This review is mostly based on Don Alex great food taste. I lived around the area for sometime and I can honestly say the chicken is phenomenal, as well as the price. Things they need to improve? The whole idea of putting 18% tip on the bill without asking bugs me. I am not a cheap person but the tip should be earned(by default everyone should leave at least 14% or more) and not feel like it is established. Like other Unilocaler’s have voiced out, if you don’t look carefully on the bill most likely you will end up tipping double… Which is Okey if deserve it, but should not feel like someone is trying to pull a fast one on you. Other than that, food still great lol

The chicken and rice here is flawless. The platanos maduros could use work but overall it’s an amazing and affordable restaurant for Hispanic dishes.

Wonderful service. I go with my child all the time and they are amazing to us. They never rush you & they treat kids with respect! The sangria is delish :-) Try the fried calamari. Better than anywhere else in the neighborhood. And the avocado salad is fantastic!

Their food is a blessing, place is clean and notable to eat. I always go for my favorite dish lomo saltado de carne. For anyone interested I do recommend this place.

Don Alex has one off menu $ 7+tax+tip for authentic south american prepared soup salad appetizer+rice weekday lunch special you can enjoy with proper dishes cutlery and fast tablecloth service. I look forward to trying more as they change daily, and will upgrade to 5 stars should I find something remarkable here.

The chicken is always properly cooked which is very important; they also try to accommodate you with off the menu items if you ask them. I’ve had the rotisserie chicken and also grilled chicken breast which was juicy! I left a star out because they run out of tres leches rapidly and you should never run out of tres leches!

The service was good. The waiters were polite and attentive. The food came quickly enough and was better than okay. One glass of their Sangria(as tasty as it was) knocked me out like nothing I have experienced before, almost like I was drugged. It also gave me a headache a few hours later. My main issue was that there was a 18% gratuity included on two-person bill. I have never experienced that before. I almost missed it and would have paid over 36% for a tip. That felt very dishonest and made me not wanting to go there again.

This is my favorite place in the neighborhood. Their saltado is amazing, their chicken falls off the bone and their chicharron de pescado is yummy! Oh and the service is superb. It is definitely a place where you feel at home.

I am fan of the food, the service? –not so much. The food here is delicious and better than all the other Peruvian places that I have tried. The skirt steak is delicious, so is the Calamari, the seafood cerviche and their chicken is hands down the best and most addictive Peruvian chicken you will even have. Their green hot sauce hits all the right spots, too bad they started charging extra for it. I have dined in and ordered from this place numerous times, the food quality is always consistent and you get what you expect. The staff is not the most warm or helpful but mostly depends on their mood or how the day has been. The ambiance is nice and cozy and its right off of queens boulevard just as you get off the subway station. Great food and great location! Definitely worth a try.

I come here so often to pick up lunch and eat so much of their chicken that I feel like I’m turning into one. My regular meal is white meat chicken with a small salad. Sometimes I add maduros to the order if I’m feeling adventurous. I LOVE their spicy green sauce for the chicken — but it’s annoying that they started charging for extra(which I rarely do, but still). Their salchipapas always hit the spot as well. Their carbs(rice and beans or french fries) always taste very fresh and tasty. If you like fried seafood, try their Jalea! As far as the service, I’ve had my ups and downs but now I think all the people working there are pretty good. I appreciate that most of them recognize me as a regular and know my order. Some are friendlier than others but I’ve never had anyone be rude. Naturally, they get packed around lunch and dinner so expect to wait a few for your food. If you’re taking out, make sure you order 10 – 15 minutes ahead of time and it will be ready for you on the counter when you get there.

I usually order To Go from this place and I have never been disappointed. The food is always great and abundant. They have a great variety of choices but I usually go for the chicken or the Milanesa which I like very much. The people are always very friendly and courteous. I will definitely keep coming back here.

Food and service was just amazing. First, the service. They gave us a lot of time to order and was very polite. Even after we finished eating, they didn’t kick us out or imply that we should be leaving soon. Our group continued chatting for quite some time, we were there from 630pm to 900pm on a Friday evening. They didn’t push the bill on us or anything. Whether it be perhaps there were no additional customers lining up at the door or perhaps this is how they regularly treat their customers, I was very satisfied. They would occasionally check on you to tale away dirty plates and make sure we had enough to drink. The food came out quick and smelling amazing. The dish my wife and I ordered was the meal, there’s 3 set meals on their menu. We order #2, which came with a whole chicken, salad, fried hot dogs over fries, and yellow rice. All that for $ 22. My wife and I usually eat a lot, but we did have leftovers. Great place to go if you want amazing food with a great price tag. Nice place to hangout with friends.

