I had been to Nikko’s once, a couple of years ago; I thought it was pretty good, but we have plenty of choices for Mexican food in Redwood City, so I hadn’t been back. Yesterday, I was driving around doing errands, and needed to stop for a snack. I really didn’t want much — just something small because I was going out for an early dinner. Nikko’s gave me a small snack and wouldn’t take any $ for it! Tonight, I went back for dinner with a friend, to show my appreciation. Tasty dinner, and I like the casual atmosphere! One slight complaint… it’s really chilly in the restaurant, on a cold December night. More heat please…

I would leave a zero if it let me. My coworker and I were passing by and seen a sign that said 69 cent tacos so we stopped. The sign says limit 4 per person so we ordered 4 all together and 2 can sodas. Our total was over $ 11. We paid and then I said isn’t it 69 cent tacos and the lady says yeah but that is after 2pm only. I said ok it is 2:30 and then she looks and was about to refund but then instead said that is chicken only and wouldn’t give the correct amount back. We figured wow ok I guess this is false advertisement and you must think you need money more then we do for some reason. To top it off the food we got wasn’t anything special it looked like we just got hamburger meat. Plenty of other spots in Redwood city with way better tasting food. Probably won’t rip you off either

Nikko’s is a quiet little bright spot of the area. Don’t let its humble exterior and location fool you! Inside, you’ll appreciate its affordability and deliciousness… with some pleasant surprises as well! My favorite: if you order an horchata and dine in, they serve it to you in a tall, frosty Coca-Cola glass mug that looks like it’s from the ‘50s. The $ 4 lunch/dinner special will fill you up; you get a chicken soft taco and sides of rice and beans. Served with salsa & lime, these same surprisingly satisfying chicken tacos are only $ 0.69 each from 2−5pm. There’s a $ 5 minimum for credit cards, but some of the staff are cool about not meeting that. There are a couple of TVs in here and would make this place a great spot to grub and enjoy some cervezas during s game, but they’re never on when I’m there. I don’t even know if they even work.

Eating a taco is a sacred ritual. I bow 7 times towards Mexico City before partaking in this perfect hand-to-mouth meat-delivery-system. So today I went to try ‘The Best Fish Taco In the Peninsula’, and boy was I EXCITED! Maybe this was the fantastic item I’ve missed on Nikko’s menu. And…NNNNOPE! When I picked it up, half of the taco’s innards — the fish, salsa, cheese, sour cream(?) — oozed through my fingers and onto the container. The fish was super mild, just drowning in all that mess. You’re not supposed to need a fork to rescue fish that’s drowning in super burrito toppings in order to eat a taco – Fail. :( I’ve been to Nikko’s at least 7 times, and each time I hope it’ll be better. But after that fish taco fiasco I’m going to have to finally drop the 2-star hammer… The bad: — AVERAGETOBELOWAVERAGEMEXICANFARE Everything I’ve ever tried, from the meats to the tacos, to the burritos, to the chile rellenos have always been ‘aight’ to ‘meh’. Even the horchata was a bit bland, and the free hot salsa reminds me of spicy spaghetti sauce. — STINGYONTHECHIPS! Nikko’s always drops just 1 handful of chips into the bag. I’ve asked for more and it didn’t make a difference. Is California running a tortilla chip drought too? Check the picture — who else doles out only a few chips like that? — FORGOTTENINTERIOR If the food were amazing, the dirt caked into the cracked tiles would be charming and edgy. The aged wooden rack of hot sauce on the wall next to an oily, 2-year old sheet of paper flaunting their Barbacoa items would be bad-ass. But because the food is so-so, the final effect feels sloppy and forgotten. The good: * LARGEVARIETYOFDISHES Nikko’s offers at least 40 something dishes. It’s pretty impressive. 17 types of burritos, 12 combo plates, 7 taco varieties, and on, and on. Some unique examples are the Teriyaki Burrito, Chimichanga Soup, and the Ahi Tuna Platter. * A NICEFAMILYRUNSTHEPLACE And here’s why I feel like a d*ck writing this(quack, quack). The people running Nikko’s are really nice! There’s a mom and kid in there half the time. But I’ve been there so many times hoping for a great lunch, and unfortunately the food has never done it for me. Sorry guys, but the fish taco was the last straw.

