das Zeug dazu, selber zum Klassiker zu werden. Und man muss (soll, kann) natürlich die Ehrlichkeit in der Namensgebung bewundern. Wäre ja wirklich hilfreich, wenn sich das allgemein durchsetzen würde…man wüsste dann immer gleich wo es lang geht und was man zu erwarten hat.
So nach dem Motto:
Aufgetaut und Geschmacklos — Ohne Service und Teuer — ⁰⁸⁄₁₅ aber billig — usw…

Ein alternatives Café mit alternativer Einrichtung und wunderbar köstlichen Kuchen. Ob Apfelstreuselkuchen oder Käsekuchen — Genuß ist sicher! Das alles zu normalen Preisen! Nur weiter so.

Ein großartiges, kleines Café mit toller Getränkeauswahl — hier gibt es zum Beispiel Club Mate und Co. gegen akute Schübe von Berlin-​Sehnsucht. Wenn nichts mehr hilft, hilft garantiert der leckere Kuchen. Noch dazu habe ich hier immer sehr nettes Personal erlebt und mich im Winter sogar zu heißer Schokolade bekehren lassen. Für Veganerinnen und Veganer ist auch etwas dabei, ich erinnere mich an den wunderbaren Apfelkuchen. Beim nächsten Mal hoffe ich auf ein Stück vom veganen Cheese Cake. Ein Ort zum Immerwiederherkommen, am besten mit Freunden und viel Zeit.

Das Fett und Zucker ist ein Stück lockeres Wien, ein Laden, wie man gerne noch einige mehr in der Stadt hätte. Buntes Publikum, vegane Süßigkeiten, gemütliche Ecken, freundliche Bedienung, schönes Leben. Danke dafür!

a fantastic place to eat cake. you have to eat cake if you go there, otherwise you would miss something. you can find a wide range of different cakes and tartes, most of them vegan, some of them also gluten-​free. besides a steady offer there are seasonal types of cakes. ingredients often come from local farms and gardens and are mostly made by the owner of the place herself.
there are not only sweet cakes, also salty varieties, sometimes also salads — also mostly vegan. the cakes come on dishes that are probably older than 20 or 30 years and every dish has its own design. besides the great cakes, you can choose fine lemonades like wostok, or rare beers — but of course you can also get coffee or tea there.
the interior is, like the dishes, inspired by the past and diverse. it’s accessible barrier-​free. during the warm months there are some tables on the sidewalk, so you can also sit outside.

Kuchen im Geschäft gebacken. Sehr lecker. Nehmen sniptaler! Sensationell.
