Best beer, best chicken schnitzel, best fried cheese. They don’t have freezers or fryers so the meat is fresh and everything fried is cooked in a pan with butter. I would step over my own mother for one of their beers. Game-changers.

Very nice atmosphere, we were sent down to the cellar for tables. They have basic Czech food and a good selection of beer. The prices are as everywhere else. We were served by a american waitress who knew the menu quite well.

One of the best restaurants we’ve been to in Prague! All the staff are so friendly — one gentleman even took the time to recommend us some dishes. We were in and out of the restaurant in less than an hour because the service was so efficient despite it being dinner time and super busy. And not to mention the good food! The fried cheese dipped in tar tar sauce was scrumptious especially in combination with the bread dumplings ordered as a side dish. We also had the beef steak with mashed potato, it was a small portion but tasty nonetheless. Topped off our meal with some chocolate desserts and left the restaurant with satisfied tummies :) Would totally recommend this place!

Being the typical tourists we are, we went for the place called«Local.» A hit not a miss, this place has some really decent Czech goulash and bread dumplings. Sausage was also good. Beer was so cheap we regret not having drank more. Recommend to fellow tourists.

We came after trying some local restaurants that were too full. Lokal was busy too, but a waitress removed one of the reserved table signs and told us to sit down. She took our drink order and some one came out with them shortly after, but then our waitress never came back. She walked past our table several times, as if she had forgotten us. We were starving, so eventually we hailed another waitress to snag ours, and she just took our order instead. It was another similar issue trying to pay. Regardless, the place is nice! The food was good too. The potato sides were so filling we couldn’t finish! And I got a mint tea to warm up before hitting the beers and it was the best choice in this wintery time. I don’t see a lot of similar experiences in the reviews, so I still would recommend it — Czech it out.

I was pretty stoked to come here as it looked like a cool place to eat and drink. I obviously started off with a couple Pilsner’s and a shot of plum brandy. I went with the steak tartare which came with fried bread. The tartare with their fried bread and raw pieces of garlic was awesome. For my meal I went with a pork neck schnitzel with potatoes, would have much rather had it with their bread dumplings though. Great winter time food and good service and pretty cheap as well.

Came here based on a recommendation from our AirBNB host! The short: we loved it. Food: we came here at 8:45pm, and it was packed! We ended up waiting at the bar for half and hour to get seated. When we did get seated, we were told most of the items on the menu were gone! However! They were able to whip up some standard dishes for us. For a party of 6, we got two orders of the steak tartare, two chicken schnitzels, and a pork dish with cabbage and bread dumplings. We loved everything! Steak tartare was on point. Schnitzels were delicious and crispy. We got a side of the potatoes and a side of the macaroni salad. Both were great! The pork dish was delicious! Service: We found that staff was not as friendly(with the exception of our waiter). No smiles kinda service and the kind that ignores you when you try to get their attention. When our waiter disappeared we had to hunt down someone who could help us with our check for a good 20 minutes. Ambience: Freaking large hall. Loud, casual, awesome. Overall: despite subpar service, food was great and we would recommend this place!

I really wanted to like this place — not only had it been highly recommended by other reviews and by a friend, but I found out it was right across from our AirBnB! Perhaps we caught them at a bad night but aside from the cool and tasty self-brewed beer they serve(we got the dark Lokal one), I thought it was mediocre. The service was non-existent(though I’m told this is standard for Prague?) and brusque and the food couldn’t quite make up for it. We ordered the schnitzel(fine, but a little dry), the potato dumplings(these were good! salty and chewy and very potato-y) and the chicken salad(great but also hard to mess up a salad with grilled chicken, I think). I’ll definitely make a point to go back again to give them another chance but unfortunately it was a miss this time.

Best place ever! Well at least in Prague! The best part is the beer! They have a brewery type barrel system there so the beer id amazing! I think its unpasteurized freshhhhh! I imagine it is like comparing store bought milkd w whst you would drink straight from a cow. Also they let you pick the amount of foam you want from the beer. You are suppose to drink the foam straight for sweet sweet goodness! The food was excellent as well! Good portions not too big where u feel too full. Wish i had that beer system here in Los Angeles. Id go back just for the beer!

Pork leg schnitzel was just fine 2,5/5 Beef shin goulash with peppers 3,5/5(waitress said Hungarian style) Potato salad quite tasty 3/5, but too much potatoes… Bread dumplings 2⁄5. Unluckily for them I perfectly know how amazing pork schnitzel and potato salad could taste — that was far away from it: D Though I know nothing about bread dumplings, it’s probably just not my taste. If you prepare Hungarian style goulash make it great or skip it in the menu. I like all you can eat idea with your ordered side dishes. Order different side dishes with friends and share so there’s higher possibility you will find your fav ;) They have great drink list and usually few gluten free dishes in the menu. Staff was quite helpful. Interior is modern and creative — great if you want something different than typical Czech restaurant.

