Joe’s Excellent Chinese

I usually get delivery from them and they have yet to let me down. The food is alot better than I expected and it’s been good enough to keep me coming back. I mean, if I was expecting taste bud exploding food I wouldn’t be ordering delivery. I recommend at least trying them out if you’re too lazy to leave the house.

Now undergoing renovation. Taking take-​out and delivery orders only. Will resume table service in approximately 2 weeks per staff.

Ordered delivery and it came within 30 minutes. Angel wings were crispy and covered in a flavorful sauce– definitely recommended. However, the green onion pancakes came cold, soggy, and bland. Other than that, food is considered fairly decent.

VERY RUDE MANAGER! Received a flyer for 10 $ minimum for free delivery & he insisted it was 15 $ and there’s nothing he could do about it and he said the flyer was a lie. Was yelling on the phone then hung up. Very unprofessional as a manager his name is Jack! Never ever going to this place.

They had HAIR in my Noodles!!! Heres a picture for Proof!!! I called and argued over the phone for 20 min to get them to replace it, then they tried to say i was lying and its my hair, need i remind you i have very short hair. after arguing for an additional 15 min they replaced it with cold old tasting disgusting noodles. i lost my apatite. tasted like it came from a sweat shop

i keep coming back to Joe’s — it’s the ONLY chinese restaurant I keep finding myself coming back to.
–PEKING BEEF (sweet sauce with sesame seeds lathered over beef),
–WALNUT PRAWNS (which is not too sweet nor oily and they stuff your box with the prawns and for dessert, there’s a single layer of sweetened nuts on the box’s bottom),
— JOE’S ANGEL WINGS (which they STUFF the whole box with)
and their FREE FRIED RICE (or chow mein) (which you need to mention along with their minimum $ order) and you can’t go wrong. A couple of WATERMELON JUICE drinks is not too sweet and is pretty refreshing as an accompaniment to your food
stay away from their clams in black bean sauce. I thought the clams would not have their shells but they were complete in their shells in a soup broth and there weren’t enough clams for the $ 12 price and it was spicy hot.
Their lamb with onions is tender and tasty but you don’t really get much.
Another dish to stay away from: Beef with black mushrooms and Bamboo Shoots — the sauce tastes so yucky fishy. Oh well, that’s what happens when you experiment and walk off the usual beaten track.
Another dish to stay away from: Orange Chicken — It’s so EXTREMELY sweet… Panda Express and Emmy’s do a better job at making it.
i’ve never had any problems but lately, delivery has been slow, slower than their usual 45 minutes. You might want to order early when not too many people order if you want delivery fast.

I wish I could give this place ZERO stars. I have never given a Unilocal review before but I had to this evening because I am so pissed with the service and quality of my order.
I am not picky at all but I ordered chicken chow mein and shrimp fried rice from here through grubhub. It wasn’t delivered within the allotted 1 hour time frame. IN FACT, it came 45 minutes later. When I FINALLY got my food I was stoked to dive into the chow mein, my favorite dish in the world.
I swear on my firstborn child, this chow mein was the most disgusting shit I have ever tasted in my life. And it had such a funky scent, too. Why is this place called «Joe’s Excellent Chinese Cuisine»?!?
Their chow mein tasted like musty, unwashed, stale dick. I wouldn’t be surprised if the delivery person decided to stuff his genitalia in my food before giving it to me! It was just disgusting.
ALSO, he was SO rude. He was like «I was late because you didn’t answer the phone.»
Uh? What? My cell was by my side the entire time with the ringer on and I never got a call once. You were late because you were busy being gross with my food!
In all seriousness, I really recommend your take your money elsewhere.
The shrimp fried rice was ok but I was so put off by the chow mein I couldn’t even enjoy it.
AND they have the cheapest fortune cookies ever. Like who cheaps out on fortune cookies?!?
P.S: Little piece of advice for Joe’s Excellent Chinese Cuisine, I recommend you order chicken chow mein from Crazy Pepper on San Jose Avenue and then eat it and try to replicate their recipe. Maybe it will save your business. Hopefully. On the bright side, you were so awful that there is nowhere to go but up.

Ordered crab rangoon, crispy noodles with beef and tomato, and fried oysters. They were all tasty. Btw I decided to make this a delivery order as I live about 1 mile away. They followed my instructions well including bringing sweet and sour sauce and soy sauce. The delivery guy seemed cool. He called me when he arrived and asked for me to open the property gate as instructed. The whole bill was $ 24.95, and they had this sweet deal for a free fried rice with delivery orders over $ 20. All the food was good. I’m happy with the speed of service as I got it less than an hour of my order. Guy was nice and food was what I wanted. I think I would get delivery from this restaurant sometime

The one redeeming quality of this place is that the delivery arrived early. I ordered the Crispy Fried Garlic Chicken and the Pork Fried Chow Mein. I didn’t realize that Crispy Fried meant jerky, though, as the skin was so tough in places that I mistook it for bone when I bit into it. The actual bones were charred black and split open. So this chicken was way overdone. The Chow Mein was so greasy that I couldn’t taste anything but the oil. Even the pork just tasted like oil. I was so grossed out by the chicken, and the chow mein made me even queasier that I barely ate ¼ of the food. The real kicker was their customer service. When I called to complain about the absolutely inedible food, they refused to give me even a partial refund. Never again

I order for delivery here. The portions are reasonable and so as the prices. They do deliver 45min-​1hour, so if you’re hungry better place an order ahead of time. They can be busy around 4−7pm I guess. Overall experience– Okay

And they have fried bananas. I had this HUGE jones for fried bananas on Friday but couldn’t find any anyplace by work (and all of Chinatown is right there) so I resisted all of yesterday but have now given in to the craving because it will not go away. I couldn’t just order friend bananas so now we’ll have enough food for dinner tonight and I can take some leftovers to work for lunch tomorrow. It’s not even close to the best Chinese food I’ve ever had but it’d ok, they deliver, more and more Chineses eateries seem to be going out of business (younger generation does not want to take over the business). Should have order kung pao chicken again but I forgot (bananas on the brain). There’s always next time.

