This is one of those few touristy places/restaurants where I would take friends from abroad. Mainly because of the enviroment and atmosphere. Otherwise ratio price/quality is not so good because you can get the same or even higher quality for less somewhere else. Their beers are slightly different from what you get in other pubs but they are still good. Meals are very good and service usually too. It´s a good place for bigger groups. It´s nice especially in summer when you can sit outside.

I visited this place multiple times and I have always had a good experience. The cuisine is rather good and the beer even better. I think that everyone who visits this place should definitely taste it. The location is also wonderful — the scenery of Strahov monastery is stunning. The only drawback might be that recently the place has been always crowded and therefore noisy as well. So if you’re thinking about visiting you should get a reservation.

Great beers. All are on tap and made there in the Abby. Talk about historic. In Prague, it’s ok to have an open container in public, so my guide for the day and I took one to go as we strolled down to the lesser town. Well worth the effort.

Our Segway guide recommend we come up to the brewery after our tour when we asked about getting a good beer and some tasty food to warm us up on this cold, dreary day. We sat outside under the heat lamps(blanket also provided). Staff is friendly and they all help each other to attend to the guests. Hubby initially got the dark beer and then changed to my choice(amber), as it was more flavorful. We had goulash in a bread bowl, sausage, and rabbit for lunch. Hubby thought the bacon around the rabbit was a little too gamey. Was a very lively place with lots of people.

Had the goose liver, wings, chicken soup, and a few beers here on a cold winter’s day. Everything came promptly, and everything was A-Ok. The food is nothing special, and the beers were good. We stumbled upon this place while walking around the castle.

We loved our stop here. This was the best beer we had in Prague. We ordered the goulash soup, the onion soup and a cheese plate and all was excellent. I ordered the Amber and it was fragrant and crisp, not bitter. My BF had the IPA, it was also wonderfully floral and the bitterness was not overwhelming. English was no issue here and i definitely recommend this as a stop before or after Prague Castle.

I really wish that my Unilocal hiatus was suspended by something positive. Unfortunately this was not the case for this restaurant. We arrived with high hopes for being blown away by amazing Czech food and beers that most reviews here have indicated. Instead, we had less than satisfactory foods and mediocre beer. While the bread basket and the goulash were acceptable, cold, stringy and extremely dry pork ribs arrived 10 mins before the rest of the entrees. This was followed by Flamendr(described on the menu as a spicy mix of beef, pork, and chicken) which we found to be very lackluster and one note. The meat pieces seemed to have been sautéed in oil with peppers and onions and finished with some type of soy sauce. It tasted like poorly executed Chinese food. Finally, we also had the pork knuckle dish(this was our 3rd pork knuckle order in 3 different Prague restaurants) and was equally disappointed. The pork was way too dry(even if cooked bone-in!) and also quite unseasoned. However, I can usually forgive mildly seasoned food if the rest of the dish is done right. This was not the case here. The skin was tough, rubbery, and impossible to cut. I even asked for a serrated steak knife and the knife wouldn’t go through the skin! Perplexed, I showed one of the servers an old photo uploaded here on Unilocal which clearly showed the crispy blistered pork skin and asked if I had made a mistake in my order. The server merely shrugged and said that my rubbery, non-edible pork skin is the exact same dish as the crispy one depicted in the Unilocal photo. Prague has been amazing so far but this is definitely the most disappointing meal I’ve had in this city and in the continent as a whole.

How could you not eat and drink in a 17th Century wine cellar below a 12th Century monastery? I went Czech traditional with duck, dumplings and sweet red cabbage with a Pilsner and it was the best food I had in Prague. To get there take Tram #22 and get off at Pohořelec. It’s also within walking distance of the Castle district and the embassies.

I definitely went in having high expectations that were quickly dashed by a rude waiter who did not want to help us. He would barely tell us where the smoking versus non smoking section was. Finally we found a seat(note even if s table had reserved on it check the time. Our table was reserved 2 hours later not then). The beer was really good but definitely over priced compared to other placed throughout Prague. I do understand that it is made on premis but it was about 3 times as expensive. The food was good traditional and made onsite. This should have given it a 4 but due to the rude waiter who also charged us for a side we never got. Definitely it didn’t meet my expectations.

