Great find. Delicious food and fresh beer, all for a really really decent price. Vegetarian choices available, alongside full variety of pork& beef dishes. The tavern is just a few steps off the main street but is more popular with locals than with tourists. Ask for the daily specials for an even better bargain.

What a fun, non-touristy tavern! Although this place is right around the corner from Wenceslas Square, it seemed to be filled with locals having a wonderful time. We happened upon this place on our last night in Prague, and it was a great option for our last meal in the Czech Republic! On a family vacation, we’d been staying in Old Town with our son who is a picky eater, so I’d not gotten a chance to try any authentic Czech cuisine up to this point. I ordered the goulash with dumplings, and my husband ordered the tenderloin with cranberry sauce. When the giant plates were placed before us, heaping with meats, sauce and breads, we knew we were in for something special. This was real«stick to your ribs» fare, and delicious. We enjoyed washing it down with tankards of Czech beer. The atmosphere is cozy, and the wait staff was very pleasant. If I lived in Prague, I think this is a place I would go to often!

Awesome local pub, tavern, restaurant… whatever you want to call it. We ordered a sample platter of a deli dish… huge, but not outstanding, but still very good. Outstanding was the Beef Tartar. Wish I took a pic because it was outstanding! The beer was also outstanding too. Unfortunately, 2 liters of Hefeweisen practically put me asleep. Highly recommend this place!

Thank you Rick Steve’s for this great recommendation! Off a little side street from touristy Wenceslas Square, this place is a total gem. Frequented by locals, you know you came to the right place. The key thing to remember in the Czech Republic is that beer is cheaper than water! That was definitely the case here too which accounted for some people ordering about 4 on their visit. I went with a modest large one and then a small one(Pilsner Urquell which thankfully you can get in the States but not for as cheap sadly). The staff was really great and friendly overall. The female waitress who took our drink order was great, as was one of the male waiters who brought us our food. They all speak English as well if you haven’t mastered your Czech and they have menus in English also. Smoking is allowed in a lot of places in Europe still so if you want non smoking, just seat yourself in the back of the restaurant. And as always in Europe, remember you have to ask for the bill. They won’t try rush you out so it’s on you when you’re ready. Highly recommend the roasted pork loin with the potato dumplings. Huge portion size with amazing gravy. There aren’t enough adjectives in the book to describe how yummy it was really. And again… beer. This was definitely my favorite local meal for the entire 18 days I was in Europe. Highly recommend if you get a change to visit Prague.

Cool bar with delicious potato soup, pork knuckle, and some pretty amusing(and supposedly famous) lewd drawings on the wall. And like everywhere in prague, it’s decidedly affordable. Given it’s location to tourist focused business, there seemed to be a lot of locals hanging out.

Nice food and a fun atmosphere. I ended up there thanks to other Unilocal reviews — thank you Unilocal Community. We were seated in the rear nonsmoking area, which was populated with a mix of locals and tourists. It’s a communal table arrangement if you’re a small party, and we shared a table with a nice German couple. The starter special, a cheese spread served with toasted rye bread, was very good. I enjoyed my pork main course, which was served with potato dumplings(yummy) and sauerkraut(too sweet for my taste). My other half had the sirloin, which was average. It was a nice meal and I recommend a visit.

Relying on Unilocal to solve the hunger pains we descended into this quaint Prague bar/restaurant. Quaint because they still smoke in there! We arrived without a booking but were quickly seated and served(fortunately in a non-smoking area). Friendly helpful staff who spoke English quickly had us settled with some drinks. The appetizer was a traditional homemade cheese dish served with fried bread and was great. The steak I ordered was good and the sides tasty. Portions were generous, and we were full after our mains. We skipped on the beer this time but they looked good. Well recommended for a casual but substantial dining experience.

A classic Czech pub with pretty good food(including seasonal specials, like goose on St. Martin’s Day) and efficient service. And, perhaps most surprising, reasonable prices just a stone’s throw from Vaclavak. Plus, there’s the story of the ropemaker who used to run the place, and whose wife took it over when he went away for work, and made a success of it by offering a little something extra to patrons — herself. When he returned and heard about her carryings-on, he strangled her in the basement with rope he made himself. They say her ghost walks the rooms at night, after the place is closed. Thus the very odd décor(and why my friends and I called it «The Slut».) A great place for tourists and locals to mix, and a GREAT pint of Gambrinus. The only real drawback are that some of the tables are stupidly tall and have the really high chairs that many people fall off of when drunk. Which can be amusing, if it isn’t you. Nice tip: they do a meat and cheese platter that is the perfect thing for feeding jet-lagged visitors. That, plus a few beers.

