This place is a classic burger dive. The patties are juicy and made fresh daily according to their menu. PROS Heavy comfort food Large variety of food including teriyaki chicken They have curry fries CONS Most the seating is outside so if it’s raining it might be difficult to find a seat

I was in the mood for a shake so I Unilocaled«milkshake» and was directed to Village Drive In. I asked for a large and what I got was a quart size cup of shake! Just what I wanted.

I’ve been coming to this place for at least 20 years now. It’s a staple to the Tahoe Park Neighborhood. What I love most about it, is the no frills food. Great burgers, great shakes, great customer service and its family friendly. Seating both inside and outside as well as a drive thru. The special #2 with a cherry lime ricky is one of my favorites. The chicken strips are perfect. The side orders(mushrooms, burritos, etc.) are great additions to any order and they all taste great. You can get an entire meal here for 10 bucks. They are always super fast and you can even call in your order ahead of time. Oh, the chocolate banana milkshakes are to die for!!! They use real banana in it. Their slush puppies are a must in summer. They have not disappointed me… ever!

Now I probably wouldn’t go out of my way to go to this place, but if you live in the Tahoe Park neighborhood chances are you go here at least once a month. This place is smack dab in the middle of a neighborhood so it’s not easy to get to if you don’t live in the Tahoe Park/Tallac Village area. It’s an old school drive in with old school burgers and fries. The burgers are handmade patties cooked on a flat top grill. So it’s definitely done the old school way which I appreciate but the buns they use are generic store bought and not wonderful. So overall the burgers are not terrible by any means but the craft burger game in Sacramento is serious so I’ve had absolutely amazing burgers and know what an amazing burger taste like and thus compare them to that. The fries are pretty good so I have no complaints there. During the summer time I definitely like to get a shake here because they have a variety of flavors, my favorite being cherry. And special bonus points to this place because they carry slush puppies which are pretty hard to find. You can get out of here spending less than ten dollars per person so they price is competitive. They have a drive thru but it’s not quick so I wouldn’t use it if there’s already another car in it. If you’re in the neighborhood It’s definitely worth trying this place out but I wouldn’t call it a destination spot by any means.

Ah the old style drive in or frostie as we used to call it. What used to be a staple in most small towns can still thankfully be found if you stop and take a closer look. We make it a point to try as many of these old school gems as possible, and Village had been on our list for a while to try. The burgers were well cooked and juicy, the pastrami sandwich(what we consider another staple of these establishments) was tender, lean and juicy. Service was prompt and friendly. You will see us again soon as there is more on the menu to try and review!

We eat here all the time. USUALLY we have good food and good service. HOWEVER this morning there was a problem. When trying to order chili fries, with the chili on the side, we were told that we would have to pay for a side of fries AND a side of chili if we wanted to order it that way. WHY would I have to pay for two sides, when I just wanted them plated separately? Seems like the village drive is just being a pain for no reason. It’s these small things that keep customers from returning. The village drive in might want to consider offering better customer service if they want to retain my business.

Pretty good. Wish it was better, as it’s in my ‘hood. Just… ok. Last time I went, burger was a tad over-cooked.

Best burger I have had in Sacramento. Ordered the Giant Double with cheese. It comes with lettuce, onions, tomatoes, i think homemade pickles and a homemade ‘dressing’. The burger patties are freshly ground angus beef, grilled to juicy perfection. Also ordered the chili cheese curly fries and a cherry slush puppy. Their slush puppies are non like the nasty ones you get at sonics, they are sweet with the perfect amount of ice. Curly fries were crunchy and seasoned topped with a generous amount of cheese and chili with chopped onions on top. If you want a REAL burger, i highly recommend this place. Only down side is they are closed on Sunday.

Convenient location for those in the Tallac/Tahoe Park neighborhood. They have all the classic items; burgers, fries, shakes. They even sell corn dogs, tacos, slushies, and other random items. Not a huge fan other than it’s close. I have only eaten their burger and fries. In my opinion they tend to be dry and flavorless. Nothing amazing. The«homemade» sauce is pretty good considering all things and is probably the hamburger’s saving grace. Everything is overpriced and the drive-thru is never quick. Even if you’re the only one in line. If there’s another car ahead of you then expect to wait a while. If you’re REALLY craving a burger and don’t care about quality try this place.

I love there shakes. Service is always friendly. Don’t expect speed. it’s definitely not fast food. They do have a wide variety of great food available from great burgers to teriyaki bowls. Everything is always cooked fresh to order. Definitely a hidden gem…

There are few places I will go out of my way for the way I will for this place. I live at least half an hour away from here, but will happily make the drive for some of the best shakes I have ever had!(Banana and root beer specifically) they have so many good flavors and the rest of the food on the menu that I have tried so far has been amazingly fresh and well made. I feel like I’m sitting down to a home cooked meal with their sandwiches and burgers. Their deep fried mushrooms are also incredibly addictive… But the staff is friendly and the food is fantastic for fairly reasonable prices. I will always love this spot and look forward to the great grub after a long drive!

I love this place! Been coming here for over 30 years. They have a great teriyaki chicken sandwich. I love the sauce they put on it. Their chili is really good too. Of course, you cannot come here without trying a cherry lime Ricky. It’s the best soda ever!