They speak no English to the point that they literally heard me say«fish» and gave me a chicken(I’m honesty not even sure what meat or combo of meats it was) burrito instead. I was picking up an order and came home to find this. Then when I called the guy instead of finding someone who spoke English, kept me on the line without saying a word and then hung up! Very disappointed — was hoping this would become a to-go.

Excellent… really great fish taco(Tacos Nikkos). Absolutely huge, perfectly cooked fish and a great slaw. They do add cheese to it, which surprised me for a fish taco, but it actually kinda works. Also at 3.95 you just can’t beat it. Will be back.

I speak on behalf of my colleagues! We ordered Nikko’s through a third party vendor. Their order was first to arrive among the 4 restaurants we had catering that day. Although I didn’t order from them that day, I wish I had! Their food smelled and looked great. This notion was confirmed by all who enjoyed their meals(before the rest of us!!). Their burritos were HUGE, and really well priced for their size. Their presentation for catering was great! All around great experience.

The quantity was large and the service was friendly. The tortilla was too soft, there were too many rice and beans in the burrito and the meat was low on flavor. Not great, just okay.

Not bad for first time. Keep passing by and seeing tacos for $.69. Once I got close it is for happy hour tacos(2p-5p). Tried the steak taco lunch special; simple, tasty and fair price. Added an extra taco. All under $ 7. Not to shabby. Just note is it hole in the wall, not high end, can see a little messy kitchen, super busy and no designated line to order. Had some«jerk» cut right in front of me to order.

Ive been coming here for a long time and a big fan of the«Surf and Turf» burrito, but today I decided on the«pollo en mole» I gotta say, it was delicious and very filling. I have a new dish at Nikkos. Well done Rosendo.

My friends and I went here for the first time today and ordered burritos to go. First of all we all received the wrong order. Everything was wrong which was surprising because the place wasn’t busy. We were the only people in there. The consistency of the guacamole and sour cream was runny and they use their hands to pick up the food including the chips. No tongs or gloves. It was unsanitary including the restaurant itself.

I’m sorry to have to type this review out but this place has gone downhill in the past few months. I really want to keep going here to support a local business but the past few times have been terrible. Tonight was bad, I ordered 2 shrimp burritos with nothing else, the total came out to ~ $ 22. I counted 3 shrimp in my burrito, my buddy had about the same. Nothing but beans and rice inside, no sour cream no guac no cheese. Really??! $ 20 for two bean and rice burritos. Disappointing and I won’t be back.

Quesadilla cheese and nachos were good but the veggie burrito wasn’t good at all… It was bland and the rice inside was terrible.

The BEST fish tacos in the Peninsula, hands down, hands up, hands where ever! I know where my hands are going to be! Wrapped around the next fish taco I’m going to be eating here SOON! Every time I go here for a bite, seems like the food gets better and better. Fresh, made with skills, quick and easy. Keep it up Nikkos!

Never again, I grabbed a” to go” menu a week prior to try Nikkos. I ordered a torta for 6.95 and nachos for 7.95. He rang me up for 8.95 for the torta and the nachos. I grabbed a «to go» menu still in front of the register and showed him the price and he said they are 5 years old and prices«subject to change». Here is a hint. GETNEWMENUS! When I got back to work to eat my lunch there was no guacamole or sour cream in my nachos, when I called to ask why he said that the cook just forgot and he will get it right the next time. Also, he handles money and runs the cash register and then grabs the chips with his bare hands, not sanitary! John

This place was located next to the Donut Shop I visited earlier and I saw the«69 cents tacos» sign on the window and figured I should try it! So I told my co-worker about it and she said she wanted to try it out too so we checked out their menu online. She ordered the chile verde burrito and two steak tacos on the side and I had two steak tacos. I must say, the tacos were actually very good. I bit on the spendy side($ 1.80) but very good. The meat was flavorful & tasty. The next day I went back to try out the 69 cent tacos(2−5pm) and of course, this was limited only to the chicken tacos and only included one tortilla per taco. Also, when I went to pick up, the cute little girl who answers the phones and rings up the register(owner’s daughter, she is ADORABLE) told me after the cook told her in Spanish that the 69 cent deal is for DINEINONLY — but that they would let me take the tacos this time but with no foil. LOL Who cares? It’s just foil right. lol Chicken tacos were alright — not as good as the regular ones on the menu but hey, they didn’t break my pockets so I’m not complaining.
