I work at UAB and was excited when something on the lower end of the price spectrum moved into this space, which seems to be a revolving door of restaurants. They have an interesting mix of hot dogs and BBQ options. They have a a special each day ranging from 2 for 1 hot dogs to several BBQ combos. Their BBQ is about average, and considering the price, has got me to come back a few times. However, their hot dogs(at least on 2 for 1 Tuesday) were just atrocious. I could not even finish one of my hot dogs because it was so terrible. It tasted like they steamed the hot dog in the bun, and topped it off with leftovers of BBQ from the week before(I think this was the Downtown Dog). The people with me also had the same experience with their hot dogs. The service is usually quick, but their is one lady that works there that has a consistent bad attitude. When customers walk in, she rolls her eyes and sighs. Would I go back? Probably, but only if other options around there are not possible.

This place is AMAZING! I work at UAB and my co-workers and I go every Wednesday for the warm smoked chicken salad sandwich combo for 5.99. The sandwich by itself is 3.99. They have a great health code rating(very important to me). The place is always packed at lunch time. I’ve been there for dinner also and it was still busy. I have also had their gyro which is delicious… Their fries are good too. I have to say I usually go on Wednesday and have not tried much else other than the chicken salad sandwich and gyro but if the rest of the food is any indication I’m sure it’s awesome… Definitely give it a try if you’re in the area!

If you work in the UAB area you are probably familiar with the group of restaurants on 18th Street S between 5th&4th Ave. You also know that the space between Waffle House & China Master has been home to several unsuccessful places. The good news is that G-Dogs is now open there. Except for carts, hot dogs have been mysteriously absent from this area but we now have a place to fill that need! My first visit today was a pleasant surprise as I found out that there are daily specials & Tues is buy one get one free. Awesome. For my first visit I decided to keep it basic & go for the G-Dog, their version of the classic Bham dog, ie grilled, with kraut, must, onions & sauce on top. Very good. The order of fries was large, fresh & crisp — also very good. All the expected varieties of hot dogs are available. BONUS! They also have burgers, gyros, and Golden Rule BBQ(pork & ribs only). Good variety of sides, a few desserts & reasonable prices. Quick & friendly service. If you are eating there they bring your food to the table, either inside or at one of the few set up outside. Overall a great addition to the area.

A co-worker and I had heard that the burger place next China Master had closed and that G-Dog’s was now in it’s spot. So, we decided to head over there for lunch today. We walked in and the place was packed, all of the tables were full and the was a line to order 5 deep. As soon as we ordered a table opened up and we snagged it. The place stayed packed the entire time we were there. I ordered the G-Dog(I believe it was: mustard, krout and their hotdog sauce) combo which comes with fries and a drink. The food came out super quick and it came with a huge basket of fries. The G-Dog was very good and so were the fries. *Side Note: On Tuesdays they have a BOGO deal, buy a hotdog get a hotdog free. So, we will be going back next Tuesday to try one of the many other varieties they have.
