I went to Thomas Avenue Beverage company recently for a friends birthday and learned an important lesson: don’t order the burger because they will char the crap out of it. When I told the waitress she gave me half off my check, so at least they owned up to their mistake. The beers are no bargin and all the food seem to just mediocre. I never tried their sushi, but people said it was pretty good. Here is my point: their is much better food in Dallas at this price, but this place could work in a pinch.

I’ve actually eaten here a few times but never left a review until now. The food is great, service is quick and friendly, and the pricing is affordable. They also have a full bar to accommodate any drink requests or needs. They also have EXCELLENT sushi here which is a surprise considering the type of food they serve. It’s a great spot for a light lunch or for a few drinks and a bite to eat at lunch. Only downside to this place would be its not very kid friendly as it gets later and turns more into a bar than a restaurant. Not like kids arent welcome or would have a bad time or anything and they do have a kids menu so it’s not like they wouldn’t have anything to eat! Either way it’s a great spot with a lot of history and good food. They’ve stuck around for a reason!

We came for lunch and sat outside for 10 minutes and no one came and said anything to us or brought us a menu, so we left and went somewhere else.

Great bar with an awesome patio but the food here has gone so down hill I won’t eat here. Would recommend this bar for the patio and drinks.

I would never have thought of this place for sushi, but they have a great selection. The rest of the menu is really good as well. They have my favorite summer beverage, The Hummingbird. You have to try it, you can’t beat champagne, St. Germaine and soda water! Patio is my favorite spot and I love doing Sunday Fundays or happy hour here!

I visited TABC because I realized my groupon for their newly expanded sushi menu was about to expire. After arriving, I noticed Tuesday was half priced wine night so my friends and I ordered a bottle. We picked out a sushi feast and our server asked us if we wanted separate checks and I mentioned we had the groupon so he could just put it all together and we would figure it out later. A few minutes later he comes back and tells us that if we use the groupon our option to have half priced wine was voided. I told him that didn’t make any sense since we weren’t using the groupon to purchase the wine, per the state law. He said it states that the groupon is not good for«happy hour or other specials» but again, that makes total sense if what I was purchasing with the groupon was on sale but the sushi was regular price. So he stood there and said«pick which deal you want to use» like we were on some kind of game show. We chose the groupon deal since it was about to expire, but it left an awkward vibe the rest of our dinner between us and the server. He also insisted on taking my phone with him to process the discount — that has never happened before anywhere else. They either scan it with their phone or write down the voucher #. I was not comfortable with a stranger taking my iPhone to the back of a restaurant, especially after he said«you can delete all the inappropriate pictures if you need to first». I had never encountered such a problem using a groupon in the past. The sushi on the other hand, was really good! The owner used to own Tom Toms in West Village a few years back and I was very sad that it closed down so I am happy I can get my Tom Toms sushi fix once again! We had the Family roll, the Tom Tom, Mexican, eel roll, and a veggie roll for my non-fish-eating friend. My favorite was the Family roll — it basically had every kind of fish topped with crab… yum yum! The Mexican roll had guacamole! It was definitely a type of roll I had never encountered before and it had a nice little kick to it! The Tom Tom was wrapped in cucumber instead of rice and seaweed and it was very refreshing. I would order all of them again! The other 2 were pretty standard. I didn’t have any of the veggie roll but my friend didn’t have any complaints. I’ve been here several times and I think it has a great patio, and is great for a big group happy hour or a night out with a large group. I attempted to come for brunch once, but left after viewing the menu and realizing it was a special brunch menu that totally neglected the«UNCH» part and only offered breakfast items. Poor lunch food got kicked to the curb. I would give the food 4 stars and the service 1 star for a total of 2.5(I rounded up to a 3 since they had a nice patio, and I am nice).

I’ve been here twice. The first was an amazing experience, only had drinks, but wanted to come back again. The food looked great. Staff was amazing. The second time, about 6 months later, I was kind of disappointed. The taps were down, but still offered soda based drinks(same co2 setup, everything was mega flat) we asked about what happy hour consisted of, and our waitress said«well, it ends at 7» there were only a couple of people in there, and when we noted that we still had 15 minutes to spare, she rolled her eyes at us. The food was also a dissapointment. It looked good, but was just ‘ehhh’. The sushi tower was good, but a dissapointment when our waitress smashed it down and tossed it all together instead of letting us do it. I dunno… it just didn’t meet our first experience.

