Last time– REALLY– I will eat here. Friends wanted to go by, for old times sake. I should have given it a pass. The food is inconsistent, the service is indifferent at best, and the all the staff there are obviously afraid of the owner. Pretty much JUST a local bar now.

This place is way too expensive for being so average. The food lacked anything special and we will not be back. I feel bad for giving this place a bad review when the staff was so friendly and accommodating. Bryan was very professional and kind.

I visited Michael’s the other day for a lunch meeting and was surprised to find such a cool little restaurant tucked into the corner of a dated strip mall. Sitting down we were greeted by a helpful waitress who was eager to share her favorite dishes. Taking one of her suggestions, I ordered the pecan crusted chicken breast, stuffed with goat cheese, finished with garlic butter and nested atop a mound of sour cream infused mashed potatoes. If my description didn’t sell you, let me confirm, the dish was great. The atmosphere is relaxed and quiet, allowing for a peaceful lunch, free of disturbances. My only gripes are: A) It’s a pricey lunch. $ 15+ for 90% of the menu B) The table was wobbly. A minor annoyance Overall, a great spot. I look forward to visiting again, especially if I’m not the one paying.

My first impression of the restaurant was the introduction to the Michael’s bar. I was delighted, the bartender was prompt, the drink was generous yet not«toe curling», music was soft not over bearing! It seemed to be the local bar with regulars well greeted by the staff. I first ordered the lettuce wraps and quite frankly they seemed bland and thickened to paste like firmness, blah. We next tried to order the«Oysters Rockefeller» however they we’re out and had been. I gave up, now I will try Michael’s“again, for its not fair to judge by appetizers and it was the month of May and last time I checked it doesn’t have a «r» in its spelling. I promise to try it again and adjust my consideration! BTW I had some oysters down the street that same night.

This place always has good salads and a great staff! I do love the food and patio but the bar area has too much of a bar feel that sometimes deters me from coming in for to go! I do like Toi, who humors me while I try to decide on which salad or healthy option I want. If you can spare the calories try their nachos because they are to die for with their creamy sauce. If you want to be good stick to a salad or their healthy option of chicken/burger patty with tomato and cottage cheese.

Kitchen Nightmares! Michael’s does not know how to expedite food out of their kitchen! The rude manager explained how they get«backed up» when busy. That is really not the customers problem he needs to fix his kitchen and stop giving excuses. After waiting over an hour for the food and hearing excuses and rude comments from the manager we will not be back.

Had a big email promo for St Patrick’s Day including ½ price wine all day. Other than the soup the food was awful. Tried to redeem with an Irish coffee but they had no clue. «Corker» was they«Forgot» to discount our wine 50%. Obvious what they they were trying to pull.

We will start here: AWESOMESAUCE! Get in Here! First, we were looking for New Year’s Eve events. I wanted to find a hidden chef’s table! Instead they had a Prix Fixe menu that evening. We tried it anyway. I had forgotten this place was here, and I’m incredible happy I stumbled back across it for many reasons! First… anything decadent, wonderful, and hidden in Fort Worth we LOVE! This place nails it all! Second. they have a Chef’s Table. Of course, as Michael put it(yes boys and girls, this is FW! The owner/chef will come out and speak with you!)…actually… let’s call that 2nd! Third, they have a Chef’s Table! And as Michael the owner/chef said… it was covered in black eyed peas! In small batches you could take home and cook in New Year’s Day to ensure wealth and propsperity in your life in the New Year! Thank you for thinking of us Michael! Fourth… FEEDME! As Michael told me, he learned from Jimmy and George Bannos of Heaven on Seven and the Purple Pig(Chicago, IL) fame. Just walk in and say«Feed Me» and the chef will prepare a meal for you… you eat, get stuffed, have some local Ft. Worth Firestone & Robertson TX Whiskey, and some local FW Times Ten Cellars’ Wine, pay and be delirously happy for days to come! Fifth, FW Prix Fixe menu… because fine dining isn’t just for Dallas! Unbelievable menu: Northeast Shellfish bisque, Orange Jalapeño Quail tamales, Texas Surf and Turf filet mignon w shrimp and jalapeño goat cheese grits. People have died for less than trying to get these grits of my plate-we aren’t friends, get your own! Pan-seared Raspberry Chipotle Duck Breast and for dessert Apricot crepes, Brandy Alexander’s plus a whole lot more! If you are looking for Funky Town’s gastronomic BLISS… and you havent’ been here… you have no idea what you are missing! 5STARS… can we get 6???