We were heading back to the Prague Beer Museum(so many beers and local IPAs too) but they were full. We had seen this place before and were interested, so we headed over. The place was swamped as well but they have non-smoking sections which was a surprise and a pleasure. They also have more room. We each chose a different beer. They are purchased by how much foam is on the beer as well as choosing between a pilsner or a black unfiltered(my fav) – very fun. We also tried their local drink Becherovka in little shot glasses. It was Cinnamon like and very tasty. We also shared some assorted sausages that were yummy. I’ll go back happily.

3⁄5 solid stars To be honest, I was a bit disappointed after reading all the rave reviews. Pretty touristy IMHO. The restaurant has a very long hall – very Harry Potter-esque. We came here on a weekday, 1 hour after it opened. Def no problem finding a seat. Fried cheese: 3⁄5 eh, it was just OK, but it was probably the best item on our table at lunch. Potato salad: 3⁄5 eh, it was ok as well, but all you can eat if you have an appetite… we didn’t ask for refill. Soup: Forgot what the soup was called, but the broth was clear and very simple. Sausage: 3⁄5 Not too shabby. The sausage was really well made and tasty. Not too salty either. Homemade raspberry soda: 3.5÷5 pretty tasty! I recommend trying it. It actually tasted healthy – not too sweet with REAL raspberries.

I visited Lokal on a walking food tour — the place is huge, the length of the building expands a city block. We sampled various beer foods such as fried cheese, ham and a beef tartar which is raw ground beef/garlic/onion and placed on top of bread — all foods were appetizing and definitely better quality from that of a typical beer house or pub — according to the guide there are 11 tanks of beer that house 1,000 beers each and four are exchanged every other day(don’t quote me lol) Praha also has the highest beer consumption in the world Our beer choices were a Pilsner or some type of local dark beer — you can have the beer in a regular pour, which in Prague consists of a decent amount of foam, the second choice was half foam and half beer and the third option was all foam or milk(which is taken from a pint glass as a shot) — funny thing was we thought they couldn’t pour properly in Prague but we were wrong this is how they drink beer and they will send beer back if there is no foam This is a local spot and definitely worth a visit if visiting Prague — just know that everything you get here is local only

I’m not sure if Lokal is super touristy, or super authentic. Typically this is really obvious, but Lokal kind of had me stumped. The place is lain out in old school communist designed, so its a looong narrow restaurant with a domed ceiling, stark walls and kind of a cave-like ambiance. It certainly seemed original, like I felt as if I could be dropping to the ground at the sound of bomb sirens at any moment, but I don’t know if Lokal is legit legit or Disney legit… if you know what I mean. One thing’s for sure though, Lokal is a crowd pleaser. We were told it was difficult to snag a table, and when we arrived at the restaurant, there were people crowded around outside the front door. When we walked in though, the absence of a host/ess left us wandering towards the back of the restaurant, looking for some sort of authority figure to take our name. But then, a waitress took pity on what must have been faces of confused hunger, and she led us over to a table, just like that! As least half the reason you come here is for the beer. I ordered a beer mixed with raspberry soda, so basically cider, just super foamy with lots of seeds and raspberry goop. It was delightful. And large. As far as food, I ordered a salad. I know, I know, NOT typical Czech cuisine that they specialize in, and not even proper vacation food… but I was so over rich, potato based, drowning in gravy, stick to your gut grub, that a salad was more than welcome. And I don’t know if it was because I hadn’t eaten a salad in nearly two weeks at that point(read: I eat salad everyday for lunch. Like errday), but it was SO delicious. I think it was even listed on the starters section, but it was really pretty large. It had cucumbers and tomatoes and onions and what they called«feta-type» cheese, which was a little disconcerting but turned out to be feta cheese in the real, not the«type». I also took a few bites of the potato dumplings that are all-you-can-eat. Just like all the other potato dumplings I tried during my trip, they didn’t have much flavor, but have a pretty satisfying texture, kind of like play dough in your mouth. We had a little bit of a miscommunication as far as getting sauce for the dumplings, as they are served dry when you order them off the menu, but if you get them as a side for your dish, they bring you our more of the sauce from your dish if you get a second helping of dumplings. If that makes sense? So anyway, the food was good, the beer was good, the service was good, and everything was so cheap!