Was over in the area and saw this place had decent reviews so decided to have a quick dinner. It wasn’t busy and I took a minute to look at the menu asked a few questions, the fish and chips would have been my fist choice by they said it wasn’t beer battered but rather breaded and fried so I opted for a Avocado BLT and instead of fries I got a milkshake. The sandwich was good but the milkshake was mediocre at best not what I was hoping for from a frosty. Probably should have gotten the fries they are easier to get right. Anyway I’m not sure I would go back since there are so many other options around in the area but I got outside my area and tried something different so that was good.

This review is solemnly on the Grilled cheese, which was amazing! And on top of all that their service was on point! The only reason I would of given it a 4⁄5 was because of the bread choice. I was only able to have the grilled cheese on white bread(would of prefer sourdough or wheat).

Originally came here for ice cream but had some food and it was pretty good. I had an avocado BLT, very good. Burgers were good, shakes very good and thick. I like that they have outdoor seating, good for summer evenings but probably not summer days. People that own this place are very friendly as well. First time here since moving to Tahoe Park, will definitely come back.

Ok, so I haven’t eaten here but a friend of mine has gotten me addicted to the Cherry Lime Rickey’s. Dang they’re good! My husband and his friend had the burgers and said they were good(I’m a vegetarian, so I’ll have to take their word on that one). I just enjoy swinging by randomly for a Cherry Lime Rickey on my way home :) instant happy, especially on a hot day!

This place is tops. Pure aces. I took a drive through the neighborhood to while away an evening, basking the glory of the architecture and the stars and the crisp night air and suddenly I see this glorious Drive In — a beautiful thing from another era. It is what is says on the sign — a Drive In.(Not sure if there’s a village nearby. Does Tahoe Park count as a village? It’s quaint in that way, I suppose!!!) A true old-timey building with a kitchen, and some seats indoors and out, but that only kind of scratches the surface of the absolute totality of the pure perfection that is this place. Savor it, Sacramento. You don’t get rewarded with the presence of this sort of awesomeness very often. It’s not just that this place is a beautiful thing out of time — it’s actually good, too! The menu is full of awesome. You expect a place like this to have burgers and dogs and fries, and yes, of course, yes they have it, yes, sure, yes, but also so much more. They have sandwiches(pastrami!), and teriyaki and fish and chips and shakes and… like… they have such a diverse menu that for the first time in a long time, I was stumped at the menu. I’m a look-at-it-once and make-an-instant-decision type of guy, but I stared at the bounty of items for a good couple of minutes, stumped. So many awesome options. It blew my mind. My friend and I ordered bacon cheeseburgers. Seemed too obvious, but at the same time, perfect for the setting. And perfect they were. To be clear and fair, the meat wasn’t crazy tender, or even much more than a thin slight patty, but it was seasoned with something — I couldn’t quite put my finger on what the taste was, but it gave the meat an extra kick and made it really come to a new level of awesomeness. And the bacon. I have to admit that I’m not as much of a bacon fanatic as everyone. I like it ok. Frankly, I prefer sausage, but I get that it’s a meme and some sort of cultural touchstone, but all in all, I could take or leave it. And a lot of that probably comes from there being so much bad bacon out there. But this. This bacon. This stuff right here? Seriously. No joke. This is DAMNFINEBACON. Thick and rich and flavorful and savory. This was — look — things happen in life that cause you stop and you have to shake loose the cobwebs and you have to take stock of your life and chowin’ down on this bacon was one of those moments. This wasn’t the flavorless paper-thin garbage that get’s tossed around as bacon so often. This was the real deal. And it was insane. Like jibber jabberingly so. Like Classy Mr T would point a finger at it and say«Cease thine jibber-jabber, imbecile!» It was that good. The burgers look big, but I’d say that about 50% of that was onions, tomato, etc. So depending on if you’re a glass half empty or full type of soul, you can either call that filler, or a huge delicious portion of vegetables to go with your burger. The burgers that we got came with fries and they’re pretty standard thick cut fries, meaty with potato goodness and just salty enough to make you glad to be alive. My friend ordered a shake — a thick(and according to her, delicious) chocolate banana shake. She said it was really solid. We sat indoors — there are a total of four tables in the tiny indoors area — all are green linoleum mid-century tables bolted to the wall, with beautiful green chairs to go with them. The décor just absolutely knocked me out. Amazing. Perfect for the theme of the place. The outdoors had a couple of tables with umbrellas to try to provide some slight respite from the hellish fiery heat that rains down on the region for half the year. All in all, this place — this place right here — this is what it’s all about. You want a decent casual night out? Check this place out. You want to sit down with a pastrami sandwich and work a tome for a while? This place. You want to relax and listen to some jams on your iPod while enjoying a shake? This place. This place right here. This is where it’s at. Right here.

I’ve been here many times since my first visit. It’s right down the street so what else do you want me to do?! This is everything from a grab-a-shake-after-a-BBQ place to an I’m-too-lazy-to-make-dinner place. The shakes are to die for. Seriously. Cliché or not. They’re amazing. I love to get the fries and dip them in the shake. I actually had that(yes, just that) for dinner last night, I will not lie. Another discovery? SLUSHPUPPIES. Win all around. Come here and get fat with me.
