El Burro

Wirklich lecker.
Wir hatten je Quesadillas, einmal Carnitas und anderes Chicken. Extrem lecker, geschmacklich für mich nicht zu verbessern! Komm auf alle Fälle wieder ;)

Been missing some decent Mexican food after moving here from the west coast. This place delivers great food at student-​friendly prices :) Had a super bomb quesadilla. Will be back again soon.

Das El Burro hat mich leider nicht begeistert. Um fair zu sein schicke ich voraus, dass Burritos und Mexikanisch im Allgemeinen nicht zu meinen Lieblingsspeisen gehören.
Wir waren Mittags (während der Woche) mit einer Gruppe (ca. 8 Personen) dort. Glücklicherweise waren wir die einzigen Gäste — denn es herrschte große Verwirrung: was kann wie miteinander kombiniert werden usw. usf. — da dauert es schon mal 10 – 15 Minuten bis alle ihre Bestellung aufgegeben haben.
Meine Wahl fiel auf eine Bowl (siehe Foto) — frisch und top-​Optik. Die Nachos und die Guacamole waren definitiv das Beste draran. Die Bowl an sich fand’ ich leider etwas zu trocken. Im Großen und Ganzen wars ok, aber das geht noch besser.
Stil und Ambiente finde ich cool.
Preis-​Leistung nicht besonders gut.
So schnell werde ich wohl nicht mehr kommen.

Solid burrito joint. I’ve lived in Southern California and Texas so I know burritos well.
The shop had a Southern California type feel to it. There wasn’t a corporate atmosphere. The staff was young, friendly, and fun. While we were eating one employee came in and said he was going on a coffee run asking his coworkers if they needed anything — he even extended the offer to us! Loved it.
I ate here today (thanksgiving in America). Our host immediately recommended the turkey burrito that was the months specialty. I couldn’t resist. Sweet potatoes, rice, black beans, red cabbage, and cranberry literally all rolled into one. My wife had a burrito bowl because she has a gluten allergy.
I loved the burrito very creative — I may yet go back before I leave the city because I want to see how their more traditional burritos taste.
So for two burritos and two beers it cost us about 23 € and while that may seem expensive keep in mind you are in downtown Vienna. You also get chips for free — they even gave my wife an extra side of sour cream for free which I thought was awesome. You won’t see that at corporate establishments.
I definitely recommend this place if you have the chance and if you like burritos. If I do make it back and they impress me again I will be sure to update!

The atmosphere is awesome, attentive servers, and their quality of food is good! Although I would admit that their burritos aren’t exactly Mexican. More of a spin off, really. I believe there can be a tad less lettuce in the burrito! :) Nonetheless, the chips are delicious!

für mich gibts hierfür die vollen punkte, weil die burritos lecker sind.
allerdings ist das «el burro» für mich kein restaurant, eher mit einem take-​away vergleichbar. ich würde also nicht mit freunden dort essen gehen, da es für mich als klassisches lokal nicht funktioniert.
aber für ein schnelles mittagessen super, gern wieder!

Zweites Mal hier und doch etwas enttäuscht.
Wir waren zu dritt.
Das Essen ist recht gut, aber man ist nicht auf den Ansturm am Sonntag vorbereitet — um 17h waren die Rind– und Huhnoptionen aus. Alle nahmen Schwein mit verschiedenen Saucen. Ich mir noch ein Avocadoeis.
Schlechtes Management, während eines größeren Ansturms noch eher unerfahrene Menschen die Bestellungen entgegennehmen zu lassen. Das Essen wurde uns an den Abholtisch für Takeaway zum vor Ort essen serviert angeboten, obwohl Takeaway geordert wurde und auf Stunden garantiert kein Platz war — ein Fehlurteil im Stress, nicht tragisch.
Dass aber das Essen von dem von uns, der ziemlich böse Schmerzen auf Capsaicin kriegt, trotz gegenteiliger Order mit der extra scharfen Sauce gemacht wurde, das ist so richtig nicht OK. Bezahlen für Gesundheitsgefährdung ist definitiv schon jenseits meiner Toleranzgrenze. Man stelle sich das mal bei einer Allergie vor.
Genau deswegen stellt man nicht «zu Lernzwecken» Unerfahrene nach vorne, wenn eh gerade Stress ist. Ich sehe das als Managementfail, ich hoffe, dass sich hier Angestellte und Managende offen austauschen können statt aus Angst vor Kündigung Überlastung überspielen zu müssen. (Gute Mitarbeit kommt von gutem Training und net aus heiterem Himmel.)
Das Essen ist wirklich solide, die Avocadopaletas –wenig süßes Stieleis — sind genau mein Ding. Ich werde nur in Zukunft bei höherem Andrang wieder umdrehen.

