Now this place is amazing and I hate chicken and waffles but they offer the best I’ve tasted. The food is seasoned to perfection!

Pretty good, got the nooner which was great(wish the egg was runny but it didn’t bother me enough to send it back). Everything was pretty tasty and service was good, would go back.

Country Benedict and the Breakfast was amazing! Peppered gravy was exceptional and the portions were perfect! Highly recommend for breakfast or brunch with a friend!

If I could give it 0 I would. I I had to send back my chicken and waffles twice the first time because the chicken was undercooked(gross) and the second time was because it was burned. I guess I picked the wrong day to come. Not the best first impression of this place not sure I’ll ever be back.

Great, yet tight atmosphere with even better food. I had the Kure and my wife had the Dads Benedict. Both were excellent and massive.

When I passed this place, it’s so cute and it has patio outside where you can enjoy sun! The parking lot is small and I drive a mommy’s car so I had to be careful. We got fried chicken and waffle and it taste good!

Based on my meal I give it 4 stars. My friends got mug as which were a disappointment but my Kure was incredible! We hung out on the patio, even braved the rain and had a great time. We also tried the earnest Palmer and the grapefruit Reba. They were both really good !

Breakfast for dinner? Yes please! Located in a Oak Cliff in what looks like Grandma’s old house Jonathan’s serves up healthy servings of morning munchies all day long. Service also comes with a smile. I came with a couple of friends and we split their chicken and waffles, their all in one waffle, and their migas. The waffles here are exceptionally well made, crisp on the outside, light fluffy and slightly chewy on the inside. The all in one waffle also has bacon in the batter-winner. The chicken is fried nicely with a great crunch and moist inside. The migas is a deliciously hot mess of turkey chirozo, cheese, and egg whites. If you woke up late and want breakfast you should definitely come here

Songs from my youth often invade my brain during moments of drastic change. Driving away from Jonathan’s Oak Cliff, I looked through my mind’s eye. A teenage room, filled with the smell of spray paint, and dirty laundry. Laying on the one unkempt bed, legs upward against the wall, as if sitting on some surrealist chair. I could here this coming through the speakers, at full volume… «Daddy, what does regret mean? Well son, the funny thing about regret is, It’s better to regret something you have done, Than to regret something you haven’t done.» This is what I felt in my gut. A full gut, pleased by the helping of devil dogs, and chicken and waffles. The feeling from the sound of your boisterous host, yelling names that had a 50⁄50 possibility of being answered, across the crowded patio. I feel and hear everything. the past, the present. The regret of not making that one long move across state. Where I could eat here whenever I felt the need. The aroma of that insanely delicious mustard still tickling my umami sense. In any other city, a Mother’s Day crowd would have seen a voracious abundance of fevered egos, impatient patrons, and an «out of gas» staff. Yet, the place was filled with smiles, and conversations that will last in my head, for quite a while. Thank you for sending me home with a take home pack of that incredible mustard.(I have been carefully rationing it) Lastly, Momo, that side hug has lasted me a while. And, I will continue to imagine a world where we fight crime side by side.(This waitress has the patience and demeanor of a Buddhist monk) P. S. The regret you made me feel for deciding to not move to Dallas, is overwhelming.

I adore this place! I’ve been here twice, sharing the popular chicken and waffles both times for $ 11. I love how they split up the order on two separate plates instead of giving you a clean plate to make a mess yourself. The chicken is perfectly seasoned and complemented the pepper gravy well. The gravy is a gift from heaven — so incredibly flavorful and worth putting on anything. Don’t judge me for even dipping my strawberry in it. Nothing particularly special about the waffle, but it’s a tasty meal altogether. I must say, the second time I ate here, we had subpar food(for Jonathon’s). We came Friday at 1:00PM; it was kind of slow with maybe only 3 other groups were dining inside. ALL of our food came out barely warm — the waffle, chicken, gravy, sweet potato chips(stale), and biscuits and gravy. We were forgiving about it since we were in a rush and didn’t want to wait or waste. The servers are extremely friendly and nice, and I honestly think they wouldn’t have given us any problems had we told them. I’ll be back for your amazing chicken and waffles!

