Been in m ore than once and have been consistently disappointed. I judge a Mexican restaurant by my Tia Nate’s beans and my Mama Lupita’s enchiladas. In Gonzalez, the enchiladas were watery, the burritos were made with meat that didn’t taste fresh, and the frijoles were tasteless. The service was good but the food was wanting.

Great food and huge portions! Best Mexican food we have found in Humboldt being from southern California. As a vegetarian I always order a massive supreme chile rellano burrito covered in green sauce. It literally weighs 10 lbs and is a huge meal for two! My boyfriend has tried almost all their meats on tacos and always leaves happy. Taco Tuesday till 3pm and maybe Happy Hour from 2/4−6pm(but beers on tap!)?? Fast service and the waitress/hostess always reminds me if I forget to order the green sauce on top! Best part way better then frustrating Ritas and open Sundays!

The restaurant always looks clean, the people are friendly, the food is good– and I’ll be back! I’ve eaten at Gonzalez twice now, and have been very happy both times. The first time was after walking out of Ritas… so maybe my expectations were low, but the wait staff was very friendly and we had Modelo Negras in front of us within a few minutes, even though our orders were to-go. We finished our beers and went home to discover generous portions, delicious carne asada and carnitas burritos that were gigantic, and a side of sour cream, gauc, salsa and chips. We were very pleased, easily one of the best burritos I’ve had in Humboldt. We called again a few weeks later, specifically for the giant Burrito Especial, and we got two chicken tacos as a side. I was able to walk right up to the register with no wait time for my meal! I was a little disappointed in the chicken taco, as it was pretty bland, and sadder still that I had also ordered chicken in my Burrito Especial, but live and learn. The flavor of the tortillas and beans that they use more than made up for the boring chicken — I’ll stick to the Carne Asada or Carnitas from now. I also really appreciate that they have a website with a full menu and pictures. Yay for easy ordering!

A sweet little place, quiet for an early dinner on Valentine’s Day. Less than $ 25 for two combo plates with a HUGE chile relleno, very nice spicy rice and some genuinely excellent refried pinto beans. Service was very quick, and the atmosphere was fun. I prefer a bit more bite, but my husband, who claims to hate them, finished his rice and beans, which is high praise indeed.

So I won a gift certificate for 20 $ on the radio to Gonzales Mexican on 5th street. I called to get take out and I wanted a taco salad. First. The lady hung up on me. Then i called back and asked for a taco salad with black beans and she said they don’t serve black beans. Ok… so I said ok regular beans do you have grilled chicken? NO! was her answer… alright just give me the taco salad how it comes then.(maybe I was being picky but every other Mexican place in Humboldt has these options and has no problem doing it for me) so I go in and there is no one in there and the lady ignores me for 5 minutes then walks up and says taco salad? 11 $. So I hand her my gift card she was such so rude!!! No smile or thank you for your business or anything! on top of everything apparently the card is one time use which she didn’t tell me so I didn’t get to use the whole 20 $!!! This is illegal!

I had a wonderful lunch here the other day, I decided to try it out after having horrible service at RiTas for too long and I am happy that I did. Food was great and were really big portions. The staff was friendly and nice but one of the best parts was how affordable it was. I would recommend everyone to try it out sometime! I’ll be going here more often for their delicious tamales and tacos!

The food and portions were wonderful, our waitress could have used a visit from the«happy fairy»…she seemed very put out that we were there… no customer service skills whatsoever. We all ordered margaritas but were told they were out of tequila… ummmm…how does a Mexican restaurant run out of tequila???

Bad service, flavorless Pozole, crappy iceberg lettuce. Nobody checked on us to see if everything was ok– which it wasn’t. Nobody noticed we had no more napkins… Nobody noticed anything. Never going back.

Best Mexican food in Humboldt County by far! Everything I’ve had from here has been delicious and affordable! The flavors in all their dishes are well developed and authentic. The tortillas are homemade and thick and wonderful. Tacos are cheap, I always get al pastor, and served with a spicy and fresh pico de gallo. Try the chile relleno it’s only four bucks and a huge pepper stuffed full of cheesey goodness, totally big enough for a meal. Tamales are bomb too!

The nachos appetizer we ordered was big enough to feed an army. The beans were way salty and the service was poor. They need portion control. The place was empty… I won’t eat here again

We were SUUUUPERIMPRESSED! Really great taste! Very clean restaurant! My sister loved their carnitas tacos and their chicken taco salad! I loved their fajita burrito! Traveling up and down the coast on highway 101 for my 34th birthday road trip. My sister and I found this little place after looking on Unilocal. The pictures looked pretty good but the reviews were mixed so we were a little iffy! We are so happy we tried them out! Thank you for your excellent service!

I wanted to like Gonzales after several recent terrible service experiences at Rita’s across the street. Margaritas were underwhelming, too sweet. Everyone at our table speculated that the mix was from a bottle. The food experiences at our table was mixed. One dish was too dry to be palatable, another was a mediocre salad(steak was tasty but salad was clearly from a bag), and the third was an excellent Chile Verde. The space is clean and bright. Table and booth/chair configuration leave a bit to be desired; feels cramped in areas. They have a daily 1600 – 1800 hrs happy hour at which bottle beer and draft beer is $ 2/ea.

I’m surprised by all the 4 star reviews. I was still hungry & couldn’t bring myself to eat anymore. I’ll stick with Rita’s. Enough said.

Grate place good food. Chile verde el mejor que a aprovado. Machaca good.. Salsa a little bland. . The best part was the service.. . Downside they give u a order of tortillas for $ 2 and only two tortillas. . An order should be 3. overall I’m happy this place was open befor 11am. Not from this town and everywhere we went it was closed.

Love coming into this new restaurant! I have fallen in love with the tamales that they serve. We have gone in on music nights and everyone has a great time. Time after time, the foods great. Always clean and the staff is very accommodating to my picky eating!

Overall: Would avoid. Pros: — Decent salsa — Friendly service — Clean, nice décor Cons: — Very heavy, greasy food. Nothing seemed very fresh. — Flavor was only so-so. — I got a taco salad and the fried tortilla was very greasy and tasted dirty, as if it had been fried in old oil — Guacamole in the tostada was brownish, seemed old I’d try another Eureka Mexican restaurant in the future.

This place is really, really good. Went with a larger group, so I was able to see what everyone else had ordered. Very large portions, so a great value. All but one of us ordered of the lunch special menu, and all of lest satisfied. The one who ordered from the regular menu, had to take some food with her. Service was excellent. Food was delicious, portions were more than sufficient, I will be back for sure. $ 2.00 beer during happy hour… that is nice.

Not bad. Definitely one of the better Mexican places in Humboldt, right behind Taco Bell, which is untouchable as far as Mexican food in these parts. Lady working seemed to be more concerned with finishing her meal rather than checking on us. 3 stars even though I won’t be going back. The cooks did a good job and the place was clean.

I enjoyed my food for 3 solid days. Definitely get the Taco Mexicano and the Chile Relleno. Their Chile Verde is delicious an the bean and cheese burrito is perfect. Eureka! I found real Mexican food in my hometown! When it gets cold I plan on going back for some of their albondigas soup!