I’ve been here twice and loved both visits. It’s located in an out of the way courtyard near the Prague Castle. It’s a long walk up the hill but a nice scenic walk down towards the Carles Bridge. They are one of the few breweries in Prague that do an IPA and theirs is quite good! I also recommend their amber beer. For lunch I had salmon with a nice dill sauce and potatoes. It was really tasty and the rest of the food menu also looked good. Service has been fast and friendly on both of my visits and the servers speak pretty good English.

I cannot say enough about the Flamendr, I was in the Czech for 13 days and it was by far the best and most memorable meal. Every bite was Delicious and tender, the chicken, beef and pork was fantastic… So needless to say, I have to go back again next year and hope it is still on the menu. Then there was the beer… also delicious and refreshing and top notch!

If you are looking for some good beer in Prague(i.e. you have had your fill of the Pilsner Urquell and the rest), definitely come here. 5 stars for some very nice in-house brews. I would come back here just for the beer, despite its location near a touristy area. 3.5 stars for the food: Reasonable quality traditional Czech food. The food met met expectations, just nothing to write home about. We were taken to a couple of other places in Prague(by colleagues who live in the city) that serve microbrews and a range of beers from smaller breweries, but this was definitely considerably better. Many of the microbreweries think its a good idea to add«flavors» to beer(fruit, coffee, etc) — not my kind of thing. By contrast, this place offers some high quality, real beers.

Good food, good beer – especially on a hot day. I came here because this was one of the few microbreweries I could find in Prague that people had good things to say about. The praise was warranted. They make more than just the usual Czech pilsners. I had a summer red ale and they have an IPA on-tap year-round. Their black lager was as good as a black lager can get, which still isn’t as good as a porter or stout, but was very yummy. The food was probably slightly better than the beer overall. The schnitzel was fantastic and came with a perfectly passable potato salad. We also got the flamendr, which was a spicy – almost asian – dish of bell peppers and variety of meat. Definitely worth doing if you’re up near Prague castle.

Im sure this place must be even nicer during summer time. They have plenty of outdoor seating but it was too cold for me to staying outside. But if you are beer enthusiastic like me you will love the smell of yeast inside the place. Inside they have that bigger tables for sharing. I shared one with a lovely groups of American ladies. I saw some people here complaining about the table service but I believe it was because the staff cannot speak English well. Anyway, I was there for the beer. The beer was fabulous. The best one I had in Prague. I tried the beers they made there and they where all good, specially the stout type. I tried the food too: the goulash was perfect and I really enjoyed. The location is also good for a walk around the neighborhood. Monastery, parks and café shops around.

What a magical place. Located near the monastery overlooking the city. Definitly a hike to get up here on foot but definitely worth it. Once you are on top the view overlook Prague is hard to beat. The main reason I headed up here was the beer. The Czech’s have great beer all over but I wanted to try something not found in most places in the city… an IPA. The IPA here is good and I would have loved to try other beers but selection was limited by season as with most double and triple IPA’s. Did not have the food but it looked good. Must stop if you are visiting Prague.

Unfortunately, I have to deduct one star for the icy service. No amount of waving arms to flag down the server will be successful, so don’t even put yourself in the position to look like a wailing idiot. If you need something, get up and go find your server, so basically, be your own server. We ordered a bowl of onion soup and beers. The beers came but the onion soup never did. After about 40 minutes of waiting, we did our best to flag down our server but she blatantly ignored us and I basically had to tackle her like a NFL player in order to get her attention. When we re-ordered the onion soup, she acted like we’d never ordered the soup in the first place and was basically annoyed with us. Come to think of it, we just had all-around bad service in Prague on this day. OK, so the easiest way to get here is to take the #22 tram toward Bila Hora and alight at Pohorelec. From there walk in the same direction that the tram was driving, up the hill along the road that bends to the right. After about three minutes of walking, you’ll see the giant monastery entrance on your left(just past the buildings). If you miss it, then I would conclude you’ve already had too much pivo and would question your logic on going to a brewery all while at the same time of passing no judgement. There are three parts of the brewery of the monastery(there are other restaurants in the same courtyard, so keep an eye out of the monastery signage). Part 1 is indoors and is small. This section was closed due to a private event, so I have no idea what it is like inside. Part 2 is outside with tables and blankets and heat lamps — this part is located between the two indoor parts. Part 3 is a beer hall which is 100% non-smoking and is indoors(and also houses the toilets in the basement). We sat outside as we were completely unaware of part 3 until we went to the toilet. The heat lamps throw off a good amount of heat but we were sitting directly under them whereas patrons at the other end of the bench would have probably froze. November dark beer — Eh. Wouldn’t order it again. Amber beer — Eh. Better than the dark beer but not like totally amazing or anything. Onion soup — Delicious. Would order it every day of my life if I could. This place would be amazing on a hot summer day with a big group of people which is the reason for the four stars — four star potential, I guess because when I break down our actual experience, it doesn’t equate to a four-star experience but I left happy and smiling and with a liver working overtime which makes me feel like I had a four-star experience.

