I have been meaning to create a Unilocal account for a long time for a few reasons. I think it’s a travesty this place is any less than 4.5 stars. There were 5 main places that I wanted to make an account for, and this has been one of the main ones. Indian food, for the most part, is really hard to get«wrong.» I have been to about a handful, and I always have great food. There are minor deviations place to place, and although they all deserve glowing reviews, I wanted to focus on the one Indian food place that has consistently supplied me some of the best food and service consistently. You are reading the winner. I won’t go into tiring detail as to why I believe this is the best place ever cause I would be here all day. I just want to give credit where it is due the most. I love the staff. I love every single one of them. Never have I had such a warm family-esque welcome every time I drop by. The staff there is some of the most down to earth, sweetest, and friendliest people I have ever met. There was a time when me and my roommate at the time were actually calling in an order on a car ride there. It was a foul on our end cause taking a phone order in a car over blue tooth is kind of a jerk move. She really couldn’t hear us, but was super patient. When we arrived, the lady who took our order over the phone gave us our bag, and some of the order was wrong. We got Garlic naan when we ordered wheat, I received saag paneer when I ordered regular saag. We weren’t upset or anything, we understood in hindsight it was probably hard to take the order. So what happened next blew my mind. Not only did they give us a free order of naan, they gave us a free order of Saag and some samosas too. She, nor the staff in entirety, had to go above and beyond like that. But it meant a lot and shown how amazingly gracious they are. I have, nor will ever have, anything negative to say. Seriously. Best indian food place ever. I love the staff to bits. I hate they don’t have 5 stars from staff alone.

Ended up here when ninja and the other spot were too busy so didn’t have a super high expectations. We should have made this our destination and will be back. Absolutely amazing food and service, best Indian spot I’ve been to in the Sacramento area. The naan was light, fluffy and perfectly seasoned, the mixed tandoori was phenomenal and the chicken tikka misala was some of the best we’ve ever had. If you’re looking for good Indian, this should be your first and last destination.

Let me start off by saying that I’ve had Indian food maybe only about a dozen time. The type of food is great, however, I have to be in the mood to enjoy it, which has been maybe a few times a year for the past decade… The staff is extremely attentive and friendly. When I went in, they had a pretty filled restaurant with a few large groups(10+ people). Unlike most restaurants, I did not feel that I was being deserted due to the other large groups, which would also have a larger order and tip than myself. Our server was extremely attentive, providing the service that I was expecting and actually going above and beyond on checking in on us a few different times, while we waited for the food. Not once did I have a fully empty glass, having it re-filled instantly, as soon as I got close to the bottom. Aside from the fantastic service we received, the food was outstanding! This is by far, hands down some of the best Indian food I have ever had. I am not an Indian food expert by any means, however, out of the restaurants that I have had in the past, in the local Sacramento Area, as well as that of in the Bay area, this is the best selection, choice, delivery and presentation I have experienced. With Indian food mostly being very thick, heavy and somewhat greasy, this place stood out by a mile from their competition. The food was extremely flavorful and authentic, not americanized, or a spinoff from what it actually should be. If you’re thinking about testing a new place out and trying something different, authentic, delicious, without sacrificing the great prices or outstanding services, this place will NOT disappoint. Whether you have a large group, a special dinner, I would highly recommend this place to anyone and everyone to check out. You won’t be disapointed!!!

Really pleasant dining experience here for dinner. The food was great and the service was attentive. A bit pricey so we’ll only come here now and then, but the food was great. We got chicken vindaloo, tandoori fish, chicken karahi, rice, and naan. Wish the buffets were on weekends since we commute during the week, we’d be there a lot more if they had a weekend buffet.

Worst place ever… One waitress for all the tables. Restrooms are dark… Pitch black like couldn’t even find the fu**** lights… Just one naan bread… means you are the only person eating… Are you fu**** kidding me? It was 1pm decided to eat fast and head back to work… Didn’t have a look at the buffet as I was rushing back to work… shocked to see most of the buffet was empty and it was just 1pm… Fu*** I started eating… Nothing was good… Chicken Tikka masala and there’s no chicken in that… I ask the waitress what time do you close the buffet she said 2.30pm and I was like are you nuts? There is nothing on the buffet and you charge me 11 $? Waitress says we are cooking fresh. I said u have one hour left and there’s no fu****** food… It’s better to close the restraunt and hire more people… Gordon ramsay would have fainted and throw up… Saving some people’s a**… Peace out

Had the lunch buffet here. It satisfied my craving for Indian food while in the area but I’m used to amazing Indian food found in Sunnyvale so … eh. The chicken tikka masala was not spicy enough or lacked more spices. The waitress was kind enough to bring us items that were already gone from the buffet like tandoori chicken and vegetable samosas.