Jedes Mal wenn ich im Schleifmühlgassengrätzel dahinspaziere möchte ich sofort dorthin ziehen, was natürlich auch an der Quantität und Qualität der dortigen Bars, Lokale, Restaurants und anderer leiwander Läden liegt. Seit neuestem gibt es einen neuen Mitbewerber um den Hunger der Wiedener und ganz dem momentanen Trend entsprechend werden hier Burritos und Tacos verkauft. Ich war etwas skeptisch, da die bisherigen Berichte auf Unilocal eher durchschnittlich waren — aber Himmel war das ein leckerer Burrito!
Doch der Reihe nach: der Laden sieht aus, wie trendige Lokale momenten eben aussehen, minimalistisch, einfach, aber trotzdem stylisch. Die Speisekarte ist sehr übersichtlich, was den Bestellvorgang einfach macht. Ich habe mich für den Beef Burrito entschieden mit Sour Crème Soße und das ganze mit scharf. Der Geschmack war wahnsinn, das Fleisch außerirdisch gut, die Bohnen perfekt, ein Tick zu wenig Sour Crème, aber ansonsten einfach grandios. Für mich der beste Burrito in Wien und zu 7,80 Euro preislich auch in Ordnung.

Cool place in a very good location. The tacos were very good and the staff was super friendly.
It’s not a place where you stay for hours but that’s ok. Really good and the pricing is very reasonable too! Defiantly a recommendation for burrito/​taco lovers!

Another burrito place in Vienna! Good news for burrito lovers, such as myself, however I was not overwhelmed by this place. The décor and design is very cool, even if the location is not 100% convenient. It offers outside seating and a take away option.
Down to business… The burrito choice is pretty standard, although they do offer Octopus. Fancy! The filling is pre-​determined so there is no room for customisation, other than the choice of home-​made chilli or salsa. There is no wholewheat burrito which would be a nice choice to have for health-​conscious folk. The burrito is wrapped in thin (typical for Vienna) tinfoil and warmed using a sandwich grill. The problem is the tin foil sticks to the bread and makes the eating experience a pain in the ass. Pricing is pretty high for what you get, too. Haven’t tried the tacos they offer and I don’t think I will.
Lack of customisation and price = 3 stars.

Etwas enttäuschend für meine Begriffe.
Ein weiterer Bobo-​Hipster Laden der sich irgendwie versucht nach Berlin-​Vorbild zu verhalten, jedoch das Bier ist sündhaft teuer (0,33 um € 3,40). Gehts noch?
Wein auf der Karte nicht vorhanden — aber vielleicht wird man im Kühlschrank neben der Bar fündig.
Zwei von uns hatten sich auch etwas zu Essen bestellt, war aber laut Ihnen nicht der Bringer. Ein kleiner Taco-​Teller mit einem Seidal kostet somit € 10, —
Na wer hat, der hat!
Die Schlussunterhaltung mit dem Service war dann irgendwie nett — das ist wohl das Einzige, das den Laden im Kurs hält.

⁴⁄₅ food, ⁵⁄₅ place and atmosphere, ³⁄₅ presentation of burrito, and ²⁄₅ for drinks. I have various in the city and this one definitely wins on taste. But seriously lacking in presentation. Looks like nothing special and the tin on mine basically fused into the tortilla. Note my attached photo was not to make it look bad. I really tried to capture the moment. Buuuutttt there are NO mojitos! Need this asap. Drink selection was very very ho-​hum.
