Two weeks before I even flew out to Houston, my friend who I went to visit was raving about Ruggles so much to the point I basically had their menu memorized by the time I landed in Texas. After a morning hike in the southern heat, we came here to have a healthy(ish) lunch. The restaurant was packed, and I totally understand why. Ruggles is one of those restaurants offering healthy options and locally-grown fare, which explains why it’s a tad pricey for what you get(worth every penny). I ordered the Ruggles Green Goat Cheese Salad and added blackened tofu to it. The salad was large and flavorful. The tofu was some of the best I’ve had. I also had the privilege to try the quinoa mac n cheese. It was grainy, sinful, drenched in cholesterol, and wow… I’ll be dreaming about it for sure. Trying to not overstuff myself at lunch, I skipped a dessert option but if you’re feeling indulgent you need to get one of their cakes. They’re massive and look amazing. Next time, Ruggles, I promise! I already mentioned this place was packed so seating is a battlefield. Keep your eyes open, stay alert, and once a table opens up, pounce! The staff does a great job cleaning up each table after diners finish their meal so you are guaranteed to have a good experience.
