Restaurant Le Mazot

A hidden gem in Vevey! This is an amazing little restaurant with only one waitress but she knows her stuff and can give great recommendations! Definitely would come back here again!

Le Mazot nous a semblé une adresse sympa, relookée façon chalet, où faire un repas copieux centré sur les plats au fromages. Il né faut pas s’attendre à une merveille de gastronomie raffinée et recherchée, mais le restaurant est très bien situé au centre de Berne, et reste correct sur les prix.

Das Walliser Restaurant sieht von Aussen recht verstaubt aus, drinnen ist es nicht viel besser, aber wer auf leckere Käseschnitte steht, Rösti, Fondue oder Raclette, wer sich wie ein Tourist fühlen will oder wer mitten in der Stadt ein einfacher Landgasthof besuchen will, der ist im Le Mazot genau richtig.
Übrigens gibts die grossen Portionen zu wirklich günstigen Preisen. –Es hat Spass gemacht.

This restaurant is OK for celiacs or if Gluten-​Free is required. The Roesti are good, here, but not great. Potatoes were not reliably crisp; gorgonzola-​with-​pears was OK, but gorgonzola was a bit gritty and pears seemed like canned pears not fresh, so the texture was just not great. Green salad — if you like lettuce with your sauce, great — if you don’t want a lot of sauce, ask for sauce on the side!!! Partner had the Roesti Tessinois, cheddar-​based, an enourmous amount of cheese. Menus are in German, French, and English. Other times I’ve been here I had other Roesti, same results. OK for a chilly night; also nice that they offer «½ portions», although the prices are only a few CHF less than full portions (bring friends, order full portions, & share!). 2ppl, salad, gulash soup (NOT GF), 1 full sized roesti, 1 small roesti, 1 water: 60 CHF.

Ein uriges und gemütliches Ambiente! Das Personal ist leider sehr unfreundlich und wortkarg! Der Nüsslisalat als Vorspeise war weniger als Mittelmäßig, die Croutons weich und der Speck kalt! Die bestellte Gulasch Suppe war definitiv nicht frisch und aus der Dose!
Als Hauptgang haben wir Rösti bestellt, es wurde nett angerichtet, war reichhaltig und dem Preis entsprechend, aber nichts besonderes!

. After a long day, my friend and I wandered around storybook Bern looking for a place to have the perfect meal. What a surprise — I had my most memorable meal in Swtizerland! The rösti was perfect, covered with melted cheese and a hint of freshly cracked pepper. I tasted some of my friend’s rösti with sausage in onion sauce — delicious! There was a farmer’s market in the square, and lots of street vendors, the clock tower is immediately outside. I looked for such a place in Luzern and Interlaken (didn’t even bother to try in Geneva), and I have been disappointed.

After a fun filled day of cheese and chocolates, we headed to Bern to get rösti for dinner. The place we stopped by initially was just way too expensive (Altestramdepot) and also didn’t have rösti. We then meandered the streets of Bern at night. I must say, it is a pretty sight at night. Probably one of the prettiest we saw during the night time. There was one main street which adorn in lights and stores where there was a river or water way running through the center. The stores were closed, but there were cellar doors on street level which made me believe if you were a little more curious than us, you’d see that some places were open (ie bars, cafes, or restaurants). All the menus for restaurants were so pricey (ranging from 19 – 60 CHF). We thought we’d have to eat McDonalds, until we saw the Bundesplatz and headed toward it. We then saw this place in an alleyway to the building and what do you know! A whole rösti menu and at reasonable prices (all under 15 CHF). The place was very warm both temperature and ambiance though the staff wasn’t so much. It was a nice escape from the coldness outside. We ordered a rösti with raw ham, tomatoes, cheese and oregano as well as a portion of raclette which came with potatoes and onions. It was so good. I think the cheese on the rösti was raclette, but who cares! They both hit the spot. We washed it down with tea as beer probably wouldn’t have been the best thing to drink (both of us were dehydrated and also needed to survive the drive back to Geneva). It was weird to hear German as opposed to French as that has been what I was hearing all this time. Also on the drive up the exits started saying Ausfahrt and of course I chuckled.
Overall the place was great. The prices were super reasonable and the food hit the spot. If you like beer, potatoes, and cheese, you’re at the right place and also in the heart of Bern!

Das Le Mazot ist tradionell eingerichtet. Wir waren unter der Woche zu Mittagszeit da. Das Restaurant war bis auf wenige Plätze voll. An diesem Tag fand auch eine internationale Konferenz im Bundeshaus und viele der Teilnehmer waren da anwesend. Die Bedienung ist schnell und freundlich. Wir hatten zur Vorspeise eine Kürbissuppe. Diese war frisch zubereitet (was man sofort bemerkte) und sehr lecker. Wir erhielten eine sehr grosse Portion der Suppe und konnten dann nicht allles vom Hauptgericht essen. Zum Hauptgericht haben wir ein Rösti Oberlandais bestellt. Dieses war auch fein, nur fehlte uns hier ein bisschen ein Geschmack, worauf wir Pfeffer dazugeben mussten. Nur hier ein Punkt Abzug. Aber ansonsten alles perfekt! Kann daher dieses Restaurant nur weiterempfehlen!

also known as the walliserstübli. it’s a cozy place with outside space.
the food is pretty cheap and you get a lot. the rösti is quite good, the salad pretty fresh during primetime and the wine are local to wallis.
all in all a nice place to take visitors to.
