My stomach is still reeling and my mind still blowing from the enormous entrecôte(ribeye steak) and melt-in-your-mouth cheesecake I had tonight. It is very rare for me to order steak at a restaurant, but I wanted to try the famed Genevoise entrecôte before leaving Switzerland, and I was not disappointed. The two huge slabs of pink-centered meat(I got mine medium) come with sauteed artichokes. Upon first bite, an emphatic«WOW» escaped my lips, and I felt an urge to reach over and try my dinner-mate’s sauteed artichokes to see if it was a fluke that mine had turned out so tasty. The steak also comes with shoestring fries, which were equally impressive, with just the right amount of seasoning and thickness(or thinness, rather), to complement the steak without seeming excessively burdensome. I also got to sample a dining-mate’s broad-bean and asparagus risotto, which was extremely subtle and not heavy like risottos often tend to be. You get a hint of flavor at first, but the aroma travels up to your nose inside of your mouth, and you’re left with this lingering aroma of raclette cheese in your mouth. Despite the torturously good and plentiful food, it was a dining-mate’s birthday and we had to have dessert. We shared a chocolate fondant and a slice of cheesecake between the four of us. I silently winced at the suggestion of cheesecake as I didn’t trust Geneva to do it well, but my first bite was met with another round of exclamations and expletives as I sat face to face with what may very well be the best cheese cake I’ve had. The graham crust was spotted with pieces of chocolate, and the filling was almost like a mousse, so light and fluffy I could have sworn it was devoid of calories. It actually tasted of cheese, and wasn’t overly sweet. Pure bliss Standard nice-restaurant-prices at CHF28 for the risotto, CHF39 for the entrecôte, and CHF57 for one of the best red wines we’ve had so far, but actually quite a deal considering that a take-away pad thai from a food court at Globus is at least CHF22.

Went for Saturday lunch and went rather early at 12.00. We seat upstairs as they told us downstairs was either booked of for more than 2, and were nearly alone. By the time we left there more people both upstaires and downstairs. We had a ‘Club Sandwich de luxe’(according to the menu), with fries. It was good, although for my taste there was something missing, mainly salt both in the fries and salad and probably some tasty sauce in the club. I then took 3 crèmes brulées, one was pistachio, one orange and one I don’t remember. Not worth the calories and the price, they were too thick and tasteless. I had been to this place a year or more ago and again the deserts looked appealing in the menu, but much less when tasted. One thing I really love about the Soupçon is the place is it’s ‘décor’.
