Yep, this is as good as it gets. This is the bakery and everyday place working business folks and upper and middle class folks go for gourmet Spanish and Puerto Rican specialties. Its a deli, bakery, desert shop, gourmet market, sandwich shop, paella place, and ice cream shop all in one. I got 6 pastries to go late at night and enjoyed each one for days, cost $ 10.

So we’re from LA– meaning we know really good food when we eat it– and all you need to know is 2WORDS — TRESLECHES. Came here for the first time yesterday and we’re back today for another heavenly slice. We’re just sorry we didn’t try this place out on day 1. We’re definitely stopping by EVERYDAY until we leave. The sandwiches are also great, the bag of chips they sell on the counter are very salty, too salty for my taste. And these guys are SO nice !!! One of their employees even had a birthday and an employee went around the café offering slices of FREECAKE after they sang! I’m actually tearing up knowing we won’t be able to enjoy their pastries after we leave. Thank you Armando and staff for the outstanding service ! I will never forget you my dear tres leches…

Been to this bakery before and after the renovations. This is a truly unique spot in Puerto Rico. They offer amazing breakfast and lunch and both are pretty cheap. They have so many imported goodies, like cured hams and exotic cheeses, all right next to a bevy of different confections. Not the place to go if you are on a diet but perfect if you want a quick breakfast with coffee and maybe a cheese pastry after.

I loved this place when I was in Puerto Rico a little bit over priced but food is very good. For those with bad reviews, well I guess you can’t please everyone.

Stop by this joint on the way to the airport. A must stop sandwhich stop while visiting San Juan. I had the cubano sandwhich and the pastrami sandwhich. I will say that the bread is a bit more toasted than fitted for my liking. The meat was flavorful and had a good amount of cheese. The place has numerous pastries at fair prices. A definite must. Make sure to swing by on your way to/from SJU airport.

Great place for breakfast and sweet cravings. Other than that I would not recommend. Pay attention to what they charge you and menu prices. They don’t have a computer system to charge you, so they do it by pen/paper and calculator. My husband was overcharged $ 5 dollars which was giving back to us in pastries. Also he’s scrambled egg plate had a hair. This was quickly fix by the manager. Also it can get overcrowded so check the menu before going since they don’t have menus around only in the counter, then you feel rush to order whatever.

Panadería España, Isla Verde April 28, 2016 Visited this Panaderia twice because of a couple of recommendations from friends and from hotel staff. The Panaderia has been around for years and I really wanted to try it. Parking is super limited; the interior is bright with many food options. At the far counter is where you order breakfast and or lunch. The Panaderia serves dinner as well. Once at the counter, you order, you pay, you sit and wait for your order number to be called. We only had breakfast and it was awesome … a bit pricey but really good. During one of our visits, I decided to order some pastries and unfortunately customer service lacks in the island. The staff noticed me waiting and continued their conversation as if I wasn’t there. After I waited for a bit, I decided to speak up and reluctantly a young guy took my order. It was an ok experience, the food was tasty and the portion was big. During our first visit, we paid $ 25 for two breakfast of scrambled eggs, toast, coffee, freshly squeezed orange juice and a kola champagne. Would we go again? Yessssssss!

So… just a word of caution… the menu was in Spanish. So if you want to practice your habla Español…try this spot. The cases of pastries shout to you. We gave in to what was their special… guava filled flaky and great. They had tons of sandwiches and cases of hot and cold food. The place was great. We had 2 Cuban sandwiches. It was a panic order that panned out well. Place is near the airport so stop on your way out for a pastry!

If you can’t find something in this place — you just need to give it up and start eating out of a can because you have issues /they have a little bit of everything, soup sandwiches, rotisserie chicken, seafood, sweets(if you have a sweet tooth, you may want to call your dentist and ask for permission to go) lots of sweets, Spanish food, etc /good kick ass coffee — fresh, lots of people so nothing sits around for long — I visit PR about six times a year for work and I always stop here at least 2 or three times — it’s nothing fancy but it has character /the locals sit on the left when you walk in and the tourists — yeah I called you a tourist, sit with the general population — friendly, patient staff //when you order, look at all the food then go to any one standing behind the counter and just tell them what you want — don’t be shy

This place was the place to be. It was near our airbnb, and we ended up coming every day. Why? Because it had everything we needed: coffee for less than $ 2, empanadas, breakfast, and pastries of all kinds, including marzipan goodies, cakes, breads, buns, etc. It was filled with locals, and while the quality of the food was OK(people liked the cubano sandwiches which I thought were just average, and I got the omelette and it was just alright) it was good enough to be a morning stop that we looked forward to.

Great sandwiches, although the Cuban is pork-heavy and can be a bit dry. Pastrami is better. Soups are great and come with slices of garlic bread. Fantastic empanadas. We also got a box of baked goods for breakfast to go – the guava/cream cheese danish was particularly good. Coffee is out of this world good!

Similar setup as Kalsata. Typical Spanish coffee/lunch place sets in PR. Café con Leche is good, Cubano sandwich is stuffed with ham and piled high. The menu choice are rather limited compare to the other similar establishment. Pastries are descent however their ham croquettes although has good flavor but sitting in the warmer for too long hence become very dry.

