This restaurant offers very nice French menus, such as mussels which are very delicious. I went for the entrecôte, which comes with fries and ‘café de Paris’. It was very nice, but rather a small portion. The prices are above average, however it’s normal for this area. Service was good, but not special though. Probably as this place is rather busy. Highly recommended to make a reservation.

We enjoyed this place and had excellent service. It was not busy. We both had escargot and a veal shank(it was a daily special). We both enjoyed it.

A pretty good place to eat among the many tourist traps in the Niederdorf neighborhood of Zurich’s Old Town. This French brasserie offers staples like Coq au Vin and Beef Tartare. They also have all-you-can eat mussles that are nice and fresh. I can personally reccomend the French Onion Soup and Club Sandwich. Both quite good. Oh, and the Crem Brûlée is delicious(and one of my favorite desserts ever). The ambiance is sexily black&white and they also have a smoking lounge upstairs and a take away place on the street for a tasty Croque Monsieur(very French!).

We really enjoyed this place. Yes, the service was a bit slow, but I don’t understand why people allow service to make such a big impact on their dining experience. The décor is inviting and decidedly French. My sirloin steak was prepared to order and covered in a delicious béarnaise. The oysters were big & fresh. The wine list was on point. I had a glass of bordeaux which was reasonably priced and delicious. The chocolate moelleux made for an excellent dessert. As the icing on the cake, so to speak, my date was happy that they offered an indoor smoker’s bar upstairs(as you might be able to imagine without much difficulty, it’s slightly chilly in Zurich in December).

This was the first place my wife and I went to during our first visit to Zurich and we loved it. I introduced her to fettuccine cabonara for the first time and Brasserie Louis did a great job preparing this difficult dish. Everything else was very good and we can’t wait to go back. Great job!

3.5 stars! We had the take away here. Baguette sandwiches are amazingly good… Especially after a night of drinking. This place was open late on a Sunday, so we grabbed some pomme frites and sandwiches. Hot grilled meat with creamy sauce, lettuce, tomatoes, all on a crunchy French baguette. The pommes frites were perfect texture and so satisfying. Poulet sandwich was delicious and the original was so good husband made us go back again the next day for another! for what it is, a great quick meal or after drinking munchie. Yummilicious factor –A–

Dinner in Zurich can be a real challenge: how do you find good food that won’t break your bank? Well, quite by accident, Louis did the trick for us on our first night in town. You can dine well and relatively cheaply if you order from the bar menu. And if you’re a non-smoker, choose inside seating rather than the tables outside. The windows are wide open in the summer, you’re not missing much of the action. You can see the funny cow on the balcony of the Hotel Adler across the street and discuss the artwork. But I digress. Dinner and drinks were fine; we got asparagus(it was in season, all kinds of specials) and a veggie crêpe, plus wine and then coffee. The food came out rather slowly, but not too slowly. Service was friendly, albeit a tad loose. No one rushed us and we felt taken care of. We like dit.

A french style restaurant in Niederdorf !!! As I am a big fan of french cuisine I was a bit disappointed by this place. The service is slow(OK that is maybe a french way of doing it, but still not nice :)), Took the wrong orders and was not especially very helpful. The food was really mediocre, the french fries where not well baked. The mussels were half warm, half cold and the tartare is from far the best in Zurich. You can find better french food in Zurich. The interior is nicely done. But I would have been an interior architect I would have given it a more authentic feeling(it looks a bit to fake for me). As I was disappointed by the quality of the food, I found the place a bit expensive.

Avoid this tourist trap on the touristy Niederdorfstrasse. It looks nice from the outside and inside — a classic French brasserie as one would imagine. The menu is broad and even includes a burger which is what made it friendly for my children. The wine list was fine. However, I ordered the coq au vin which to my disgust was steamed chicken with a horrible brown sauce poured over it. I started to feel nauseous within minutes of finishing my meal. ‘Nuff said.

Louis looks like an early to mid-century French/New York upscale diner — or shall I say ‘Brasserie,’ since that is, in fact, what they call themselves — with a wood interior and white marble bar and a brown and white tiled floor. The menu is very French with the exception of the ubiquitous Zürcher Geschnetzeltes. It includes quiche, coq au vin, croque monsieur, bouillabaisse as well as beef tartar and even oysters. Unfortunately, they only offer one type and size of oyster, ‘fin de claires’ no. 2, and they’re not cheap for their size! 6 for CHF24. Most restaurants sell the same variety(fin de claires). Why can’t anybody offer anything other than these and maybe ‘special de claires’? Okay, Switzerland isn’t a shellfish-eating society, so I suppose the demand just isn’t there. But why not create it by offering new and exciting options and marketing them. Oh well… The ‘tartar royale’ for two is 70CHF!!! Definitely over-priced. Yes, you get 350 grams of standard Swiss ketchup mince(yes the Swiss put ketchup in their raw beef tartar) but even the accompaniments such as caper berries, hot chilis, shallots and olives don’t compensate for this hefty price tag. Cocktails are good, but over-priced, for their volume. I guess the prices reflect the location on Niederdrofstrasse and the fact that it’s a highly-frequented tourist area. For that reason though, it’s a great place to sit outside and people watch. Service wasn’t spectacular, but not as bad as it typically could be. My food came before my drink. Apparently they forgot it until I mentioned it. I don’t necessarily need to come back, since I think, for seafood in a French setting, you get a better variety and better value at Brasserie Lipp. I did notice that they offer a bar menu, something very hard to find in Switzerland. It’s very common in the US and Spain or France to order dinner and drinks and to stay at the bar. I will most likely be back to give the bar menu a shot… And maybe take one too!
