Kruse & Muer Roadhouse

The bread keeps us coming back only to be frustrated by the food quality and service. Being accustomed to the Kruse and Muer of years past when prestige ruled it has been many years since I’ve experienced that version of this local chain, sad.
Side note: at a place that calls themselves «roadhouse» and serves a $ 25 entrée I shouldn’t have to spend $ 5 more to get a salad ala carte.

Love this restaurant! This one is located on M24 east side just south of downtown Lake Orion. Yes, they have more locations too!
They are so helpful here. They let my daughter and I wait nearly 35 minutes for my wife and other daughter at our table. They did not bother us either. Of course they gave us, waters and unlimited yummy bread and butter. Once my wife arrived, they hooked them up with waters and more warm bread. I can’t say I have ever had a bad time with their food here. It’s all gourmet and tastes divinely delish! This time I had the Asian pasta; wow, this is a light noodle dish with chicken, shrimp in a stir fry sauce. It is so good! My wife had the lobster pasta; also, another good dish with a creamy sauce. She also had a caesar salad with homemade dressing. The dressing here are all homemade and so creamy! Love them!
The setting here is not really roadhouse, it’s more an elegant opening type seating areas. There is one area with older wood floors with natural lighting. It’s a good spot.
Our wait staff was quick to help and very nice. We will be back!

Over a year ago I dined at Kruse & Muer Roadhouse with a friend. I really like the atmosphere and the food was quite good, but we were really put off about the following: They provided us with individual serving packages of FAKE Land O’Lakes butter to spread on their hot, delicious bread and it tasted like FAKE butter because it was FAKE butter. When we asked the waiter for «real» butter he said that they only had the artificial spread because «real butter is too expensive». Yikes! For real? I told him that diners have certain expectations when they pay what we were paying for a nice dinner. He seemed unfazed. Although I haven’t been back because of it, I have to admit that the food was good. My question is: Why cheap out on a little thing like butter? Buy cheap toilet paper for the restroom if you must and no one will notice but don’t compromise on the food to save a few cents. It’s just not good business.

When an out of state friend came to town and told us he was staying in Lake Orion I was all like nooooo, that is so faaaar. Needless to say I didn’t want to head further to RH or Troy for dinner, so we ended up here.
Dinner started off with a couple of stouts, followed by warm spinach cheese dip and bread. Oh man, dat bread. It’s warm, seasoned and fluffy and the cheese was creamy (but not runny), savory and delicious.
After that ridiuclously rich decadence I had the genius idea to order langoustino’s, shrimp and scallops in a saffron cream sauce with tomatoes. Rich again, but very good. Husband had ribs with mac n cheese (oh no, more cheese and cream). I didn’t try the ribs but the mac was good — though I couldn’t eat more than a bite as at this point I was a little creamed out.
To stay in the realm of basically having carbs for dinner we ended with a couple of Baileys’ — cause our friend is smart like that (no seriously, i love Baileys). Unfortunately our waitress must not know this lovely fluid since she tried to pawn off Kahlua as Baileys. umm, no. Or maybe she was trying to save me from more cream, ha.
Other than that. our service, food, and overall experience was good, though I’d recommend to add some actual vegetables to your meal.

Went for my birthday since we are reward card holders. The waitress was rude and totally annoyed to refill drinks and only came to check on us twice… once to take our order and once to bring the bill. We had to summon other staff to help and they couldn’t fake how annoyed they were. Food is always great but I looked forward to dessert and wasn’t even offered any. Ruined my birthday night. Won’t be back to this location ever.

