The cable car might be expensive but the views are worth it! The Schilthorn restaurant was the first revolving restaurant built in the world and was used in the James Bond film On Her Majesty’s Secret Service which is why there is a bond museum a few falls below. The film company actually helped finance finishing the restaurant and cable cars which give us the best views of the region today! From outside the restaurant, you can see the Eiger, Jungfrau and Monch mountains. It’s spectacular! The cloud can clear or come quite quickly so prepare to be cold and bring layers and waterproof clothing. If you are a keen hiker there are routes down as long as you have good shoes on — there are signs saying no high heels! We went into the restaurant for a drink — hot chocolate — but their menu was pretty good so we decided to have lunch here too. The wine I had wasn’t the best but drinkable — I have added photos of the menus. We had the trio of game with red cabbage and homemade spatzli and it was as good as I hoped. It’s a bit pricier than Lauterbrunnen town but this is Switzerland and a themed, first revolving restaurant so I did not mind paying 8 euros more for the view. There is also a buffet option. It’s a good place to warm up before the hike or cable car ride back down. Menus available in at least German, English, Chinese and probably Japanese as well.

Schilthorn/Piz Gloria was one of our final destinations on our trip to Switzerland and it was awesome! We traveled from the little town of Grindelwald and it took us a little more than two hours between trains, buses, and gondolas to finally make it to the top of this mountain. Tip: if you’re going to be doing a lot of traveling, consider purchasing the Sport Pass. It’s a little pricey, but overall it’s worth it because you can use pretty much all the transportation available for x number of days for a flat cost. Seriously, we saved so much money and got to travel everywhere we wanted to go. Once we made it to the top, we took in the views of everything around us. On a clear day you can see for miles and miles. It is gorgeous and an absolute must if you’re traveling to the area. We had lunch reservations at the rotating restaurant, but half of our group was over an hour late since they were trying to ski their way over from where we were staying(it took them almost 3.5 hours to get to Schilthorn). The restaurant was not happy which I completely understand. You’re on the top of a mountain with only one restaurant, so be prepared to spend some money. Since we were in Bond-land, of course I had to try a James Bond Martini.(I still don’t like martinis, by the way.) For lunch I got the Alpine pasta while my boyfriend got the cordon bleu. The pasta was dry and salty — I had total lunch envy with the cordon bleu, which was delicious. Service was spotty, but I can understand since the servers were running all over the place in a restaurant that’s probably packed with people from open to close daily. If you’re in the area, you pretty much have to go to Schilthorn/Piz Gloria. It’s a pricey adventure, but totally worth it!

One of the best places I can think of to have breakfast! It’s expensive to get to in the cable car, and the cloud can quickly close in on the place but, when the sky is clear, the views from the revolving restaurant are superb. Once you’re up there, there isn’t a huge amount to do; A viewing platform, the restaurant and, if you’re up to it, a very enjoyable walk back down. The breakfast trip offers a decent saving over other times of the day.

Way up in the clouds in the Swiss Alps Shilthorn is situated as an observation area for the surrounding Swiss alps. The site is 10,000 feet up or if you prefer 3765 meters high. Often the mountains are engulfed in clouds hidden from view. If you wait long enough some of the clouds drift away exposing nature at its most spectacular and magnificent. On occasion the clouds burn off exposing all the mountains glory. The site was used for a James Bond movie and contains a museum of sorts dedicated to Agent 007. There are pictures, movie clips and a few static exhibits to enjoy. There is also a restaurant serving breakfast and lunch items at, as you might have guessed, sky high prices. Also included is a souvenir shop with many things to choose from. Bring sunglasses.

Go broke or die trying… At least that’s what I thought when I set foot in Switzerland. It’s got beautiful mountain peaks, easy on the eyes, easily accessible, and not so easy on the wallet. Getting up to this rotating restaurant with a view will sink you down 80 Euros or so. This restaurant rotates so often but not with a 360 degree view. One of the 007 Movie was filmed here and one I haven’t actually seen and with a relatively unknown actor. James Bond = Sean Connery… Period. The food wasn’t bad but considering the price of the gondola ride to get up here, it should have been better… you know, at least dupe me into thinking it’s gourmet. But for what it’s worth, It’s damn gorgeous view up here and I didn’t have to schlep 24 Kilos of backpacking gear like I have to back home in the Eastern Sierras :)

The costs of getting up there might make few people think twice but once you get to the top and see the panoramic views, you will realize it was all worth the $$$. I highly suggest going up in AM and having breakfast there. Wait for the skies to clear up a bit so you photographers can go nuts! It is a 30+ minute Gondola Ride all the way up to top and you have to change few times. Once you have had a fill on the top, take the trail back down instead of Gondola. Its about 2 – 3 hours walk. If that seems too much then, come down to Murren and walk down from there. The souvenir shops at the top are expensive. Dress up warm since you will be coming across some chilly winds on the top. I left my hat back at the hotel and had to cough up 40 Euros. Personally, this was a better experience than Jungfrau because you can actually see thru the clear skies and its a 360 view as opposed to one direction up at Jungfrau.

After factoring in the cost of getting to the top of the mountain, along with the cost of the meal, this is probably the most expensive breakfast we have ever eaten. And it was worth every penny. How many times in your life do you get to start your morning with three gondola rides and a train ride high up into the Swiss Alps to lounge in the former lair of a James Bond villain while it slowly rotates to give you 360-views of some of the most beautiful mountains in the world? It’s really quite an experience. Also, the food in the breakfast buffet is surprisingly good! My favorite part was the plain yogurt topped with lots of black cherry compote… SOGOOD! The breakfast buffet is AYCE and includes drinks and champagne, but what you are really paying for are those amazing views. And they are, totally, amazing. After filling up on a big healthy breakfast, I recommend you get back down the mountain on your own. The trail starts at the Schilthorn, but it is pretty tricky going for the first bit off the ridge, so if you are traveling with kids(like us), I recommend taking the gondola back down one station to Birg, and you can start your hike from there. Early morning gondola fares are a bit cheaper, and there is a special package deal for morning transportation to the Schilthorn including the breakfast buffet. Kids under six are totally free, both on the gondolas and for breakfast. Even with these cost-saving measures, though, you’re going to spend a lot of money… just close your eyes, hand over your credit card, and know that it is worth it. Of our entire trip through Europe, «Eating at the spinning restaurant on top of the mountain» was our daughter’s favorite experience.

Meinen Vorschreibern ist absolut Recht zu geben. Danke SKL1.

This restaurant ist extraordinary. Not because of the food, unfortunately this is mor on a mediocre level. But the view is not comparable to anything else. But you need to check the weather before, or you are sitting in thick clouds.

The drawcard of any revolving restaurant is the view and not the food, and this place is no exception. The views are amazing and worth sitting in the restaurant for a couple of hours, and the food is an excuse not to get kicked out. The food we had was overpriced and nothing special but you kinda expect that. The Schilthorn is a huge tourist trap so there can be a crush for space as other tour groups join you.