During the month that I spent in Praha, I ate a LOT of pork and drank a LOT of pivo(beer), and I can confidently say that my meal at Klasterni Pivovar was hands down the best meal I had. Between me(a small person with a big appetite) and my eating partner(a rather hungry guy) the pork hock and a few pivos was more than enough. Pork hock is also known as pork knuckle, and will more commonly be listed on Czech menus as pork knuckle. It was the eve of my departure and I still had not gotten a taste of Czech-style pork knuckle. We were pleased to see pork knuckle on the menu and thrilled to find it at a brewery that offered more than just pilsners. Czech pilsners are fantastic, as they are the original after all, but I was missing other styles of beer. We ordered the dark wheat beer, summer red ale, and one more that I can’t remember. All three were great beers. Klasterni has seasonal beers so take advantage of them whatever time of the year you visit! The moment when I first saw my meal is a memory that will forever be in my heart. When the waiter brought out the big platter of pork hock, every person he walked past had their jaws dropped wide open with the expression of «WHATISTHAT. I WANTTHAT.» I, too, had that expression. I had no idea the pork hock would be THAT big. Oh the excitement that overcame me. I can’t even tell you how good the pork was. All I can say is that it was perfect. I start salivating every time I think or see a picture of my meal at Klasterni. Sigh. And to think that we had leftovers… I should have eaten myself sick. Our life-changing meal at Klasterni Pivovar took place on a hot Saturday afternoon in August. The pivovar was busy but we didn’t have to wait very long for anything. We ended up sharing a table outdoors with an interesting and fun couple and their poor dog who drooled as he watched everyone devour their food. A wonderful thing about Klasterni, food and pivo aside, is its location. As it is a monastic brewery, it’s next to Strahov Monastery, and is situated atop a hill that offers a great view of Praha. Also, this area is way less tourist-infested than other parts of Praha. Strolling around the monastery and making your way down the hill and into Mala Strana is the perfect way to walk off the extra kilos you may have gained after your glorious meal. If by now you still are not convinced that you must swing by Klasterni Pivovar, then may God bless your soul. Klasterni Pivovar is not only the best restaurant I’ve been to in Praha, but also one of the best restaurants that I have ever been to anywhere.

Say Pivo Great, You just said Beer Say Toe-che-neh Pivo Great You just said Draft Beer Say Jedna Toe-che-neh Pivo Great You just ordered One Draft Beer That’s all you need to know in Prague. Not really, but it’ll go a long way. Our tour group stopped here for our first night.(This is a Rick Steve’s Tour, so this place has been really vetted). We had Duck and Potato Dumplings with a raspberry dip(chocolate mousse). The food was considered good by most. Some of the group had a vegetarian set up consisting of mostly vegetables and soft cheeses with dome spices on it. And plenty of Pivo. The Pivo is fabulous as it is in most Prague pubs. We also had a musician’s Duo, flute and accordion, who treated us to some basic Czech folk songs. It’s a great walk to this restaurant over the St. Charles Bridge and a great atmosphere inside once you get there. Did I say the Pivo was great?

I’m not a beer drinker so I can’t comment on the beer. The food was okay. Most of the entrees were decent. The goulash tastes better in the bread bowl compared to the regular bowl. The schnitzel was very good. A steak dish with mushrooms was also good. The Czech special that my hubby got was bad. It was a beef dish with bread dumpling, cream and cranberries. Avoid that one. The flavors just didn’t go very well.