I’d give them 0 stars if possible.
Horrible horrible funeral luncheon. Literally took 2 hours for our meal.
I felt awful for the family as I know they were paying high dollar for this embarrassment.
We arrived about noon. We got our coffee pretty quick. However, I ordered a cappuccino and it was terrible. More like a bad café latte with no foamed milk on top. How depressing. And notice to management, when serving coffee put more than 4 sugars in the carrier. Not everyone uses the fake shit.
We received their famous bread, but no butter. UGH. Finally a manager of some kind brought us the butter.
After over an hour we were able to order off the pre-​set menu. This is where the sheer unprofessional-​ism kicks in. We were given a choice of soup or salad and an entrée. So what’s the big freaking deal getting the food to the tables? Obviously they were totally unprepared for this luncheon that the parents had set up days before hand.
Finally after an hour we started getting the soups and salads. What the problem was getting the entrees out is beyond my comprehension. I was so frustrated I could have screamed. Not to mention the elderly there. You could see the frustration on their faces.
After 2 hours we finally get our entrees. Mind you the staff was bringing them out 3 plates at a time. I got the Tortellini and Chicken and my daughter got the Chicken Marsala. Mine was barely warm where hers was hot. GHEEEZ ARE YOU KIDDING ME? That’s when I noticed the other table near us got all 6 of their meals to go. It was pretty obvious they were done waiting. We ended up boxing ours and leaving.
NEVER WILL I GO BACK OR EVEN RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO EVEN MY ENEMIES.
If I want a good meal in that restaurant group I’ll go to the one in Rochester.
I’ll bet money the company doesn’t respond to this post. As others here have posted. They suck out loud.

Ate here on Friday night, great service as usual I had a great Salmon dish with a maple syrup sauce, excellent. Unfortunately my wife’s walleye was overcooked and hard, dry. Not good. First time one of us has had a bad meal here

Per a friend’s suggestion and critical acclaim, I stopped in here as I was passing through the Lake Orion area yesterday. Showed up upon opening at noon on a Saturday and received friendly service. I went with the California Fish Tacos based on friend’s recommendation and I have to say they were pretty amazing. A lot of fish tacos I’ve had in the past are run of the mill… you get some sort of chopped up fish base as a meat with stuff they add in the shell. Not the case here… you get nice lightly breaded crisp flounder fillets with cheese, shredded cabbage and whatever else it is they put into these works of art. Some sort of pilaf dish on the side it comes with… wasn’t so much down with the dried cranberry scene in it but hey, I’m not complaining. I can’t wait to come back and try more of the menu here.

Called in for a pizza @ 6:04pm, was told that it would be 25 minutes — wrong! It’s now 45 minutes later and several people have been in and out with their pick up orders. The ladies behind the counter kept telling us it would be 5 more minutes. Meanwhile, one of our pizza’s came out & is now «cooling» under the heat lamp — yum; nothing like cold pizza. If I wanted cold pizza, I would’ve order yesterday and ate it this morning.
Normally service (at least in the dining room), is quick. To bad carry out sucks.

Early dinner (5pm) on Saturday before a concert at The Palace. Seated quickly and service was good. Calamari starter was tasty and fast to the table. Entrees of Roadhouse burger and fish tacos were delicious and portion sizes were not too big. It was nice to be offered a top up drink on a take out cup before we left. Will come again.

Worst experience ever. The sad part, I went more than once. But, our lake house is here in Lake Orion and it’s slim Pickens in the restaurant department. Service is terrible. The bartenders seem like they always want to go home early.
We tried to order a pizza on super bowl sunday but they were closing early. What?! A pizza place closing early on Super Bowl sunday? They didn’t even offer to make us a pizza. Again, terrible customer service.
To make matters worse the food is icky. Literally that’s the adjective that comes to mind, ick.
Drive over to Oxford there’s a couple decent options there. Sullivan’s Public House and Victoria’s.

Multiple visits and I’ve never had a bad experience or meal. The staff is pretty good and so is the food. On this particular night I was wanting a good glass of wine and I got it. Good quality place, just like their other restaurants.

HORRIBLE service for dinner at the bar. They could have cared less about us and kept dropping stuff to boot.

Just dined here this previous weekend during their Caribbean fest and the food was excellent. I started with the Swiss Onion soup, which is just out of this world amazing. Then I had the Caribbean twin filets, which, if my memory serves me right, is two 4oz filets in a peppercorn horseradish cream sauce with crispy onion straws and Caribbean portobello salsa with a side of smashed potatoes. It was great, my steaks were cooked perfectly but I wasn’t a huge fan of the sauce. The highlight of the evening was the Caribbean sticky toffee pudding cake… hands down the best desert I’ve ever had. The cake was the most perfect texture, dense and moist, and bathed in an outstanding toffee Carmel sauce, with a side of vanilla bean ice cream. If you dine here, you MUST order the Caribbean sticky toffee pudding cake.

