Only thing we ordered was a bowl of clàm chowder. Wonderful rich texture, strongly tasting of clam juice, chunks of potatoes and clams. Best I have had in a long time. Deserts look homemade and are very reasonably priced, but we already had ice cream so we didn’t try any. No idea why people on Unilocal were complaining about the service. Definitely need this recipe.

Decent food but service can be very poor. Food is consistent but you can’t overcome slow, inattentive counter help. We continue to enjoy the food — sandwiches and salads are a hit. Good choice of beverages. Location is the hit. You can dine inside or on the sidewalk. Worth the wait to enjoy the beach vibe.

Do not try their award winning clam chowder. No clams and super salted with potatoes. Don’t get fried clams either. It is measly 2 tablespoons. Stick to their sandwiches.

Not bad for fast breakfast came with fruit cup that didn’t look that fresh but they serve Peets coffee so I’ll let the fruit sly a wee bit lol

The really unfortunate thing about this is, the owner and staff just don’t care. They cater to tourists who don’t have any other reasonable choices. That pretty much sums it up. They just don’t care. My family and I have been visiting Avila Beach for twelve years. Whenever I head into Avila Grocery, I’m just waiting to be let down. The sandwiches are pathetic. The staff is rude. The store is not clean, and they just don’t care, because they don’t have to. It’s really sad. I recently walked into their store to purchase a drink for my wife and I to enjoy on the beach. Everything is overpriced, but what the hell, I needed something to drink. After I paid the cocky little turd at the register, I asked him for two paper cups. He wanted to charge me fifty cents for a paper cup. One paper cup. When I questioned him, all I got was«our prices go up then your go up». A really unfortunate response. I can’t possibly know just how much money I have spent at this market, many hundreds, now it’s over. And these people are just too stupid realize it. If you’re going to Avila Beach, try to make arrangements to shop somewhere else. Save your self the agony. With all the negative reviews, I’m sure the owners couldn’t care any less about one more, although I’m ever hopeful.

A good place to grab a bite when you don’t feel like waiting 30mins-hour to be seated at Custom House. Their clam chowder is pretty good, tastier than Splash’s in my opinion. Only downside, don’t expect to find any clams in it.

I will never come back to Avila Grocery again. We rode out the bob jones trail on Sunday and it was very hot that weekend. Tons of people at the beach and decided to go and get something to drink at the grocery store. I went to pay for my Iced Tea and the rude checker informed me they had a $ 5 minimum to purchase anything… really? I cannot just buy an iced tea, pathetic.

Found this place after a walk along Bob Jones. The place next door was packed. Marginal quality and staff are rude. Had a tuna sandwich. Thick, spongy bread was supposed to be sourdough. Lots of lettuce and a thin spread of tuna salad. I’ve spent $ 10 for a sandwich before but this one didn’t come near to the quality I expected for that price. Wife said we should have gone to one of the sit-down restaurants. Would have had a similar bill but better service.

For Christmas Day with a jumping off crowd they were doing very well with great attitudes and trying to keep everything together considering there was a line when they opened. They get an extra star for being open Christmas with good attitudes! Clam chowder was pretty good as well. Lots of seating inside downstairs and outside.

nice picnic supplies. easy access location for anything from avocado’s to aloe vera gel. The Twinkies were expired!(so you know how old they must be! lol) Also there is no a/c so super hot in there on a summers day and so the food/wine takes a hit… Ordered the veg. breakfast burrito to go… YUMMY!

The food used to be awesome here. Now they’re just rude and annoyed you’re even there to order food.. And the pregnant chick is NEVER even polite, just cold and rude. First time ever we have not gotten a military discount and she also needed to add that she’s worked there for two years and they’ve never had it, yet she also asked the person at the register next to here if it is extra to add something. Very very disappointed. I used to recommend the place to EVERYONE coming through town-will definitely NOT recommend anymore, atleast not without a disclaimer.

My husband and I stopped here for lunch and it was absolutely delicious. He ordered the tri-tip sandwich. He said it was the best tri-tip he had ever had. I ordered the ham and Swiss and it was also very good. The sandwiches were so large, we could have easily split them.

We used to really enjoy this place. After our last visit on Mothers Day we will not be going back. The food has always been okay, the service has always been decent… not any more. The service was horrible. We felt lake we were in the way, not welcomed. They were not even that busy. Mentally once you are made to feel this way, it carries over to how you like everything else. They keep inching up their prices and now its overpriced. On a side note the gentleman that was working the front counter was extremely rude to the guys cooking in the back. I wanted to report him to the boss, but maybe he was the boss? There are so many other great options in Avila I would skip this place.

Staff was really friendly but the service was really slow. I was number 7 and I didn’t get my food until after number 14 was called. They said they were waiting on chicken… didn’t think chicken strips would take 25 min to cook.

~Beach Pricey Prices, Dat Quesadilla Doh~ Feeling the hungerz while walking around Avila? I definitely did. Instead of hitting up a restaurant next door, went into this little grocery and deli. That spicy quesadilla was on point! And that orange sauce, I have no idea what it was, but it was great! I loved that quesadilla and would definitely go back for it. Only downside, it took like half an hour to bring it out. For reals? Go order, and jump in the water for a bit, then come back and be happy.

Has some travel basics so you’re good if you forget your toothpaste. But it’s sad that it’s the only grocery store around. One little box of cherry tomatoes, all moldy. A head of moldy lettuce. And two wilted green peppers. I can’t be the only tourist who likes fresh fruit and veggies for the family. Heck, jack up the prices, you’d have the market cornered on celery. People would buy it.

If you are staying in the Avila area and looking for ‘the corner market” stop at the Avila Grocery. It is close to the water and a great location for loose items, especially if you dont want to pay for things at your hotel or time share location. They have a deli tucked into the back of the store with an awesome California inspired menu. The tri-tip wrap with roasted peppers has to be made with crack! I could of ordered another. It can get busy during the summer months and food weight times can be 20 – 30 min. on average. So pull up a chair on the patio and wait it out while soaking up some vitamin D! Cheers!

Probably the worst bacon cheeseburger I’ve ever had. The bacon was broiled, charred and old. The meat was cold and dried out. Very disappointed. My wife had the clam chowder and said it was very good. Since I’m writing the review, only two stars on the weight of the chowder.

First time eating here. Pretty good. The biscuits and gravy are really good and the French toast too! Nice view of the water and there was plenty of food for 3 of us to share! We will be back :)