This is a Fort Worth gem. It has a cozy atmosphere with friendly service. The pecan crusted goat cheese stuffed chicken breast is a must try and my friend loved his pork loin. The goat cheese tart with pesto crusted toast is excellent. The crab cake is so so. For a nice, rich ending get the white chocolate bread pudding. The warm fireplace on this cold night made it extra special.

We found this place on Open Table and decided to head in one day for drinks to check it out before committing to a lunch or dinner… kinda glad we made that decision. There is nothing wrong with Michael’s, but it was a little tired and the menu wasn’t very innovative. We thoroughly enjoyed our drinks at the bar though.

First visit to Michael’s on the recommendation of a friend, and we(family of 4) walked in on a Sunday evening. This review is going to be a bit all over the place, so follow what you can. Ambiance is fine, with an open floor plan in the restaurant and the bar set off to another part of the space. It was ½ full and quiet at 7p on a Sunday, so not sure what the vibe is when it’s busy. The patrons looked to be folks that live in the neighborhood and probably come here regularly. The whole place has that sort of casual, ‘been-here-a-bunch’ kind of feel, where regulars are their main source of revenue. Our waiter was ‘ok’, as he wasn’t engaging or personable but did the base-line of information delivery and order taking. Bread, water, drinks all came when they should have, and the 1 roll we were given was excellent with the table-provided olive oil. None of the staff seemed really enamored to be working there, but maybe that’s due to a slow Sunday. There’s no kid menus, or options that were offered for our 8&10 year old, which is fine by us, but notable for anyone expecting chicken tenders or mac & cheese. We ordered salmon on a bed of spaghetti for the kids to split, and then ordered individual salads for the wife and I, and ordered the crab cake entrée to split. In short, the food was EXCELLENT. The kids’ salmon was very tasty, and their spaghetti was clearly fresh pasta in a light lemon butter that was perfect with the fish. We took most of the pasta home and we’re glad we did — it made for a gourmet lunch the next day. The salads were good — a little small for $ 7 or $ 8 but enough and very fresh. Our crab cake dish was outstanding, both the crabcakes themselves and the side of fresh veggies that we sauteed in some kind of goodness. Again, light but very savory. They hit us for a $ 7.50 split plate charge for my wife and I to share the crab cakes, but did not get us for a split plate charge for the kids. Overall the tab(including tip) came to $ 95 for two entrees(one split-plate fee), two salads, soft drinks and a glass of wine.

I ordered the crab cake dish. When I asked the waiter how the sauce was, he told me it was spicy with chillies in it, and really good. It was one of the most horrible dishes I’ve ever tasted in a restaurant. The sauce was really sweet, and I couldn’t even taste the crab cakes. It was like eating pieces of an unknown meat with caramel sauce. I wanted to send the dish back but we were in a hurry and didn’t have time to wait for another order. Anyway, I simply felt like I wasted those $ 20+ I spent.

I ate the most DISGUSTING salad ever here. So you wonder why the heck are you giving them 2 stars? Because john and a decent pork chop in some fancy sauce and my soup was ok. I think the most frustrating thin was that the waiters kept walking by with bread and we never got any. Every time a new table was set he would take them bread … we NEVER got bread. Then I ordered soup and the michaels salad. The texas clam chowder was interesting … it tasted like clam chowder with chili powder. Then the salad. Ug oh my god … even john wanted to spit it out. First it comes out and is one color — beige. The lettuce is absolutely drenched is some dressing that is nothing like ceasar or ranch or blue cheese or parmesan or anything that is whitish in color. It has parmesan cheese that does not taste like parmesan or maybe it does parmesan gone bad. But enough about the salad. John got a huge pork chop over polenta with some sort of soy/garlic sauce. The polenta had no flavor it was very much like cream of wheat. The chop was over cooked. you know what I just talked myself into a single star. In other words DON“T WASTEYOURTIME!

