The food was great but I’m giving this 3 stars because the service was not good at all. Waitress did not seem patient at all, was very eager to take our order. She would drop off our food without saying anything. My miso soup had a piece of a sweet & low packet in it… I thought at least a manager would come to our table and apologize or offer at least our dessert on the house. But nope. They leave the sushi out at the bar for too long. I watched plates sit at the bar for 10 – 15 min before it was brought out to tables. Long story short… food is great, service is not. Order to-go!

As a rule I always visit a sushi restaurant alone before bringing a date or friends. So I recently went to Kumori on my day off, I was able to go when they weren’t that busy. I tried a variety of sushi, I got unagi nigiri, a Philadelphia roll, and the Maui Wowie Roll. The quality of the fish was great. It tasted really fresh. The Unagi was cooked perfectly, the tuna on the Maui Wowie was perfection. The prices are more than fair for the quality and location. The only hang up I had that makes me question wether or not I’d come back was the service. I had a waitress who seemed very eager to take my order she came and asked if I was ready to order 3 times before I actually was. Oddly when I was ready I had to wait about 5 minutes for her to come back. After I ordered I didn’t see my waitress again until I was almost done. Another gentleman ran my food, and refilled my drink. It seemed like I was a problem for my waitress because when she did come to refill my drink it was so quick she left before I could say thank you. I was not presented a check my waitress just took my card and ran it. Food was great, nice atmosphere, probably caught my waitress on a bad day. Still getting 4 stars because based on other reviews I know the service is usually pretty good/

I LOVE this place! I’ve been going for years now. Before they opened in San Antonio, the restaurant started in McAllen Texas. They never fail. Sushi is amazing and even anything on the menu is good! The restaurant it’s self is nice and has a great atmosphere. Bar area also :) I’ve been here for dates, lunch break and even for my birthday dinner. It’s great for any occasion. I will say this tho… the location on Culebra just opened not so long ago and I’m not entirely happy with their service and food. Make sure you visit the Sonterra location. The Culebra location just needs more practice.

As far as sushi goes in San Antonio, this is one of the best places to get great service and great sushi. The bartenders are great and easy going. The food is fresh and the ambiance is classy and quaint.

I must tell you… I don’t like sushi and after trying the restaurant I still don’t! But I chose something other than sushi… orange salmon miso… omg so good! My boyfriend raved about the sushi so I assume as a sushi place it was good… but for me I will definitely be back for things other than sushi.

This is a new find. Wanted to eat Japanese so tried this place out. Service was great and attentive and the food delicious. Really enjoyed dinner here. The place is very clean and beautiful. If you are in the Stone Oak area it is a must try. Everything ordered was good. Very impressed. Having owned 2 Japanese restaurants in my prior life in California I appreciated the freshness and quality of the fish used. This is my new favorite place to eat.

I come here purely for the Bonsai rolls and vegetable udon noodles. I haven’t found anywhere else that has bonsai rolls which is tempura broccoli cauliflower wrapped in rice. The reason I give 4 stars is because the service is ridiculously slow after you get seated. I’ve had to wait for my bill several times when I’ve been obviously finished with my food. I wish I could say it’s because they’re busy but when I go they are not. I don’t understand the slowness. As a result of this, I just get it to go now.

Delicious Picasso roll with a side serving of amazing fried rice. I are at the bar at lunch and it was great. If you’re in a rush get it to go. Service was decent, food was great, and the ambiance was relaxing. I will be back.

The sushi and service here rocks. I’ve tried a few different types of rolls and haven’t been disappointed once. If you love sushi as much as I do, you’ll be a fan too. I’d eat here every day of my girlfriend didn’t get tired of sushi!

I’ve been to Kumori quite a few times as I used to live right around the corner… it just gets better and better! Complimentary miso soup is really good and service has always been great. The Omega Roll is my absolute favorite!

Had the angel roll which was pretty good. Although out of about 8 pieces, only 4 were topped with salmon and the other 4 were topped with only avocado… uncool. I love my salmon. Tried my a piece of my friend’s roll which I liked even more than the Angel roll. We can’t remember what it was called but it had sweet and sour sauce and peanuts on top which added an interesting flavor.

