Would definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting Prague. The food was amazing and the service was great! Try making a reservation, if not be prepared to start drinking at the bar to wait for a table! :)

We happened to stumble across this place while searching for a quick snack after 24 hours of travel and what a gem. It was so cute inside — traditional cellar-esque décor, rustic tables, even an outside patio if it were warm out. And the staff were super friendly and helpful. It was pretty touristy, but still felt pretty authentic. We got beers(which were cheaper than water in true Czech fashion) and some plates to share. Cheese platter — really good Brie-type soft cheese(it wasn’t quite Brie but I didn’t know enough to figure out by taste exactly what it was), blue cheese, Gouda, another sliced deli cheese I couldn’t discern, and some butter. Pickled sausage — VERY pickley. We liked it a lot, but just take the name seriously is all. Ham with mustard — again exactly what it sounds like. Cooked like a thick bacon, and came with some good pickled peppers. Gnocchi with poppy seeds, melted butter & sugar — we just had to try such a unique dish. It was too sweet to not be dessert by not sweet enough to be dessert. Not the most flavorful, but still good. Probably wouldn’t order it again but hey, I’m on an adventure right? Would definitely recommend!

So amazing!!! We wanted to try Czech food and saw that this place was good and a local suggested it as well. We got the pork knee, ribs, and goush. All the food was so tender and tasteful. We definitely got the Czech food experience we wanted.

It was our first meal in Prague and it did not disappoint! We ordered the onion soup with cheese croutons, mixed grill and the goulash. The meat in the mixed grill was cooked to perfection and the goulash was tasty and super filling. The waiter was nice and polite which we find to be a rarity in Prague now that we’ve been here a couple of days. We would gladly come back here for another Czech meal!

Hadn’t had much luck with Czech food our first few days here so I turned to Unilocal for tasty inspiration. I think my expectations were unnaturally high as the reviews for this one were quite good and so were the food porn photos. Built like a homely pub, with farming items decorating the walls and lofts, it is a lot bigger than it appears from the outside, sprawling in length. Very cozy and one of those places which feels familiar though you have never been. It took a while to get served and we have to wave them down despite them not being busy. Also, at the end, the waiter was like, «So, are you going to tip or no?» which was quite forward even for Prague. We both had the goulash which was certainly the best out of the three goulash we had on our trip. However, the other two were appalling so it’s not like we are giving out big prizes here. It was generous on the beef and in a very nifty bread bowl with a bread lid! Good price and central — in the Jewish quarter. Would come here again but try some of their other food as I had major food envy looking at the people around us.

I went to the 2nd Mlejnice. This restaurant was not big, but I felt warm and cozy. I ordered potato with blue-cheese, grilled pork with cheese garlic sauce and pork knee. All of them were lovely. I liked cheese garlic sauce the most. But I felt a little bit smell of pork when I was eating pork knee. I recommend this place if you guys want to try Czech traditional dishes :)

Got the obligatory tourist dish: pork knee. With a side of steamed veggies. It was good and HUGE. Very juicy and, even though 1⁄3 of it was dispensable fat, I couldn’t finish the whole thing by myself. Steamed veggies were nice but had too much butter/oil on them. Nice atmosphere and priced competitively with other nice restaurants in the area.

After waiting for a little bit(very busy restaurant) we got a table and ordered some beer, beer goulash and some side dishes. The food was excellent — I highly recommend the beer goulash(around 165CZK) in a bread bowl. The prices are good. The waiter was friendly, spoke good English, the restaurant was really cute. Would go there again and highly recommended.

Vibe: Very cozy and comfortable. Food: I ordered the duck breast and didn’t really like it. It didn’t really taste like duck and just had inedible bits of fat attached to it. Very strange. My bf’s pork knee was great and enormous. The cabbage pancakes were really good. Large portions. Delicious grog. They had a large menu so it’s possible I simply made a bad choice as far as the duck goes. They accept credit cards. They also have boxes so you can take food to go. Really friendly waiter.

Wer böhmisch essen will, macht dort nichts falsch.

On our last night in Prague, we hadn’t had the best Czech food but I wanted to give it one last chance, so we came here. Oh my god. The best decision I could have made. This meal is in my top 3 out of six different European countries. My boyfriend and I both got the beef roast with green beans and chips. The meat was so perfectly seasoned, the green beans were to die for and the potatoes were a perfect addition to dip into the sauce from the steak. I’m telling you… I would come back to Prague JUST for that steak. I wish we would have found this place sooner in our stay so I could have had it again. The service was friendly, and I felt very welcome in the restaurant.