Typical Czech pub with average prices and surprisingly good service. The disadvantage of the place is bad kitchen smell. It isn’t very strong, but definitely noticeable in all the rooms. The restaurant is quite spacious, by the way. The food is tasty, and menu is good, of course offering dishes from Czech cuisine. They have menu versions in many languages and accept payments by credit card which is to their advantage, but doesn’t raise the level till the fourth star. The restaurant is not suitable for kids, as there are large paintings with topless women.

Flew in from Paris, took a cab to my hotel, checked in, dropped off my luggage, and hit the streets to find something to eat. Decided to go to a highly rated place on Unilocal even though it was a decent little walk. After a 15 minute walk and a couple propositions from prostitutes, I made it there. Unfortunately, they were booked for a while and recommended making reservations next time. So it’s 7 in the evening and I haven’t eating since my small hotel breakfast in Paris earlier that morning. It’s safe to say I’m starving and need a big man meal and multiple beers to shake me back. So I start venturing around and come across this place. I walk in grab a table and in the bar area despite the cigarette smoke. What do I order, a roast pig leg, that’s right, a caveman meal for a hungry man. You might think I’m lying but I ate the whole thing, except the bone. The meat was so tender and juicy, the cartilage was soft as butter and as flavorful as fat. I think I blacked out while eating this meal and my more primal instincts took over while I devoured this magically meaty masterpiece. Something about meat and beer that can make a man truly happy. The beer was good, the pork overdose was truly an ancestral Neanderthal experience. Can’t say anything bad about my experience, 5 stars

Super cheap and great Czech food right in the center of town! Everything was tasty and hearty. We ordered some sort of giant pork knuckle, potato balls(my favorite), and a salad to offset all of the heavy foods. The beer is dirt cheap, of course. I highly suggest this place for travelers looking for a cheap, authentic option.

Reasonable food and price considering where you are located. We’ve been to the Czech Republic a few times and while this won’t be our most memorable place or meal, it was a good find for fairly late in the evening, full(of tourists). Recommended for big groups with big appetites for beer and meat!

After having a wonderful experience at U Parlimentu we read the reviews and someone remarked that this place was better. It’s not.(At least not in my humble opinion). The food, service and prices were nothing to write home about. Our waitress displayed the usual Eastern European disdain and neglected to tell us that the meal we were ordering contained most of the side dishes we were ordering as extras. It wasn’t mentioned on the menu that these sides were included and it was obvious we were over ordering, but she said nothing. The meat was ok,(the duck was very dry) and the white sauerkraut so sour it was unpalatable. The red sauerkraut was very good, which somewhat made up for it as did the dumplings which were good, the ones with onion and bacon excellent, as were the boiled potatoes. The snitzel(and I am becoming a connoisseur of snitzel as my kids love it) was very thin, dry and average. The one at U Parlimentu was much better. The best I’ve tasted(so far!). This place is ok. Not great, not bad but the best thing going for it is its central location, not the food or service.

A rather plain looking pub from the outside, you’d be surprised to find rustic gold walls with a wood and brick interior inside. I loved the warm atmosphere right off the bat. We stumbled upon this pub hidden in one of the alleyways near Wenceslas Square. All the outside benches were taken by what look like to be thirsty locals on a hot day in May and understandably so: reasonable beer prices and they offer Pilsner Urquell, Gambrinus and dark Kozel. Good beers! We filled our tummies with delicious garlic soup, sirloin steak and potatoes and traditional Czech specialties like tenderloin in cream sauce and cranberries as well as pork fillets with spinach. All the meat bingeing got me craving for a healthy salad with pan seared trout and it was just what I needed. A great pick for Czech food in a very touristy part of town.

Good Czech food(I think– from what little we Americans know about Czech food…) and fun pub atmosphere(complete with a pub tale about the rope maker’s wife). The smoke was pretty bad sometimes– we heard there was a nonsmoking room in the back, but it was full. The male server was nice.

The traditional Goulash and the Chicken Skewers were both delicious. We also added the roast potatoes with bacon and onions and, together, it was plenty of food to fill two hungry men after a several hour walk around the city. With a bottle of water and a refreshing Pilsner, and tax and service charges, the total was about 500kc(at the time, 25USD). I definitely recommend it.

Wow. Delicious local food, generous servings, affordable prices(maybe 150kr for main dish). This place is exactly what you would hope to find when looking for somewhere to eat dinner. Everything we had was delicious and our only regret: eating local food somewhere else. This is the only place you need to go because it is so awesome.

A beautiful, surprising find in the old town. Serving good filling traditional Czech food and by staff who are happy and multilingual. We had the pork with bread and potato dumplings which was lovely and remarkably good value. Along with a half litre of dark Kozel, it made for a great inexpensive first meal in Prague.

Das Prag-Buch hat nicht gelogen. Urige Kneipe, alles aus Holz, immer voll. Nette Bedienung in Deutsch. Das Schwarzbier schmeckt, auch meiner Frau. Und Semmelknödel machen satt. Immer wieder gerne.