I came here with my mom on a Friday night to use a Groupon she bought. The restaurant was not crowded when we arrived and there was only a few other tables that were seated. They had a dinner buffet available for just under $ 15, but we opted to order off the regular menu. We shared an order of samosas as an appetizer and a order of plain naan. For our main meal, my mom ordered chicken tikka masala and I ordered saag paneer. The samosas and naan were pretty good, but nothing I would go out of my way to seek out again. Same thing for the saag paneer, which I ordered medium, but tastes mild. My mom said that she liked her dish a lot, but it seems that she was more impressed than me. When it came to pay with the Groupon, they asked if the expiration date had passed(it hadn’t). This seems to be a pattern with restaurants that use Groupon, they are sort of resentful when you actually use it. I wasn’t impressed enough to come back, but come check them out to see for yourself.

I had called two other Indians restaurants that said they delivered on Unilocal, but when I ask for delivery they told me they couldn’t. Not only did Taj Oven deliver they were the cheapest compared to the other two restaurants. They have great customer service and food. I ordered 2 dinners for me and my husband. Both came with plenty of rice and we had left overs for the next day. The garlic naan come 4 pieces/slices to an order. I’m glad I found an Indian restaurant that I can add to my take out list!

Nightmare at an Indian Restaurant! On a beautiful Sunday afternoon, I happened to be relaxing in Roseville with a group of 9 family and kids. So… we all got hungry and decided to go to BJs. As soon as we got there, there was a wait of 1 hour to get a table. We decided the 1 hour wait was going to be a burden on our hungry tummies. We quickly UnilocalED restaurants and decided on Taj Oven. We drove all hungry, excited and happy to get some quality Indian food and arrived here at 5:15PM. Here is a minute-by-minute events description the shaped our nightmare: 5:18PM — We walked in the door but no one was there to greet and meet.(Hello, anybody home?) We looked around and saw no restaurant staff on the floor anywhere. The restaurant was almost full with two small tables available and most guests had puzzled and annoyed looks on their faces. We continued our wait… 5:27PM — A middle aged guy comes out the kitchen, drenched in sweat, and greet us with«hi…just a minute…» He did not tell us what his name was… so I will have to refer to him as «The Guy»… 5:45PM — The guys says«hi again…» I told the guy we are a party of 9 and needed a table. The guys said to wait a few minutes for a table.(More wait… really?) 6:02PM — The guy tells us that we had to split our party into two separate tables… so we agreed and sat at two different tables.(We did NOT like the fact that we couldn’t enjoy the food as one big happy family… but we took the annoyance like champs)… 6:02PM — 6:30PM — Initial waiting for THEGUY to take our orders. We found ourselves staring at other guests with no water on the tables… no napkins on the tables… no utensils on the tables… just staring at each other and watching this guy doing everything: Answering phone calls, cleaning the tables, serving the guests, serving take out customers, refilling water, I mean EVERYTHING was done by this SUPER server!(Indian Restaurant Super Hero movie plot was unfolding in front of our eyes…) 6:35PM — The guy comes to our table and tells us that«Sir, if you order the appetizers, it will be faster and better…» I looked at this guy, all puzzled by his suggestion, and I looked at my already annoyed and impatient wife, and agreed on ordering the appetizers only. We ordered a couple of orders of Pakoras. 7:05PM — The appetizer finally arrives! The guy rushes back for small plates that were meant be used for holding cups of tea and coffee but he brought them to us for Pakoaras.(Are we in India or USA?) 7:45PM — I stood up and asked THEGUY that we were ready for our order. He came to our table a few minutes later with a pen and some small pieces of papers and took our order of Chicken Biryani and Chicken Makhnee and left on his quest of doing EVERYTHING on the floor! 8:35PM — Everyone in our party of 9 left because the wait was simply too long and ridiculous. My wife and I decided to say behind in the hopes that we might be happy to enjoy the food after a LONG… LONG… and VERYLONG wait… 9:15PM — I got up and went to the cash register and asked the guy for the status of our order… He said«Sir, it is almost ready…» 9:45PM — He brings Chicken Tikkah and Chickent Makhnee to our table! I asked him about Chicken Biryanee. He said«Oh…no sir, we are out of rice…» At this point, I lost it… I got so mad, annoyed and just simply could not believe my ears! He finally came up with a top quality act of heroism by telling us that the WAITING was for NOTHING! Yes, he actually said that! He actually told me after all these hours of waiting that the restaurant was out of rice! I got up and used a few colorful words and stormed out this lame excuse for a restaurant!(Hello, common sense called and was asking for THEGUY). During the WAIT: We saw our superhero, THEGUY, dipping his fingers in peoples food while carrying the dishes to the table. We saw him carrying stuff under his ARMPIT! We saw him sticking his hands inside the water cups! We saw the GUY taking DIRTYCASH from his take out customers and then run serve some guests and then run back and clean a PILEOFDISHES from the restaurant tables. We saw THEGUY carrying napkins to the BARE tables with THESAMEDIRTY hands! The Bottem Line: Please DONOT waste your time, money and beautiful moments of your life going to this DIRTYHOLE! THEGUY has no respect for people’s time and money! Period! THEGUYS does NOT know how to run a restaurant! The GUY must SHUT down his restaurant and RETIRE immediately! I hope my nightmare at this HELL look alike restaurant can save you TIME and MONEY!