This place can be difficult to find as it’s tucked away on one of the side streets coming off the old Square. If you’re having trouble getting there I suggest walking to the astronomical clock, with your back towards the clock, enter the first alley(has an arch above it) the restaurant is towards the end on the left. Phew. Aren’t you glad for Unilocal? Prices here are very reasonable and there’s a lot to go through on the menu. You’ll see a lot of tourists digging into large pork knuckles but don’t jump over the cliff with them! There are some gems on this menu that will make your Prague experience less cabbage and pork knuckle and much more authentic. Granted cabbage really makes a lot of appearances in this restaurant… Take your time with the menu. Our waiter was very patient and understanding and left us alone to sieve through all the items. In the end I ordered duck and my wife ordered steak while we shared some spicy sausage and cabbage as a starter. It turned out to be a surprisingly light meal after the previously heavy comfort food we’d become accustomed to. The food was decent value and very good quality. Service was friendly but a little slow at times. The bill was confusing as the tax wasn’t broken down on the receipt so our waiter spent a lot of time explaining in detail how much each table’s bill cost. One small complaint I have is that the carbonated soft drinks here are served out of large bottles kept behind the bar which inevitably go flat. I was sick of drinking beer by this point so ordered a coke that was disappointingly warm and flat. Perhaps that’s a sign from some higher power telling me not to go to Prague and drink anything but beer?

Looking for good Czech food and locals kept saying check those creepy looking alleyways, there you will find the best food. They were right! A small restaurant, this place packs a lot of flavors in there dishes. I had the steak with mushrooms and my boyfriend had the beef goulash. Both were extremely delicious and fairly priced. I would highly recommend coming back here for dinner. The charm of the place is inviting and there is no wifi so you can focus on the meal your about to feast on!

We went here based on the Unilocal reviews trying to find some better goulash dinner. This restaurant is along a very small side street off the main town square. The inside is charming and inviting. We both had the goulash in the bread bowl as that had been mentioned several times. We would not call it a gourmet undertaking but reasonable country fare although some pieces of the meat were quite fatty. I also tried the Herring which I enjoyed. Also worth mentioning is that they have the dark beer(don’t remember the brand). It is worth the visit but perhaps more so for the ambience and friendly service.

My dad and hubby got the ginormous beef goulash in a bread bowl. It was really delicious and a very generous portion! Beware, it is really salty but I didn’t start noticing that until I got to the bottom of the bowl. My aunt and I both got the roast duck. Again, it was a very generous portion. The duck itself was tasty and very tender. The peach juice tasted like it came from a fresh peach which was nice! It comes in a tiny bottle of course. I would definitely recommend this place! Best goulash in Prague!

Autentico.

Tried another restaurant close to the hotel called Mlejnice for lunch. Had a big glass of the local dark, sweet beer kozel and some beef goulash served in a hollowed out loaf of bread. The goulash was rich, tasty and delicious and topped with few rings of raw red onion. The meat was tender and full of flavour but it’s the gravy it comes in that made this dish for. So good I could almost eat it as a soup. Like most of the restaurants in the old town this one doesn’t have air conditioning, but I was sitting at a table near an open window which caught the cool breeze blowing down the narrow cobbled street outside. The interior is quirky with a lot of interesting items including a sled, a spinning wheel and a butter churn hanging from the roof or resting on one of the old wooden ceiling beams. Another plus, it’s a little way away from Old Town Square and its trillion tourists. Service is good, and for 200CZK(about $ 10) very reasonably priced.

As with most establishments in Prague, this one was cheap. Looking like a hole in the wall, the restaurant actually offers many seats inside, so the wait is not long. The goulash comes in a rye bread bowl, which you don’t have to eat if you’re disinclined. I do recommend it though, since the goulash itself is thick, meaty, and feeling. Additionally, the spicy sausage with potato salad and puréed horseradish and Dijon mustard was delicious, enough to split among two. Around the restaurant, various young slim Asian women were eating l chunks of shoulder, knee, and other large joints of cattle. I was intimidated, but it all looked delicious, and they looked happy.

Had the special: roasted lamb’s knee with potatoes and spinach. The dish took some time to be served but it was amazing. The gelatin in the knee had wonderfully caramelised in the roast and the butter richly flavoured the entire dish.

In Prague, eat(and drink) like a Czech! We wanted a good restaurant, with local food and decent prices that is also around the city center so we won’t have to travel far. I guess there’s still something touristy about this place but the presence of some locals who ate there too made me feel like we made the right choice. We came in, and got a table, the place makes you feel really cozy once you step in– feels like an old home with some antiques and wooden tables, the modern-pop-radio music was, however, not spot on… But the volume was rather low so no problem. They have great beers and great starters, my boyfriend ordered the pork knee(which is very traditional in Czech Republic) and I had another traditional food — Goulash soup in bread. Both dishes were big and hearty, very tasty, I was very sad when my soup was over! Skip the fries though, it’s not that good, the potato salad is very good. If I’m ever coming back to Prague, I’m coming once more for this wonderful soup.

Also eine bedingte Empfehlung.