I had a great experience here. I drank a local wine(Times Ten Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon), had the encrusted goat cheese chicken and they were delicious! I also had the poblano ranch grits and they were the most delicious thing I’ve put in my mouth. Overall, wonderful food. I wish they didn’t charge you a ton of money to substitute your sides. I also wish the service was a little faster. I felt we waited longer than average, but I had a bottle of wine so I couldn’t complain. I’ll be back to try everything on the menu.

I’ve not been for dinner yet, so I’ll reserve the star sway for that eventuality, but I got a kick out of my first stop into Michael’s tonight, tucked into the corner slot of an also somewhat under the radar strip center off the deeper recesses of West 7th. It’s an interesting and warm arrangement. There’s little disputing that Michael’s is cozy, from the first step in, past the piano to the back corner bar(featuring a few Texas spirits, including some hard to get ones), and Negro Modelo on tap, they had me locked in for a relaxed sip or three. There seems to be a fairly loyal local crowd that huddles each night, and not necessarily conventional crowds at that(at least that’s the way it played this evening… the many regulars didn’t seem to fit a single profile, but they all seemed equally enamored). The thing that these folks had in common, at least on my first pop in, was a sense of comfort, and that was prevailing enough to spread smiles. My take isn’t comprehensive, and I’m looking forward to learning more, but there is a pervasive vibe here, and I’ll be eager to return in search of validation or correction. Something tells me I’ll find whatever that moment is supposed to be.

If we had stopped after the appetizer, I would have given this 5 stars… The goat cheese/ancho chile appetizer is amazing. It’s flavorful and large for the price. Our entrees left a bit to be desired and the staff seemes a bit scattered. We didn’t have silverware and the warm bread that others talk about in their reviews(and that we saw), never made it to our table. Also, for the price and ambiance of the restaurant, the TVs are out of place and should probably be removed.

Our whole family had Dinner at Michael’s in celebration of my daughter’s graduation from TCU. It was an excellent celebration. The wine selection was was quite good with a wide range of price and quality. I had honey glazed salmon, my wife had a an encrusted chicken, my Father-in-law had Prime Rib and my Mother in law a pasta dish. One daughter had crab cakes and the other had tenderloin. Everything was excellent. the only negatives were the amount of heat in the pasta dish was more than my mother-in-law expected. Service was also excellent and attentive. This is a small place in the corner of a slightly run down strip mall — but don’t let that deter you, it’s very nice inside.

I found myself very impressed by this hidden gem. I visited for a weekday lunch one afternoon and while not busy, it was cozy, the service was great, the pizza was fresh and tasty, and the margarita was superb. I was a little turned off by how incredibly dark it is inside, especially on a gorgeous sunny day, but that was my only complaint. I just recently returned for a late Saturday night dinner and was again impressed. For one it gets points for being open late and still serving food for Fort Worth. I still do not understand why everything shuts down so early in this city compared to Austin. Furthermore, it was fairly busy but still easy to find an open table in the bar. We decided to eat off the bar menu mainly because the prices are so much more reasonable and the food is almost identical to the dinner menu. The food was delicious. I had the Ancho Beef Petite«Bar-Tender» with the perfect amount of pepper-crust combined with the slightly sweet ancho bourbon sauce. It is a smaller portion for the bar menu but it sits atop the most tasty mashed potatoes; I thought it was perfect for a late night dinner. The chicken fried steak was also a decent serving size and remarkably flavorful, crunchy and tasty. Michael’s offers a unique Texas twist to most of its menu items and the menu is LONG. The sheer number of menu items they offer is overwhelming and difficult to successfully well execute. However I am impressed thus far and will definitely return.

Michael’s is a wonderful neighborhood place. It is tucked away in a strip center and surprises with a crisp, upscale interior with a southwesterny flair. The food is nicely prepared, presented and always tasty. However, it and the menu itself coud use a little more… zing. The menu is not especially inspired. It could be a little bolder and more innovative. I’ll keep coming back again and again though just for their extra fabulous fresh baked bread!