Food was very healthy and none of the curries had a cream based sauce so nothing was greasy. The tandoor chicken, lamb vindaloo, tikki masala, rice, and naan were all very nice. The restaurant was clean and the service was fast. We will come back to eat here again.

My husband and I live in an area where Indian food is hard to come by, when we came to the Roseville area we had the opportunity to stop in and get Indian food for lunch. We had a party of three and none of us got the buffet, so I can’t comment on that. Each of us ordered something different off of the menu, lamb tikka, lamb vindaloo, and lamb korma with the Chef’s Bread Basket(plain, garlic, and onion naan) to share. The food was delicious and spiced to the liking of each of us. The chai tea was tasty from what I was told, and the mango lassi hit the spot to cool down my pregnancy hot flashes. The only complaint I heard from the table was the wait time, but the waiter apologized again and again, and honestly, for Indian food to be made to order, it’s only natural it would take a little while. I wish we lived closer so I could go back again! I would and did recommend to friends and family in the area.

I love this place. Top two samosa’s I have ever had and I have been to many indian restaurants around the country. Paneer has excellent fresh milk taste. I tried Aloo Paratha for the first time and it was wonderful. Lots of potato and green onion among other more subtle flavors in the stuffed naan. Their mint and tamarind chutneys that come to the table with every meal are excellent! I am picky about those. The mint has good heat and a thick texture. It’s not watery like a lot of places. The Roti(whole wheat naan) is perfect! Light, a little flaky and a little chewy, just like it should be. The Malai Kofta balls are filled with lots of flavor! Plenty of paneer and cashews. I am always greeted warmly by the staff and get great service. I appreciate the hospitality and love the people who work here along with the atmosphere. They have Indian music playing, beautiful paintings hanging and a large mural of the Taj Mahal. Hint: Order Chai tea and Gulab Jamun for dessert. The chai is unsweetened so sweeten it with half a spoonful of the syrup from the Gulab Jamun. Awesome!!!

Great Indian food is pretty scarce up in the foothills. We will work a trip to Taj into our day if we are coming down the mountain, or bring a to-go feast home if we have company staying with us. The Korma is great(and that’s important). I love the huge Indian artwork prints on the walls. .. even though it is in a strip mall, the big dash of the Raj at the Taj gives the place the right vibe.

Not the best Indian in the world but definitely the best in Roseville. We go here quite often and usually have pretty good luck. There is usually only one person waiting so if you’re in a hurry at dinner time, prepare yourself. The korma is my favorite, and the garlic naan is good too. I always ask for spicy(but it’s usually just medium plus). I’m not a fan of the buffet, but, I’m not fan of the buffet period. Anywhere.

I love Vegetarian Indian food. Not everyday, but every now and again gotta have it. Based upon reviews here and a drive by(oh there’s an Indian place) I decided to meet with some friends here. It’s a good location in Roseville. It’s always interesting to eat in a family run restaurant. They have a very extensive menu. It’s good food for the price too. They also have a buffet(even for dinner). The server was pleasant and attentive. It’s not a dress up type place. Casual attire. I think I was spoiled by my Indian establishment that is no longer in business, I am sorry to say. It’s worth a try here and you may enjoy it

I’m so F**in pissed right know. Just got back from the buffet, we got there at 2pm there was no food left over. And the dude asked me if the old sludgy tikka masala what ever they called is good? I said I could be better. So they brought out a cup of baby food size bowl with rice in it for my wife and I since they had no food left over. I had to scrape the white rice from the 2days old bucket. And got charged $ 24 something. I could of gone to habit burger and eat two fat burgers. So I hope the owner is not idiot to ignore people’s comments. Never coming back for sure, as much as I hate the indian oven down the street, rather go to them.

Excellent meal. I have no idea what it was but the flavor was phenomenal. It was a veritable dish in a cream sauce. I asked for spicy and it was perfect. The Naan bread was also perfect. I will definitely be back.