First time eating this food. just because my favorite Chinese restaurant is undergoing construction.. This place keeps sending flyers to my door, no wonder! I’m sure they are looking for new customers.. The food is very horrible.. The broccoli beef was so chewy, and the chow mein noodles taste like they were stale. The won ton soup was really salty and the meat inside the won ton had a funny smell to it. like a chemical smell, actually all the meat dishes had a funny smell to it! ;0(we spent over $ 40 and ended up throwing it away! NEVER AGAIN! They also over charged on the bill 6 bucks in taxes I don’t think so!!!

I just received my delivered order of seafood chow fun and It might as well have been chow fun period. There was all but 2 pieces of shrimp and the noodles were clumpy and stuck together, had an un fresh flavor. Absolutely unacceptable! I finish eating the chow fun and then go for one the fortune cookies they packed and all three were completely stale. I have ordered from Joes quite a few times and the cookies have ALWAYS been stale but the food was always pretty good. This time both were bad! Disappointed.

There is nothing excellent about this place. I frequent this place enough to know that it’s OK for the price that I’m paying. The vortex of lies has been there for as long as I can remember. The moment you walk into this place the flies are in are all up in your face. the best thing for you to do is just walk through the vortex of lies and find your way to a seat far away from the front entrance or get order your food to go. I periodically will get the lunch special to God just because it’s quick and it’s cheap. I think I was actually going this place higher than what I gave it if they can just get rid of these flies I learned disgusting excuse of a fish tank. I swear the fish in the fish tank don’t even move. I think they’ve been the same fish and I saw 3 years ago. the thing that makes this place so terrible is the fact that the upkeep is just some par. If they can just add some more decoration to the place and put on a new slab of paint and maybe put in some better carpet then possibly update that green fish tank that look like death mixed in with a bottle of scope and put in some actual exotic fish I think this place really do very well. But aside from all that this place is ok. definitely stop by during lunch time because that’s when the prices are fairly reasonable. Anytime after that you’re paying an arm and a leg to get your basic dishes. and by the way you have to ask for rice is a separate addition to your meal if you’re not already ordering around lunch time, lame.

Food is ok, takes a shit load of time and when you call them they don’t give a crap and they just tell you to cancel the order but that’s just stupid I already waited an hour.
Not gonna order from you, you lost my business.

I ordered from here and it took an HOUR AND 30 minutes for my food arrive for an estimated 45 min. I called multiple times asking and the employee just kept telling me «the driver is around the corner and will be there soon», as if I’m an idiot.
Then to top it all off, the driver apologized and gave us two GrubHub coupons both for 5 $ off the next order, which was great until we realized the coupons are only for first time diners so we can’t use the damn coupons! Wtf was the point of giving them!!!
The food was cold and didn’t taste good after our ordeal. I would much rather order from Henry’s Hunan Restaurant

I happened upon this place by chance of a bug preventing me from ordering elsewhere, and I warn that one cannot un-​read these reviews, which may have partially tainted my experience.
They arrived 15 minutes earlier than estimated, a nice bonus. The portions are reasonable, and the food is decent for what you’d expect from a late night Chinese delivery. Unlike a previous reviewer, they called me upon arrival as requested.
All in all, it was a positive experience, minus the somewhat traumatizing one star reviews on here. The one stars freaked me out so much that I probably won’t order again, but Joe’s did deliver on what was expected, so I must give them credit where credit is due.

Well. We got 2 of the 5 things we ordered, the rest was obviously someone else’s order that got replaced with ours. So there’s that.
The food we did get was pretty mediocre. The chicken was flavorless and beef was soggy. I never wanted to give a one star review but this place really earned it.

if you’re looking for cheap and above average Chinese food then I suggest you come here. Located on the further side of Ocean Avenue, Joe’s Excellent Chinese food restaurant has always been a constant reminder that you don’t have to go deep into the city to find quality Chinese food.
First tip to know when ordering is, When you purchase food over $ 20, then you’re given you’re choice of a free entrée based on two options. This is done as a way to bring in customers with cheap food and plenty of interesting bonuses. Those options are their vegetable chow mein or their egg fried rice. I personally always get the egg fried rice. Just know that you just remember to mention the coupon upon you’re ordering of you’re food. If not then chances are they won’t honor it. They usually quote 45 minutes to an hour for delivery but depending on where you live it can come a lot faster.
Now I will save this based on the other reviews it’s true about the interior of the restaurant. It’s very poorly cleaned and maintained. If a health inspector visited this place they would fail badly. There’s filthy fish tanks in the front is discouraging. Then you walk further in and there’s flys everywhere with food and used cooking oil all over the floor. The walls look like a dilapidated rundown old building. The carpets are sticky, dirty and greasy. But with all that being said for some reason there food always comes out decent and filling. At first I refuse to eat from this place when I finally went into the Resturant to pick up an order. I found it disgusting and horrible and a shame to eat at a place like this. but I found that their quality and they’re cheap prices made an impact on my decision. Also began considering foods in other cities or even in other countries, that you find a lot of the hole in the wall places that don’t look appealing. Can and tend to produce some of the best tasting food. I’m not saying this location is on that level but for my needs it matches up well.
So I learned to just stay away and order the food for delivery. I can only hope that the way they treat or handle their food, is a lot better than the way that they keep their restaurant clean.