My wife and I stopped for dinner tonight before a concert. Reservation for 5:30. Got seated and waited 10 minutes to be acknowledged. The drinks and bread about 10 minutes after that. Admittedly the bread was wonderful. Sadly, the bread was the best part of the meal.
The service was slow and inconsistent. Our server would disappear for what seemed like forever. The table across from us were visited by their server quite often, were offered more bread, drinks, what have you.
My wife and I both ordered the creamy french onion soup. It was disppapointing.
I ordered the NY Strip steak, and it was cooked fine, but it was luke warm at best, and there wasn’t much flavor. The potatoes «gus» were greasy and soggy. Bleh. One bite was too much.
My wife got the flounder dinner. It was soggy and the flavor was drowned out by the excessive coating of bread crumbs.
After sitting for 15 minutes with napkins on our plates, our server finally came to the table. She tried to shove their «dinner club» membership down our throats. Ummm, no thanks. I told her that we were all set and would like the check, and she disappeared again. 10 more minutes, we get the check. Tray with the payment sits for 5+ minutes. She comes and takes that, and we wait another 10 minutes for the change.
We will not be back to this restaurant.
I can say that we have had a significantly better experience at the same chains Deer Lake Inn location in Clarkston.

You HAVE to try their pizza! All the other bad Unilocal reviews before must have not had the pizza. It is very reasonably priced– a large could easily feed three to four adults for $ 13.95 with one topping. I had a wedge salad on the side and the garlic dressing they use is amazing!
The hostess and waitress did a great job! Overall this was a great Friday night out. Will definitely be back!!!

My boyfriend and I stopped here with high hopes and were terribly disappointed. The menu looked great so we decided to go tapas style order a few things to share. Corn chowder was decent but lacking seasoning, lobster stuffed mushrooms were very tasty, and bread was seasoned to perfection. Crab cakes, however, were not good at all. They tasted like they had old whitefish mixed in and prepped days ago. Fortunately our server was very nice and apologetic, and had the manager visit us with the option to order something else. We politely declined and finished our meal.
While finishing up we found ourselves annoyed by the loud, non stop ringing of the telephone, music, AND television volume all at once! We threw in the towel and asked for our check, which was presented to us while our dirty dishes still sat in front of us. Then we sat for quite a few minutes waiting for the server to pick our check back up.
All in all the service was very friendly but maybe lacking proper training. Food concepts are mouth watering but execution needs work.

Went here for the first time on a Friday at 6:30pm. No wait. Got seated right away on an uncomfortable wooden chair.
The infamous bread was brought out and it was definitely good. When seeing the $ 13+ per entrée price tag, we decided to get a large pizza with a half order of Mac & Cheese.
The Mac & Cheese was good, wouldn’t have been worth the $ 13.50 for the full dish.
This thing is huge! You’ll definitely be taking home a box! We got Italian sausage and smoked bacon on ours. It was good for a place that doesn’t specialize in pizza.
The valet parking was awkward. It’s free. But, they basically take your car 20 feet to a spot you could have parked in if it weren’t for the cones. Odd place to have valet.

members of the Kruse & Muer frequent dining club, we were really disappointed in our meal and service this evening. First off, we waited until the next table (who were seated after us) receive their appetizer before we even placed our drink orders. And I did notice they turned that table over twice during our meal.
Here is a tip: they serve prime rib on Fridays and Saturdays after 4 pm. They ran out at 7, so get there extra early! Maybe 4:30, because you’re order won’t go in until 5.
Our food was tasty and 3 of the 4 steaks were cooked to proper temperature. One of the entrees was late to the table. I had to send my sirloin back. I ordered it medium rare and got a well done steak. Keep in mind I’m pretty easy going and if a place is busy or the service is good, I’m willing to let it go. The flavor and tenderness of my steak was not up to par with what I have received in the past. It was not grilled and looked and tasted like they put in on the flat top griddle to cook.
Yes, we will go back. However, I will make sure that we do not get the same waiter again. And will most likely stick to the Rochester restaurant.

Quite possibly my finest lunch dining experience of my whole 35 years on this earth. This place is insane. Sat out on the patio and loved it. They have a special summer menu for you when you choose to dine outside. Asked for a recommendation. A lovely young lady recommended the fish tacos. Holy Moly. Unreal. I can not even describe how spot on they were. Incredibly delicious and light. Tasteful and tantalizing.
I will be ordering these again. All summer long!
The Flash Fried Calamari is out of this world! The pictures speak for themselves. Do yourself a favor and come here. Often.