Food: 9 Beverage: 10 Cleanliness: 4 Operations:2 Ambiance/concept: 7 Service: 10 Food/Beverage: The food was simple and delicious as was the Ernest Palmer cocktail. Just what I wanted for breakfast. My only complaint was that they could not serve me a biscuit. As the server explained, they only make enough for the dishes that they are served with. The dad’s Benedict and the breakfast plate were both very good. Cleanliness: There is large amounts of mold in the bathroom lining the entire floor and toilet. That cannot be healthy. The dining room seemed clean enough though. Operations: This category left the most opportunity for improvement. When we walked in, our server was eating at the bar in front of us. That just isn’t sanitary. Additionally, the other servers phone kept dinging(as if receiving messages). The sound was annoying, but I found it comical that she would run over to pick it up and text on it behind the bar. Ambiance/décor: At a diner style venue like this, u can’t really go wrong with anything. I loved the patio and would definitely want to sit there if I visited again. They also offer umbrellas for some shade. Service: Our server was playful and friendly. He was attentive and prompt. No complaints here. P Overall score: 42/60= 3.5 stars

I had never had chicken and waffles before but I had it hear and it was amazing. The chicken fried chicken was perfectly prepared and nicely seasoned and the gravy was tasty as well. The portion size was outrageous. I eat a lot and I was completely stuffed. I put this place down as 4 star but it’s borderline 5. The service was good and I like the atmosphere. The only issue I had were some flying termites or ants with wings that I had the misfortune of meeting while sitting on the patio area. I was on the South side of the patio and I think that was the only area they were actually at. I considered changing tables but after killing a few there weren’t a ton around so I just dealt with it. Also, it sucks that North Oak Cliff roads are all under construction including Beckley in front of this restaurant but it’s still worth going. Tip: There is a parking lot behind these restaurants where you can park for Jonathan’s. To avoid construction you can access the parking lot from Ballard, the street behind Beckley.

I came in here today with one of my friends for brunch and it was pretty good. It is a pretty small place so you have to come early. We got there right before 10am so we were able to be seated immediately, but about 10 minutes later there was a line out the door. They have a patio area where you can eat also if you can’t find a place to sit on the inside. Our waitress was charming she worked our area and she served people at the bar also. She was still attentive and our food came out pretty quickly. I tried the Chicken and Biscuit, which was fried chicken on top of a biscuit with house potato, gravy and topped with an egg. It was sinfully good. I wanted a little more gravy all though I did not NEED it. The chicken and biscuit was moist and the gravy was seasoned really well. The portions are pretty big so I definitely could of shared. This is definitely a hidden gem in Oak Cliff that I have to try again.

This place was too crowed for me on a Friday afternoon. The food was good and I would come back. This would not be a weekend place for me because I don’t like to wait a long time to eat. I got the chicken and waffles. It was well season but I had to add hot sauce because I like spicy food. It was good portion for the price and I actually had to take some home. The environment was clean as best as it could for a busy place. I did not check out the bathrooms but from what I could see it was clean. Also the staff and waiters were friendly and approachable. Overall this was a good place to eat.

Overrated. Sorry, but that’s my take. I went at lunch, but the place wasn’t overly crowded. Still, I had to wait to get a seat as the guy seating people kept bypassing me and seating people who came in behind me. I finally just went and sat at the bar. Took ten minutes to get anyone’s attention and get a menu. The chicken and waffles was described to me as the best thing they have and a dish that is supposedly renown in Dallas. So I got it, expecting something between a volcanic eruption and a toe-curling you-know-what. Meh. The chicken’s breading wasn’t all that well seasoned, and the gravy really didn’t have all that much flavor. The waffle was, well… a waffle. I mean, it’s kind of hard to fuck up a waffle. Overall, it wasn’t bad, it just wasn’t all that good. I just don’t see the basis for all of the hullabaloo about the place. The food is ok, the service stinks.

Finally woke up early enough to brave the infamous J’s. Arrived at 830 with a wait for tables, considering we were a party of 2, immediately seated at bar. They offer full alcohol service much to our chagrin. Amazing variety and cannot wait to come here where I deserve the Nooner or the Kure. Our meal: Bacon: super crispy, large portion, flavor was nothing unique. Prefer Garden Café’s house cured bacon located in East Dallas Eggs: nailed it, light, fluffy and still wet Gravy for Chicken: Boom, I hate gravy but this is too die for, tons of pepper, great consistency Waffle: excellent flavor sweet with crisp outer and soft pillowy inside. Chicken: great presentation, crisp outside a little dry inside(overcooked). Minimal seasoning but appropriate considering the gravy. Waitstaff: Perfectly attentive and timely. Bartender was fun and energetic and took great care of us.