I just moved to the area and am quickly trying out several of the neighborhood restaurants. The Groupon for TABC that I came across pushed me here real fast! On my first visit my wife and I has sushi. She’s from So Cal and knows her sushi… She loved it as did I! We tried 3 different rolls and several individual pieces. All were good. I guess they have an AYCE on sushi Wednesday nights from 6 – 8 if you really want to load up… Given our first experience was a good one, we recently went out with another couple. Scanning the local spots TABC came up again so we went. We all ordered something different and all devoured our meals! So good that my buddy insisted on telling the chef himself. Both times great service. Both times great food. Decent value. I don’t rate 5 stars that often but TABC is worthy. The only odd thing about this place is the name… I thought it was a brewery but one waitress pointed out that their brewers was across the street(there was a Coors truck parked there at the time).

The patio and beer selection are great but the food was disappointing. I went using a Groupon(Not valid on alcohol and if you’re there during HH, you can only get one discount. Either the Groupon or HH prices). A friend and I got the Steak Fries trio. Two of the sauces were okay and the garlic one tasted… odd. I had the turkey club which was fine. I’d be willing to go back again and hang out on the patio but I’d probably skip the food.

I will likely have to go back to TABC for dinner but my one non-eating and lunch time were good experiences but not great. The location is really cool and the big patio is a great location to sit and have a drink but the fairly limited draft beer selection and the limited lunch menu mean that I did not find the stellar experience I was looking for. I really like TABC more than three stars would suggest. The food was good at lunch. It was an excellent burger but I went to a bar known for excellent food so I wanted something that you could not find just anywhere and at lunch they did not offer it. I was there on a beautiful winter day on the patio and the staff was overwhelmed. Service was slow but I get that they were swamped and I did not count off too much for that. The servers were friendly and the food definitely did not come out slowly due to their laziness. They were moving. Damn were they moving! The atmosphere and service deserve a better rating than three stars but the lack of really good beers on tap, no Texas beer other than Shiner, very little interesting from Europe and just generally a blah selection plus the limited lunch menu means that at this time I cannot go beyond 3 stars. Maybe eating here at night will change my mind but surely they can provide a more expansive and interesting menu for lunch and off course they could add some more interesting beers on tap anytime. TABC along with the Knodding Donkey, The Londoner and Si Tapas can all be easily reached by taking the McKinney Avenue Trolley to Allen Street and hoofing it probably a little less than.5 mile to the corner of State and Allen.

We went on a Monday with a Groupon without checking Unilocal beforehand. As other reviewers have said, you can’t use a Groupon during Monday half-price entrée day, so you either have to give up the half-priced entrée deal or not use the Groupon. We opted to do the half-priced, because the food was very tasty for pub food. I think the chef is actually going for a pub grub, but high quality, menu. My boyfriend and I went for dinner after reviewing the menu briefly online. We ordered the the buffalo fries to share and I had the honey miso salmon. He ordered the meatloaf. My honey miso salmon was good, but not great, however the coconut rice and green beans made it all better. The buffalo fries were also a very tasty take on pub grub fries. My boyfriend seemed to enjoy his meatloaf and said he is excited to go back to use our Groupon. Given the prices and the fact that it is truly just a pub grub menu, I will only go on the Monday half-price entrée night(except to use my Groupon).

Other than the large patio conducive for any outdoor day drinking festivities, this bar doesn’t have much more appeal. The food does not justify the pretty steep prices for bar food. I did enjoy, however, the brie and chicken pesto quesadillas. The service seemed as if were inconveniencing them for giving them business. When we notified them of the tap beer being flat, there was no apology or need to help out — just a look of annoyance.

Went to TABC for dinner last night because A) I had a Groupon, B) the weather was nice. Much to my surprise, the Monday night special was half off most entrees. Dilemna– use the Groupon(which was not eligible with nightly specials) or get the half-off special and come back another night for the Groupon?! Not a bad problem to have, if you ask me! We went with the half-off specials and got the Chicken and Dumplings for myself, and the Blue Cheese Stuffed Tenderloin for the man. We also split and order of Truffle Oil Mac N Cheese, which was not half off. NOM, NOm, NOm! OMG– the Mac n cheese was literally the best I’ve had in Dallas(maybe the best anywhere!). No lie! It came with chunks of bacon, cherry tomatoes, and asparagus and the truffle oil made a yumilicious flavor! My Chicken and Dumplings were killer! It wasn’t your traditional soupy fare. It was a rotisserie style chicken breast on top of doughy dumplings in a tasty white gravy sauce! Holy cow– this was so delicious! The man thought the tenderloin was pretty good for the price. No Nick and Sam’s tenderloin, but darn good nonetheless! The patio was perfect for the nice weather and there were several TVs for the man to watch Monday Night Football on. It’s nor really a restaurant but more of a bar with excellent food! The beer and wine list is great, as well. The price was especially good for the Monday night special. I’ll have no problem going back to use my Groupon!