When you are in a new place — ask the locals for recommendations. This place was recommended by the lady at the Enterprise car rental at the airport. So at 6.30am this was our first stop in PR. The place was bustling with the locals gathered at what seemed to be part of their daily routine. We seemed to be the only tourists but we felt welcomed. It was busy so be prepared to wait a few minutes for the freshly made great food. We had what seemed to be their signature toast with queso, eggs with ham and cheese, a chicken pressed sandwich, oatmeal, coffee, OJ, hot chocolate. Everything was exceptional, I had to have another coffee because it was soooo good! It clearly puts Starbucks to shame! We also got some fresh baked pastries for later. Will definitely be back to this place in the next few days.

We ordered thanksgiving turkey here along with a key lime pie, pumpkin pie, and a few pastries. The turkey was really good! Not super hot as expected but pretty moist and tasty. The key lime pie everyone raved about. My father in law said it was the best he’s ever had!(That’s a big deal). The pumpkin pie here was ok, we’ve liked Costco’s better in the past. It had to much nutmeg and cinnamon in it. Everyone really liked the stuffing, it had almonds, raisins, garbanzo beans,(they said ham was in it) it was different but everyone liked it! Good pastries, I really liked an almond raspberry tart. Overall really great place! Busy, on weekends! And way better then Kasalta!

Not far from SJU is an air conditioned bakery heaven. Parking, good luck. Pastries, absolutely delicious. Sandwiches, tasty. Paella, not for everyone. If you’re on your way to Condado or Old San Juan or if you are in the Carolina or Isla Verde area, you should grab some quick eats here. I’ve found Puerto Rican food, mostly the stews and rice dishes, not to my personal liking. And perhaps that’s why I found the pre-made selection of hot foods here were just short of tasting like(bad) cafeteria food. The cold service, mainly ceviche style, isn’t something to rave about either, it’s ok.(You’re better off going to The Ceviche House, just down the street, for Peruvian style ceviche that has a better selection and priced similarly.) Also, the paella, which looks tasty, is an overdone mixture of rubbery seafood and gummy rice, all salted heavily. This is not the Spanish paella you’re probably used to if you’ve frequented many Spanish restaurants, but seems to be popular here with the locals. Again, I personally would avoid any of the hot and cold deli items. But pre-made deli items aside, their sandwiches, pastries and desserts really shine on their own. If you have been to the famous Cuban bakery chain in SoCal, Porto’s, you’ll find some similarities, especially in their Cuban, media noche sandwiches, quesitos and pastilla de guava. However, the cream cheese pastries here are on a different level of deliciousness, the sandwiches are on the same level. It’s probably a good thing that the items here are priced pretty steep, otherwise you’d see a lot of gordos in the area. Last notes, do not confuse cheese roll with cheese ball. The cheese rolls are the delectable, sticky, warm pastries filled with a sweet cream cheese called quesitos. The cheese balls which look like potato balls(sorry another reference to Porto’s bakery,) are inedible with an overly processed unmeltable strange cheese. As tempting as it is to eat a fried, cheese ball, these are no bueno. Stick with the quesitos, my amigos.

The España is a stop every time we visit Puerto Rico. The restaurant has a clean contemporary interior, but parking is a challenge due to the popularity. The have an outstanding Media Noche, and great Lechon Asado.(See pic). There is a great selection of seafood ceviches, and I partook of the Octopus salad. The coffees are also very good using a Puerto Rican bean. Save some room for desert as the pastries are outstanding! A classic is the Quesito if you have room, but there are many selections. Definitely Worth the wait if you are close to this spot.

Ever since I have any memory of Baldorioti de Castro avenue in Isla Verde, PR I remember seeing Panaderia Espana. It took me 54 and an invitation from my step brother to try it out. I think it is a great place for pastries, breakfast and lunch but I found it a bit overpriced. Unfortunately they also lost my order so I had an unusual wait for my meal. The food? How can anyone go wrong with scrambled eggs, bacon, toast and coffee? Since it is easily accessible from the Baldorioty de Castro avenue I’ll probably stop there on my way to the airport.

We wanted to grab a quick bite to eat on the way to the airport, and this was the perfect place to do it. This spot is only 2 or 3 minutes away from the airport so it’s a great spot for a quick bite. There are tons of options here. A variety of cakes and pastries, as well as fresh breakfast sandwiches and lunch meat. I had scrambled eggs, with a Cuban sandwich. It was amazing. We also ordered a variety of desserts — fruit tarts, eclairs, flan, and doughnuts. All tasted very fresh and helped us start the morning off right! The two egg breakfast was served with bacon and 3 pieces of toast. It was pretty good, and we left there spending hardly any money at all. The Cuban sandwich was delicious and it left me wanting another one. They also serve coffee which didn’t suck either. Overall, this place is really really good. Tons of Variety and delicious desserts. If you are looking for a quick bite and some great sweets, this is definitely the place to go.

Want to get away from the craziness for a little and enjoy a delicious meal in a clean little join that stays true to it’s roots? Come here. The pastries are on point. Their sandwiches are amazing. We had the Cuban. There was more meat on the sand which than three normal Cubans at other spots we had gone to. I would recommend this spot to anyone. We enjoyed how close it was to the airport so we could have a full meal and make it to our flight on time. :)