If I could give this place 5MILLION stars, I would! This place is SO good. We came here with a group of 6 around 10AM on Saturday. This place is very small inside and probably seats around 40 people max and that’s with everyone’s elbows touching. When we came in, we were immediately greeted by the most perfect waitress, Katie. She was so kind, patient, and overall just really happy to be serving us! Even when the place was completely packed, she still gave our table the perfect amount of attention. Not overbearing and not total neglect. So great they had happy hour at brunch, most of us ordered $ 5 mimosas, the berry drink, or their bloody mary. They had a small bloody mary bar where you can put in your toppings of choice. I’m not a bloody mary drinker myself but my friend sure enjoyed his. Mimosas are pretty hard to do wrong so theirs was good. The berry drink was also very good and very dangerous because you can barely taste the alcohol. I only took a couple sips and I totally felt a light buzz from it afterwards haha but then again, I am a super light weight. All of us ordered the infamous chicken and waffles. My friend and I decided to share ours. Even though they split our orders into 2 separate plates, it still looked like a full serving. We each got half a huge waffle and a full chicken breast. It was the perfect amount for both of us. Their chicken is so tender and seasoned to perfection. The pepper gravy was the perfect compliment to this meal. I loved their gravy so much, that I even dipped some scrambled eggs with them. This gravy was no joke. I don’t what secret ingredient they put in it but I just couldn’t have enough. Definitely ask for your gravy on the side because you don’t want to make your waffle soggy. Love the environment, the service, and most definitely love the food!!!

Sweet baby Jesus… This place is amazing. They don’t take reservations, so it’s a first come first serve basis. That being said it is SO worth the wait. The inside o it seats about 40 people, and that’s including the«bar» seating. But the portions are enormous! Seriously, for under $ 30 my girlfriend and I split an entire chicken and waffle — I think they actually used an entire chicken… And a turkey sausage and egg scramble. We definitely couldn’t finish but we came close. And that gravy on the chicken and waffles was magical. Pure heaven. They also have decent patio seating too.

My husband and I were on our way to dinner last night after picking up my mother in law, and planned to eat at Spiral Diner(she recently had to take meat out of her diet, so it was a safe choice). She had been telling us how good French fries and a veggie burger sounded when I realized this place was in the same parking lot! My neighbor had actually told me how good their veggie burger was just last week, so when we suggested to eat here instead she loved the idea. She’s recovering from hip surgery and had a challenge getting up the stairs and inside because they don’t have a ramp, but once settled she was excited and ready to eat. Our server was hilarious, cracking jokes with us right away and making us feel like regulars. We all liked the inside too which appeared to have once been a private residence. It’s nice to see Oak Cliff turning around and becoming a trendy spot again. Both I and my mother in law ordered the veggie burgers, while my husband ventured to the naughty side and got chicken and waffles. A few minutes after taking our order, she came back to tell us they only had one veggie patty left, so of course I let my MIL have it and switched my order to a regular cheeseburger. Once the food came you could have heard a pin drop. It was so delicious we were all too busy shoving our faces to remember to have a conversation. Their veggie burger by the way truly is awesome. I can’t wait to come back and order it for myself! Everything tastes like it was made from scratch and my husband dubbed his meal the best chicken and waffles he’s ever had. They came smothered in a white pepper gravy and he finished it off with hot sauce, as you do. For three dinners, two drinks, and one beer our total was around $ 40 so that’s pretty cool as well. We will most definitely be return customers.

I really hate to do this to a local business… but the service was just deplorable. It was a chilly Sunday morning and we opted to sit outside because it was a hell of a wait indoors. Breakfast tacos for around $ 10… you get 2 flower tortillas with mostly egg rolled up and barely warm. The potatoes were also not even warm when they got to me. I had to beg for coffee, wait for utensils… it just wasn’t worth it to sit in the cold. My friend had a burger and he said it was good, but also agreed it wasn’t worth it. Not one table outside that day had decent service. If I ever went back, and that’s a big if… I would never sit outside again.