Many a summer night have been spent on the TABC patio(which was redone summer of 2010 — or maybe it was 09– either way the patio is legit). It’s nice to have the fans and misters during the summer, and the inside is pretty big too so everyone can cram in during the winter if it’s brutally cold… for Texas anyway. The service can be really slow depending on how busy it is on the given night, but my guy friends like it because you can see a tv from almost anywhere in the bar, inside or out. The food is pretty good! I’m always a little weary of venturing outside of loaded cheese fries in a bar, but the brisket quesadillas, pizzas(served until 1:30), and jalapeño turkey melt have been ordered by yours truly multiple times.

One word: evolution. For a while, TABC was the only show in Uptown(near State & Allen). Now, as new restaurants pop up(Nodding Donkey, Londoner) or existing ones revamp(State & Allen Lounge), TABC stays the same. This might be ideal for some folks, but I thought the food and patio were just average. And with all of the new spots(or evolving ones) around it, one would think that TABC would step up their game as well. But while the migas at brunch and the service were passable, I couldn’t help but wonder if this place could put together something better.

1 star for location 3 stars for brunch I’ve been here before just to have a drink or two and never thought it was anything to write home about. BUT… their brunch is off the chain. I came here for brunch last weekend with a group of people. Don’t miss the french toast, breakfast tacos, and mimosas! The mimosas come complete with fresh squeezed OJ, which was good, but overpowered the champagne. So, we asked our server to just bring us champagne and she hooked it up. We each got a pint glass of straight champagne and she put a pint glass of OJ in the center for us to share. Perfect! Delicious! Fun! I’ll definitely be back for brunch :)

TABC looks pretty cool and has a good patio, but my brunch tasted like boring hotel food and we got tons of extra charges on our bill. I’d say, okay for drinks, but don’t visit primarily for the food. I somehow expected more from this place.

I went here for lunch the other day, and had a totally different experience than I did here at night. Despite the night and day difference, I am still giving this place two stars, namely because it’s overpriced. It’s $ 5 for a pint of Shiner, which is too much, but it’s $ 8 for a burger. This is their lunch time price, and that is no bueno. Theycooked the meat how I requested, however, the burger was greasy and messy: not what I would expect an $ 8 burger to be. This was my second visit, and I would not come back here for lunch or for drinks unless it was a social function I couldn’t get out of — like my old man’s parole party. Damn him and his Uptown taste.

This time, we got a much more experienced server and it made ALL of the difference! I met a group of kickball buddies here for our«End of Season” party. We sat inside because it was too durn hot and we didn’t feel like melting outside. It was a Wednesday night, and only about half of the place was full. We ordered several appetizers for the table, include the spinach dip, queso and stuffed avocados. The queso was my favorite… killer! I wasn’t expecting much when we ordered it, but I tasted it and it was unlike any bowl of queso I’ve ever had. There was definitely some sort of magic zing in it! We also took advantage of happy hour prices for part of our visit, and I walked away spending under my «budget.» TABC, this is the kind of place I knew you could be. Way to go, you’ve won me over!

Nikki B and I were Unilocaling away at the Crooked Treehouse when our stomachs started grumbling. Lunchtime! Nikki suggested we hit up TABC for a tasty meal. She said it was a short 3 block walk. In true Dallas fashion I had on my big heels(and big hair– thanks to Dallas humidity) so even a 3 block walk wasn’t too fun so I was pretty psyched when we arrived… and also pretty hungry! Our waitress greeted us and let us know she was new and in training. Nikki and I looked each other with a knowing glance that something would be messed up in our order. But the main problem was placing our order cause the new waitress was way more concerned with filling ketchup bottles than finding out what we wanted to eat. However, once we reminded her she had customers our food came out pretty fast. Caprese sandwich for me and instead of a salad or fries I asked for some tortilla soup. The sandwich and the soup were uhmazing– I ate up both within minutes. And Nikki ate her delish looking turkey melt just as fast. By the end of the meal we were stuffed, happy, and had even forgiven new waitress for her slowness.