While visiting Prague we heard many good things about Lokal and decided to stop by. Unfortunately, all of the tables in the nonsmoking section were reserved or taken. Since the tables sit at least 6, we asked a table with 2 people if we could join them. They were nice enough to say yes! Holy meat and potatoes. The food is great but there aren’t really any vegetables to be had. We ordered the beef shin goulash with potato dumplings, fried cheese with potato salad and the spicy sausage. We had a few rounds of whatever was on tap as well. All of it was great! The food is very filling and heavy, so I would recommend skipping lunch :) While this is a touristy spot, it did look like there were several tables with locals. As an added bonus, Dlouha is where all the bars and clubs are. Definitely check out the beer museum!

Saw on Unilocal that Lokál had good reviews, so decided to check it out! Arrived for lunch, and ordered the beef goulash, fried cheese with tartar sauce, and supplementary bread and potato dumplings. The fried cheese was a lot like a fried mozzarella stick, except shaped like a square. The cheese inside like the consistency of cheese curds that you get in poutine– really chewy, not like the gooey mess from fried mozzarella sticks. My jaw definitely had a workout, and the tartar sauce went well with the food. Beef goulash was average– the beef chunks were more fat than meat; I actually find the one at Restaurace Stare Casy to taste better. Bread dumplings were fine; the potato dumplings were okay, but didn’t taste like potatoes(wondering if they were actually made from potatoes?!). Wasn’t thrilled that the bread and potato dumplings weren’t complimentary with the dish(even though they’re AYCE), but what can you do? Place definitely has a cafeteria feel to it; I heard somewhere that it’s the longest corridor restaurant in the city(or the world? I forget). Prices are decent, and service was quick. Also: there is another Lokál restaurant near Charles Bridge, which serves holiday specials, in addition to the standard menu at the one that I dined in. Wished I had gone there for the special roasted duck; I heard that it’s a must-have in Prague!

I came here with my buddy who had been here before and recommended it. It was very busy. But probably not a single local person was a customer :) It’s quite touristy. We had to wait a bit and then they seated us. It’s like a giant cafeteria, except they serve alcohol. I wasn’t a huge fan of the waitress. She was really pushy. She’d say no don’t get that get this instead. She was so pushy that we felt she was just trying to peddle stuff that wasn’t fresh and they were trying to get rid of. Whether or not that was the case, that was the impression she left us. So I was especially defiant, since I don’t particularly like to be pushed around, and ordered a chicken schnitzel along with bread and potato dumplings. They did not go well together. Blasted! The waitress was right. However she annoyed me so much that I have no regrets. We scarfed down our food as quickly as possible and got the hell out of there. I didn’t particularly love this lokal experience.

Lokal had a lot to recommend it and was right around the corner from my accommodations in Prague. I tried to go for dinner at first but at 7pm on a week night they were full. My second attempt for lunch, however, had plenty of tables. While the menu on the table is in Czech, the server spoke excellent English and helped direct me. The food is simple, devious Czech food. Of the potato dumplings I tried during my time in Czech Republic, theirs was my favorite. Great service, food and price.

«Hi, I’m Richard and I built this place» said some dude in a suit at the lobby of our hotel. Though the waft of douche hit me by surprise, he DID recommend Lokal for some hearty traditional Czech food(and gave us a copy of his magazine). I have to admit, this guy knows good food. We ordered a lot of meat and a mix of the various dumplings. Czech food is heavy, so you don’t need to order a lot to have a full meal. And don’t forget to order a Pilsner or two(or seven). This place is huge which would make it ideal for large groups or to spread out with one person. High recommendations for Lokal… and Richard who I don’t believe built this place.

I had an amazing meal here! It was my first time trying Czech food and oh my gosh… It was D.E.L.I.C.I.O.U.S. I had the meat loaf with gravy and a side of bread dumplings. I’ve never tried bread dumplings before and it sounded interesting. I didn’t even know what bread dumplings were. They taste like steamed buns, but regardless it was really good with the gravy! The waitress said I had ordered a good combination when I told her what I wanted.(It said unlimited bread dumplings, but didn’t ask for more because my friends and I were too full). Drinks on the other hand, I thought the beer with raspberry soda sounded interesting, so I gave it a try. Nope. It was not impressive. I only had 1⁄3 of it. Wish i got a regular beer instead. On the bright side, the meal was super cheap! Only $ 7USD for the whole meal and it was super filling. I’ll be back when I go back to Prague!

Dafür gibt es aber«all you can eat» Knödel.