YUM! I love me some Kumori! Went to Kumori for the first time on lunch this week. It was fantastic. Tried two roles and the spicy edamame(sooooo good). The restaurant was quite for a Friday lunch hour, the roles were very large for the price and the fish was extremely fresh. Two roles for two people(and one of us was pregnant) and we were stuffed for hours. You HAVE to try Kumori if you haven’t yet! You will love their sushi.

New to San Antonio and was recommended to come here. My waiter, Brandon, gave me beyond excellent service! My food was excellent and very fresh. My only issue was that I had to move away from the bar because they seem to have a terrible gnat problem. Came back a second time and the gnats were gone so I’m glad they fix the problem. Beware, the menu is HUGE. Too many choices to be honest, so I always ask the waiter or waitress for recommendations.

This is the second time I’ve been to this restaurant. It was very good the first time… but, I couldn’t remember the name to write a review… so I thought I’d try it again. Fortunately, I was able to recall what streets I might have driven on and while navigating I spotted Kumori. This looked like the place. I pulled in for a late lunch. As I walked up the sign in the window said«A new style of Japanese Restaurant» I was pretty sure this was it… so when I walked in and saw the the bar with the big screen TV’s to my left and dining to my right… I knew this was the place. The appetizers looked great and sometimes… I feel like a variety instead of one big roll of sushi. I ordered: Jalapeño Firecracker… amazing it was a fresh tempura fried jalapeño stuffed with crab and cream cheese. It had a spicy mayonnaise with soy sauce drizzled on the top. Black Tiger Prawns … soooo good tempura style with a sweet/spicy mayo, green onions and togarashi pepper. Kumori Ceviche … fresh fish with cucumber and avocado, romaine on the side … I prefer a spicier sauces and this was a little too sweet for me and the cucumber wasn’t completely shredded. Shrimp Cocktail… grilled shichimi seasoned shrimp, served with mango habanero sauce. It was good. Soft Shell Crab… deep fried in a light corn starch served with ponzu sauce. Hey half of my review disappeared… Oh well, I’ll finish it later! LOL .

Pretty darn good sushi. I’d go as far as to say that it was surprisingly good. For some reason, I wasn’t expecting much when I came here with a co-worker, but the first time through, the meal was good. I went for a pair of pretty basic sushi rolls, and I was rushed so I didn’t really have a chance to sit and analyze the food. But it seemed good! Next time through, I went for a meal where I could take a breather and really enjoy my food. And I did! I went for a lunch combo with several pieces of nigiri and a roll. It’s usually a pretty good indicator of the quality of a place when the nigiri is tasty, and that was the case here. I WOULD like to see some more basic rolls on the menu, though. I couldn’t find any basic stand-by like a kappa maki or oshinko maki, which I like to use for an indicator on how fresh their veggies are(plus, they’re delicious and healthy) but what they did have was pretty good. So, yes, though they could stand to expand the menu a bit, what they do have was very good. I’ll gladly check it out again.

Been here on a few occasions… the food is always fresh which is a big plus when there is fish/seafood involved. The rolls are great, chicken teriyaki was average… not quite enough sauce, but the chicken was chunks of white meat… thumbs up. The tempura shrimp/vegetables…very good, albeit a tad on the greasy side. The lack of 5 stars is due to an extremely rude server. One night the waitress was on her A game… super friendly and offered suggestions/explanations. The next time in the afternoon, the waiter was obnoxious, condescending and virtually non-existent. He corrected my SIL on the pronunciation of an item, but it turned out he had misheard her and when corrected was downright rude. Correct us, shame on us… correct you, shame on us… again? Yeah, no.

Food: their sashimi was good. Average– size portions. My hubby liked his rib-eye teppanyaki. Place: modern décor, nice ambiance and clean. Not too noisy despite the busy atmosphere on a Thursday evening . Customer service: friendly service. Our waiter was very good and very accommodating with my food requests. Checked on us several times. Don’t know if it was because we were seated at the bar which is very convenient. Note: initially didn’t plan to come here because of the reviews. But, see for yourself. I will be coming back.
