Oh no, how did I NOT try this place until my LASTDAY living in Oak Park!!! Ridiculocity :(:( This place probably has some of the *best* mexican in the area. In the midst of packing our million and one boxes, my husband and I decided we could not take it anymore. It was either kill each other or go get something to eat. We gladly picked option 2: grad a bit to eat. Being, obviously, sweaty, temperamental, and starving, we decided to try this restaurant. Oh man, were we rewarded. I ordered the chicken tacos dinner and my husband got some sort of steak burrito dinner.(Dinners come with the standard spanish rice and beans). Both were delicious, hugely portioned, and fairly priced. Each taco came in a soft, warm, corn tortilla and was smothered in fresh lettuce, tomato, and onion. Their chicken was juicy and whatever sauce/rub they had on it was genius. There was so much food; I ended up taking about ½ of my meal home and I was bustin-out-of-my-work-out-pants stuffed. Oh, my husband, he loved his food as well. I got to try his steak which was pretty tasty :) Even the standard pre-dinner chips were perfectly salted, crunchy, and HIGHLY addictive. You. can’t.have.just.one. I tried :( One side note, b/c of the state of our apartment(and the fact that we were sick of being in it), we chose to eat at the restaurant. Word to the wise, this place is pretty small. I think there are two small tables and bar-style seating at the window, so I would not recommend it for groups or a fancy date night out on the town. However, don’t let that deter you from grabbing some yummy Mexican food to go… you WON’T be disappointed :)

I really wanted to love the Golden Lamb, but it wasn’t meant to be. It’s a cute little restaurant tucked away off the main street, around the corner from Ten Thousand Villages. The space is really tiny — I think there were 3 two-seater tables and a small counter. No free chips and salsa, which was a big disappointment as that can be one of the best parts of an authentic Mexican restaurant. I decided to try a burrito, which is admittedly unusual for me(I’m usually more of a taco or torta girl.) Nothing was bad, but nothing was fantastic. The steak in the burrito was nothing to write home about, and at a taqueria I find the quality of the steak to be a big indicator of the quality of the restaurant overall. I certainly wouldn’t avoid coming back here, but I also won’t be rushing back.

The Golden Lamb is really in a tucked away place and has signage that does not enhance it’s visibility. Besides that(and this might not be the case for everybody, of course), I didn’t know what the«Golden Lamb» was and was not curious enough to wander over to see. Long story short, I’ve now eaten at the Mexican restaurant three times and have been delighted. The food seems perfectly authentic and is good — especially the tacos. I love their tacos. I am not the biggest fan of their tostadas. I’ve heard okay reviews about their burritos. I’m just going to stick with their tacos. The space is über small. There are three two-seater tables shoved into a corner and a counter with stools at it. I think the whole space can seat nine people — tops. The service is okay. I mean, you place your order at the counter and then they bring you your food. They’re polite and helpful. I think the prices are good too. They’re cheap. In fact, I think this hole-in-the-wall type of Mexican place is a nice addition to all of the other restaurants. It’s nice to have a divey place to turn to for a quick, inexpensive taco when the craving hits.

This may be the only authentic Mexican place within walking distance from my apartment. Sometimes you want Chipotle and some times you want the real deal with cholesterol spiking refried beans and all. The meats are always tender and juicy. The tortillas always fragrant and fresh. The service is always fast and with a smile. And the soups are always large enough portions for left overs.

Golden Lamb is awesome — a true hidden gem in Oak Park. This is the only place to go for Mexican. I just wish I had known about this place sooner!

Being Mexican and a Los Angeles native, I was craving some intense Mexcian cuisine! It’s really hard to get some around in Oak Park. I’m so used to going down the street and ordering Mexican food anywhere. I heard of this spot from a friend and heard it was worth a try. The gentleman that took my order was very nice and right away knew I was Mexican.(It was funny because usually nobody can tell I can speak Spanish). I ordered a chicken torta with avocado, lettuce, tomatoes, and cheese. It was… okay. I was not amazed but not surprised. The chicken was moist and that was good enough.

I see there are 5 star reviews of this place. 5 stars would mean that it can’t get any better. My experience was far from the best. Saying the interior is cozy as some have said is being nice. Plus, the food quality was very poor. The steak in my tacos was chewy and the toppings sparse. The refried beans were watery which is strange to me. It was as if my meal was cooked 2 hours earlier. The price was right, however. Bargin basement prices for Oak Park. So, if you are in Oak Park and desparate for a low-priced taco or burrito this might be your spot. Sometimes it doesn’t look as if it is open. It probably is though.

As a fan of lambs(because they are a special combo of cute AND delicious), I was double über excited when I heard that the Golden Lamb was coming to the neighborhood. After I went there about 6 weeks ago, I walked in and saw a ton of items that I wanted to try, all consisting of lamb. Upon attempting to place my order I was told that the lamb was out. I was like, really? Are you sure? I was told that the lamb would be back tomorrow, which did me no good as I would not be back tomorrow and was very hungry, right then, specifically for lamb. Kind of like the orange juice scene in Harlem Nights… Anyhoo, the gentleman who assisted me was very nice, but when I go to a place called the Golden Lamb and alas, there is nary a lamb to be eaten, I get a little, you know, sad. So I opted for a chile relleno taco, which I believe was heated in a microwave(a convection microwave, but microwaved food is a BIG no-no for me) and which did not come to me as was specified on the menu — with onions and cilantro — nonetheless I ate it, and it was just okay. I suppose I will try them out again in hopes that the place’s namesake will have made an appearance.

This place is definitely a treasure in downtown Oak Park. I visit there fairly frequently. My friends also love it. They have low cost prices, high quality food, and a friendly guy who works there. They also have a large variety of meats to choose from, so you wont get bored with the same food. Everything is made fairly rapidly too. The guy that works there is always super friendly to me, and I am really happy to give him my business. The interior is colourful and cozy. :o) The potential only drawback is that you most likely have to pay to park in the public lots that are right by the restaurant.

Went here because of the amazing reviews and I gotta say we were very disappointed. I liked the décor. It was cute and cozy inside with just a few small tables. Unfortunately, it was very hot and stuffy inside. It was actually cooler feeling outside on a day that it was 75 degrees. We needed to eat there but there was no outside seating so we had to sit inside. My husband got a dinner with tacos, rice, and refried beans. The rice was the mushy redish colored type that you might see at like a really cheap chain restaurant or it even reminded me of something I had in the cafeteria at school. The beans were runny with little flavor. I got two lamb tacos. I was excited to have some lamb. To my disappointment there was very little lamb and every other bite had a piece of fat. Gross. There was little flavor to the meat. They put cilantro on it but there was so little that it did nothing to help the taste. We were really excited to have some yummy tacos but the quality of this place was just awful. I would never eat here again.

This place is really good! My food was hot and ready when I was told it would be ready. It’s a small place so it’s probably best to go here for pick up. Tastes great; real authentic Mexican food! And it doesn’t have bones and gristle in the meat like at el burrito loco!

LOVE this place. GREAT place to get a taco, or a burrito. If you like sopes, you’ll love them here. If you don’t know what a sope is, try one! The only down side is that they close around 4:30/5:00 p.m., so go for lunch!

Just stopped by this place for a quick lunch. Had my first lamb burrito ever – delish – loved the green sauce. The lamb was tender, flavorful – tasted like lamb. Husband had the same plus a taco al pastor. The al pastor meat was tender, flavorful not greasy with super fresh toppings. Plus the taco shell was toasted just right. This is just the place we’ve been looking for and with great, affordable prices we’ll be back.
