So far, I have only had the veggie breakfast burrito. It was delicious. Wild rice, kale, broccoli, carrots, cheese, egg, and more. For the price, this was a large portion of gourmet food, constituting a better value than most other local dining options. I look forward to returning and trying out more items, and perhaps altering my rating.

This food truck rocks! After learning about it recently, I’ve eaten there four times in the last few weeks and it’s consistently great food and priced fair. I’ve been searching all over Hood River for a decent breakfast burrito with no luck until getting one from Four and Twenty Blackbirds. Awesome, well done!!!

I wouldn’t typically review a food truck, but then again, Four & Twenty Blackbirds isn’t your typical food truck. I’d seen the recognizable black and white former bread van around the Gorge last summer, but never indulged until a few months ago when I ran in to friend having a quick bite before heading in to the mountains. After a short chat with the chef and proprietor, Shane Eagan, I soon had a little white box containing a steaming hot Elk Burger in my hands, fresh cooked to perfection between a locally baked roll and on a bed of local organic greens, topped off with crispy fried onions and Chef Shane’s glorious mystery sauce that tied the whole package together. It was a masterpiece of a sandwich, and after just one bite, I understood why there’s often a crown of hungry folks queuing up in front of the truck. With a diverse culinary background that spans some fifteen years, Chef Shane delivers the goods. Pulling inspiration from the week’s locally sourced ingredients, regional staples and proteins, and often times a twist of pan-Asian flare, one can expect a consistent, wholesome, and unique meal that showcases styles and flavors not found elsewhere in the region– a welcome change from the typical dishes found in many of the areas distinctly un-unique brick and mortar restaurants. Four & Twenty Blackbirds is a surprising little gem offering an ever-changing menu with a variety of proteins and flavors daily. Often found parked slightly off the beaten path, it’s worth stepping off the main drag and exploring. Pro-tips: Breakfast: You’re unlikely to find a better breakfast burrito anywhere… order the chorizo. Lunch: Request the Chef’s Special, and leave it at that– no questions about what it is. It might be something on that day’s menu, or it might be Shane’s inspiration at that very moment. Let the chef do as he pleases, and let yourself be delighted with whatever cooked-to-perfection meal is called out to you.

I go here regularly for lunch and I’ve never had a bad meal. Most of the time Shane has something incredible for the special of the day, and you just have to say«yes!» They are happy to accommodate special requests, make it Paleo, or whatever else you need, but usually, getting it how they designed it is the best. And when he has duck confit, you really need to make sure you’re there. Breakfast burritos are huge and amazing, but I recommend sharing one :) NOTE: He sometimes moves his truck around so check his website if you’re not sure where he’s at.(While on the surface his website doesn’t look like it’s been updated in a while, he keeps his Weekly Menu page updated and it usually has his location: )

Meh! So disappointed!!! Just spent $ 10 on sauteed veggies, wild rice and pulled pork in a peanut sauce and feel cheated. The pictures I saw all looked amazing and I wanted to try it so bad, so I ended up going and what I received was nothing picturesque at all — it quite frankly looked like someone had an upset stomach :( I barely had any wild rice, pulled pork was flavorless and the sauteed veggies were raw. Maybe they just had a bad day but I’m unlikely to return — bummer!

Everything is awesome –steak sandwich, shrimp ceviche tacos, basil pesto chicken pita, etc… Shane makes it to order and all the ingredients are fresh local gourmet goodness. Gotta eat here! Breakfast & lunch.