My friend and I came in on a friday night around 6:30 and there were many tables available. We started with the mussel appetizer and sangria. They were DELICIOUS! We both had the chicken, salad, yuka fries and beans. All was delicious, especially the fried yuka! If you like French fries, you will love fried yuka. For dessert we shared the chocolate lava cake. Again, absolutely delicious. The only thing I forgot to ask for was the green sauce, which I remembered at the end of the meal so I took it home. The customer service was great. As was the ambiance. I will definitely be back. Finally something walking distance that is not Russian

I love me some Peruvian food and Don Alex hit the spot. It’s a tiny but nicely decorated spot along Queens Boulevard. I had the Lomo Saltado, which is steak, fries tomatoes and onions that was delicious. The steak was tender and flavorful. My friend had tallarines verdes, which came with steak and boiled potatoes. She had no complaints either. The service was great, staff was attentive and nice, the tables had red carnations, which was a very nice touch.

I Am currently on my couch… Immobile due to the food coma after ending dinner at this place, and it feels sooooo good! Don Alex is slowly becoming one of my favorite restaurant in the neighborhood. The sangria is great and a great pour. It’s tasty and hits the spot every time. The Peruvian toasted corn they serve on the table to nibble on is complete crack with the green sauce. I asked the server how I can make this and he told me I had to get special corn from Peru first. Love it. The food is awesome too. The chicken is juicy and is cut into four pieces. The combo plate comes with yellow rice(fluffy), bean(served in a sauce), and I usually request sweet plantains(the bomb diggity), oh and the salad topped with a sliced avocado. All it was eaten with my bare hands and maybe a fork for the sides. This place is also very appealing with its romantic ambiance and wide front windows. Reminds me very much to the original Pio Pio, and some might shoot me for saying this, but they are equally good. Bring a date, as long as u don’t mind getting a bit messy with the food. I didn’t like that the menu is very playful looking sort of like a take out tex-mex joint. If they changed the menu to crisp white paper with black print, would definitely give the place a boost in class. Can’t complain about wholesome good food, clean bathrooms and nice service. I’m scared I may start looking like a chicken soon!

I an fortunate enough to have experienced Don Alex’s food via two branches located not too far from where I live. This made me especially happy to find one not too far from where my mother lived. Chinese food is great, but now and then you want something different! This Don Alex is right near the Rego Park train station on the R line, meaning if you get out at the right exit it’s only a few steps away making it a perfect location for grabbing food after work or when visiting. This Don Alex is smaller than the two other ones I know, but they make the most of their space. When you enter it’s dimly lit but in a nice way. There are enough seats for at least 25 people if not more. Towards the back is the cashier station and bar. The place is nicely decorated and has a nice, comfortable feel to it. The staff is very welcoming and quick to take your order. Generally when I order a combination with a whole chicken, beans, rice and salad it takes about ten minutes to come out but I’m okay with that because the food is always fresh and the chicken is never dried out. The food at this branch of Don Alex may actually be slightly *better* than the other two that I normally go to. The chicken is moist and very well seasoned while the side dishes(including boiled yucca, rice and salad) all taste great and never seem like they’ve been sitting around. The yucca is not mushy, it’s just right. The rice is perfectly cooked and the salad is crisp. The green sauce included with the chicken is no Pio Pio sauce, but it’s still really darn good! Another great thing is that the aforementioned meal is only little over $ 20, which is a bargain for an outside meal that can feed four people. Good prices, nice location, great food and a pleasant atmosphere make this one of my favorite places in the area.

The pisco sour was great. We ended up ordering the combo which came with a whole chicken, rice, sweet plantains and an avocado salad. This was perfect for two people. The green sauce was flavorful and had a good kick of pepper. Since I’ve been spoiled with pio pio, I thought the chicken was missing something extra. Overall, the staff was very helpful and friendly. Also, the setting was relax and casual.
